I Illustrated These 24 Women Of Different Body Types As Powerful Warriors
1Mviews
I wanted to depict strong women warriors who do not necessarily look like the typical warrior. With different sizes, ages, and body types, each one feels like she has a rich backstory and history.
You can find all my warrior women in a high-res, free-to-download PDF in the link below.

YES! A dinosaur! I have this picture book when I was little called 'Dinotopia' and I just adored that book, medieval cities with dinosaurs in it :^D Thank you for getting me to remember it~
I want to know her story. Why does she have a duck? Why does the duck have a fabulous victorian updo?
This is my favorite. A woman with this build is only ever portrayed as the bad guy, if she's seen at all. However, I know several lovely women of the same shape IRL, just as varied as the whole of your series. Beautiful job!
The bad guy, or the comic relief. It's one of Hollywood's cemented-on stereotypes, and it's tiresome :(
Load More Replies...She is the beserker. The shock troops. The ones you use when you are in the big battle. Not a spy or someone who can sneak around. Elegant, deadly and unbeatable. Then she will cook you the most delicious meal.
This is an only realistic big woman here, she cloud be a really good fighter in history, she looks like she has a lot of muscle under the fat. A lot of types of combat uses weight as a benefit.
She looks like she's dangerous with that axe too! :D
Load More Replies...She looks extremely powerful, but yet very calm. No doubt she is strong, but gentle.
Wow, she is STRONG! That is a build with real power in it. You can't swing an axe effectively if you are all wasp-waisted. Powerful and perfectly balanced; nobody is getting past her.
Love this portrayal. Being this body shape myself its normally vilified. I and so many people I know are warriors, if only people knew our stories they would see this picture!!
that is an Afghan Hound, one of the oldest dog breeds around! They are big, skinny, hypoallergenic dogs! First breed in cold mountains of Afghanistan.
Hyperlordosis: an exaggerated inward curve of the lumbar spine. It can cause discomfort but not usually pain. Speaking from experience of having this condition.
This looks *exactly* like a judgmental Renaissance painting. I love it!
Now this is something different than the usual reimaginations and recreations. It's also pretty cool too and well made. Beautiful and not so pretentious.

Anytime Godababe....hey wait a minute. Is this not for real?
I love these. I can envision myself and all women as warriors. We are. We fight battles everyday.
thank you for saying that!! <3
Thank you it's good to hear comments like this :)
That's nice of you to say that.

Quite aptly helped by gender quotas, alimony and welfare, all paid mostly by men. But yeah, fantasy is free.

I thoroughly enjoyed all of these bad-ass women warriors. They all look like characters that I would love to read about in a fantasy novel or play in a video games. Wonderful knowledge of clothing and weaponry!
Thats exactly what I think. I would even wear the clothes :-))) Thank yo very much for your wonderful work!!!
I love the energy of the one with the goose
One of the characters in a game I'm playing was a goose farmer, I have sent this picture to her, I think she'll love it. Thanks and great work.

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this. I am older, and not thin. But sometimes I try to tell myself I am a warrior to encourage myself to work out or try harder or focus on goals. This speaks to me so much. Thank you! ❤️

This wasn't about different shapes. It was about different sizes. Almost all were still about women having waists small compared to hips and having bums. This was actually harder on my self-esteem than porn, since this was supposed to be about women of different shapes and my shape wasn't represented. How do women not see this and compliment this post? (Not all women are shaped like hourglasses.)
When does the comic come out...I'd love to follow these women into battle!

Cuck.
He is not weak just for wanting to follow these women into battle.
I love that each one of them looks like she's stepped out of her own epic story. They have such different looks and personalities, but they're all ready for adventure!
These are beautiful!
So lovely!
can u add more body type, the ones who has bigger upper body? I know some woman who has big bust/chest/wide shoulder but smaller hips n legs
Yes! Agreed! These almost all had the same Hollywood body type of tiny waist and big hips and butt, just that some were bigger. That's not a different body type, just different body size - still with the proportions of a porn star.
These are lovely. :-) Thank you for your wonderful work. Maybe some day you can do an apple body shape? Like . . .thin arms, inconveniently large chest that kind of blends into no waistline to speak of, no butt, narrow hips, and skinny legs? Not that I'm speaking as a stare at a mirror. *cough, cough* Just, you know, suggesting a body shape I didn't see there. :-D Unless your series that you linked to has shapes. I guess I should go check that out before commenting like some kind of jerk.

Absolutely amazing. Plan to show to my Girl Scout troop. We are working on a project to instill body confidence and recently discussed the medias portrayal of what is beautiful and in reality how beauty is very diverse. All these women are so unique and beautiful. I love how these images depict the warriar in ALL women!

I love this idea, but was a bit sad to not identify with any of the body type portrayed. I see a lot of hips and thighs going on, but not any Apple shapes...

Exactly. This was more insulting to me in that they thought they were covering different body types, but didn't cover most anything other than hourglass. It was really the same ol' same ol', just that some women were bigger.
It’s a nice idea, but one thing I don’t understand is that most of the plus sized models are skinnier at the waist. Like much skinnier.
I agree too.
C lol
Completely agree. It's really not that different from saying all women have to be thin to ever get married and have good sex - now it's just that you have to have to be shaped like an hourglass or you are a birth defect.
I would love to know the stories behind these warrior women! Each one is unique and well drawn :)
The overall concept and art style are enough to make this into a new story with its own universe.

Finally, some original designs and not just another Disney princess rehash!
¡Amazing character design! I would love to see them all starring an epic animated movie. It would be A W E S O M E!
i honestly love this it is showing that everyone is different and special in their own ways!
Nope, didn't show that. Other than two posts, it showed that all women with hourglass shapes are beautiful, regardless of size. All the women with other shapes should go hide under a rock and resign themselves to being lonely and unsexed all their lives - as per the OP.
Who else just upvoted all of these?
Great artwork, and some very well thought-out designs. But 'different body types' is a bit of a stretch; half or more of these are variations on 'thicc', Not that that's a bad thing, and I don't mean to imply I don't like it. It's certainly better than anything I could do. Just my two cents.
Agreed. Most were just the standard hourglass shape most men love, just some were larger than others. That's not different body type - it's just a different body size.
I seriously adore this. Thank you so much for sharing!!!
These are all wonderful! They look like game designs for characters. The artist would also make a great clothes designer! Imagine dressing like warriors!

Too bad the OP didn't draw anything other than the standard hourglass shape!
All of these are FIERCE!!!!!!!!!
I love the ones with the furry friends by their side!
Well, as a petite, mesomorph with narrow hips and muscular thighs, my body type was not represented. Clearly there is a bias for large, protruding buttocks and thunder thighs as a body preference by the artist.

I especially like the attention to detail in the clothing, equipment and weapons, something that's pretty rare in fantasy art. For example, notice the waist mounted quivers rather than the more prevalent back mounted ones. I also like that a few of these women are left-handed. I think Yael Nathan is an amazing artist and have been following her for a while now, so no surprise that these are also very very good. Also, she made the whole series available as a PDF, here: https://gumroad.com/l/ynwarriors
Such a good eye and very good points!
Love these!!! Absolutely true.
I wish they all had animal sidekicks. :)
Ooohh, yes, that would be even better! :-)

Love these! They remind me very much of the Dragon Prince animation. I'd love to see some Gnome/Short-person versions of these, since I tend to play a gnome/short person in a lot of my games <3
These were all very well done and portrayed many body shapes, races, skin tones, and attitudes. This was an enjoyable article.
Nope, did not cover many different body shapes. Almost all were the typical hourglass shape - just showed different sizes. Those of us with non-typical body shapes can't even be represented in a post like this. I guess we are just birth defects.
I can see all of these characters in an adventure movie. Like Atlantis: The Lost Empire, but with all realist and relatable women. SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE THIS
The art is so good. T_T Goals.
These are amazing. Love them all...especially the lady with the dog. I want to know more about her. You did an amazing design job. Usually when folks do these types of things - like reimgaining of costumes - to be less sexy - they also mean less flattering and less cool looking. They think folks are supposed to like them just because they are PC....and not well designed. You hit the nail right on the head. They just have a lot of heart that went into the design and look cool. I want to read about them now and follow their journey's. I cannot say how amazing these characters look and the style..impeccable. :)

Just tell me - why is no one of them, not a single one, carrying a shield? Are they suicidal? Don't they expect their enemies to strike back?
Nah, they know they're so powerful they won't need one
As far as I can tell none of them are in battle, they are at rest maybe at home in their villages or out walking in the forest, or on the way home from a hunt, so why complicate things with shields, usually reserved for battle or defence?
It's just typical female hubris.
All these women are gorgeous (except for the child)! Thank you for sharing your amazing artwork.

I shared here "the whisle of my freedom" , no whisle, just the sound of a 9 section whip chain. No one is willing to approach that, master it and you don't need pepper spray, it's light, discreet, and if someone stole it, he will kill himself before touching you, it's not a knife, or worst a gun. I'm in love of that tiny thing. It's tiny, can't be used against you, you can use it even if the "dangerous people" use it. A woman in need should master it, nobody is doing you nothing with that and skills. I like the sound of it, even in training, like a whisle, and i know that i can kill someone over a mistake too, i'm not going to do that. I never used it. I know that i can use it, if someone or myself is in danger, i never had to use it. i'm really glad.
My only criticism is that all but one large woman has a tiny waist. That's rare and makes a big difference. As one with no waist, trust me, I know.
So drawing women as overweight, muscular, manly and angry looking equates to "powerful warrior"? I'm not seeing it. I consider a powerful warrior as someone who is strong mentally and emotionally. Someone who can teach someone to deal with the world they live in. Good and bad. Continue to grow to be a better person for yourself, which in turn will show to others.
These illustrations made my mom a fan of the artist and a brand new Bored Panda! She fascinated by the artist and loves the body positive message!
I love these! They look like so much more complex characters than the usual sexualized female characters.

Amazaing art work, i love your art style. I love how you have represented so many different kinds of women as warriors.
How did this get over 300 upvotes when it proves itself wrong - it's not different body shapes. It's almost all hourglass shape.
There are two basic body types for women: 1) Those who have waists and 2) those who don't. There were only two of these with women who might be said to not have a waist (and one was just very thin). So, once again, thank you to the OP for making me feel so deformed that I don't even qualify to be included in the all-the-different-body-types post. This wasn't different body types for the most part. It was just different weights.
#14 is an apple shape no waist, #17 is pear shaped no waist and #24 is pear shaped with waist. #20 has no waist #1 has no waist sort or boxy shaped, and some of the others have not much waist, some are really chubby with small waist, they are all different, it is not possible to represent every body type with 24 illustrations. I feel the artist has doen very well.
I looked at those a second time because of your comment, but all those women has a smaller waist. I'm hourglass shape, but my mother is apple shape. If I gain weight I still have a waist, my mother does not. Women like that were not represented. Some women don't have a shape represented as feminine in mainstream media. There were also no triangle women. (Broad shoulders, straight waist that goes down into narrow hips.) It's a fun post, but not representative of all body shapes.
Great warriors. They need their own graphic novel series!
