Digesting huge amounts of information on topics like health and diet, however, can be tricky. Luckily, Dr. Hunter Finn is willing to help. The Texas-based veterinarian regularly posts useful tips on TikTok where he tackles some of the most common issues.

Dr. Finn started thinking of becoming a veterinarian at an incredibly young age. Eventually, he turned what was just a dream into a reality when he graduated from one of the country’s top veterinarian programs at Louisiana State University. His journey, however, was not as easy as it sounds.
During the clinical portion of vet school, Dr. Finn was diagnosed with malignant melanoma. He had to undergo surgery to remove cancer on his back as well as a few lymph nodes to be sure it had not spread. Dr. Finn then worked with a nutritionist to get his physical health back and finish school. He now practices in Arlington and is a perfect example of a young medical professional who is using social media to his advantage.

“It still blows my mind that I can reach more pet owners through one social media post than I can during my busiest day at the hospital,” Dr. Finn told Bored Panda.
His posts range from light-hearted jokes about nail trims and client overshares to life-saving information on treats. Dr. Finn chooses the topics that he as a vet is asked to explain on a daily basis. “There are many people in the world that love their animals more than anything but can’t always afford [to see the vet] when they have questions. To me, if my post helps one single family then that post was worth all the time and effort I put into it.”

According to the veterinarian, health care starts with knowledge and how to prevent certain issues from hopefully ever arising. So in a perfect world, he would only see animals for healthy vet checkups although that is sadly rarely the case.

Dr. Finn has three fur children of his own. “Asher [is the one] you have surely seen on most of my social media pages, [he] is very similar to me, an extroverted introvert who loves to explore the outdoors, but also doesn’t mind downtime sitting on the porch watching the world go by.”
“The second one is Sadie, my geriatric black Labrador who has been in my life for the past 3 years after my uncle sadly passed away. She is your typical Labrador that lives for mealtime and although she can’t move around like she used to, she loves to lay in the yard and catch some sun rays.”
Rugby is my newest addition to the family; he is still adapting to his new home. “I acquired him when my grandparents passed away and he has never been in a home with other dogs so we had to overcome his shy side at first. Now he lets me know when it’s time to play fetch with the other dogs or when it’s time to go for our daily walks around the neighborhood.”

So... meat is full of water, what's new? Also, the example of salmon, sweet potatoes and pumpkin, all of the three are full of water, they all get dried and still would be the first ingredients in weight,, so, what's the point he was trying to make? Even if it was wet food, is he suggesting to buy meat and making it yourself then? Cos that's the alternative (which some do that)
I agree. And the fillers would be starch related and they would have water too.... so the meat is still the 1st ingredient.

Anyone who uses "absolutely" as a means to prove a point is in fact proving how uneducated they actually are. Absolutes don't apply in day-to-day life...and certainly not in this dude's vet office. You forgot to finish Grade 9 buddy.
We make our own dog food. The recipe was from a vet who preferred made food over purchased. We started doing this because one of our dogs was allergic to wheat and lamb. Seriously as in scratch all night and stink even after bathing. We switched from regular food to lamb and rice. But the lamb made her stink. And we discovered that the pet food industry is not as tightly regulated as people food. They can change the ingredients and it may be 6 months before they change the labeling. And no, our recipe is not just raw meat. As I said, a vet helped us with the recipe. It is too long to list here, but all of the food in it is standard people food from a grocery store. No issues ever since, and if a dog has allergies or special dietary requirements, it is easy to adjust.
Just wondering about recommendations for a homemade dogfood. My potty has terrible yeast infections, and I fear it is her food. She is on Apoquel, twice daily, but it is very expensive. Do you have an alternative, or any suggestions? Please help me!
Very good info and I love the post, but honestly, I can't take you too serious since you say dogs/cats teeth have to be brushed daily It's been proven to be harmful in humans, it's a human invention and our pets do not need it (given that they have a proper diet and enough chew toys) Keeping teeth clean and healthy is a good thing. Brushing your dogs/cats teeth on a daily basis is not. There is not a single animal in the world, except for humans, that uses a toothbrush, nor do they need to (again, if provided with a proper diet) If a pet has terrible breath it's most likely due to a bad diet and/or disease Most (if not all) dental problems in pets stem from a bad/wrong diet for a long time Please stop advertizing this, there is no need and it actually damages their teeth
In what world are people not supposed to brush their teeth every day? And yes, literally every vet I've heard of or been to has said we're supposed to clean our dogs teeth daily
