Vegan Asks People To Try Hunting Animals And Eating Them Raw In Order To See How Unnatural It Is For Humans, Gets Roasted Badly
You would be hard pressed to go on social media without seeing a celebrity or influencer pushing an extreme diet trend. On one side of the spectrum, you have vegan promoters while all the way on the other you have others spreading a meat-centric gospel of the paleo or keto diets. So with so many options out there what do you choose? According to one vegan internet user the least ‘natural’ choice for humans – meat.
With an extremely graphic photo, they tried to argue that ‘catching prey’ and eating it was not as natural as a vegan lifestyle and got shut down by a commenter happy to give them a quick lesson in the evolution of our diets.
One response to the photo stood out in particular. Linden Lonsdale explained that meat had been a necessary evolution of our ancestors that provided them with the caloric content needed for advanced brain development, and the lesson didn’t stop there.
According to scientists today this commenter has a point. We wouldn’t be what we are today without meat to a degree, however, as evolutionary creatures our stomachs have changed alongside us. Meat from a health standpoint is rich in both protein and vitamin B-12 and is also a good source of iron, however, these days it is much easier to come by these supplements in other foods such as nuts, beans, and grain to name a few. According to Dr. William Kormos, editor in chief of Harvard Men’s Health Watch, “As for how much meat consumption is ‘safe,’ many studies show a small rise in the risk of disease at levels of 50–100 grams (1.8–3.5 ounces) of red meat consumed daily.”
People in the comments sided with Lonsdale and added some hilarious commentary of their own
If you talk to any nutritionist about which diet is better, not only is there not a one size fits all – you will hear the word balance. “Approximately six to eight million adults in the United States eat no meat, fish, or poultry,” according to a Harris Interactive poll commissioned by the Vegetarian Resource Group, a nonprofit organization that disseminates information about vegetarianism. There is a combination of reasons people are flocking towards this lifestyle from animal issues to environmental ones. But if you are planning on becoming a vegan/vegetarian for better health it isn’t guaranteed. According to the American Dietetic Association, “appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases.” Research backs up that this lifestyle can be beneficial to your health but if it is not done with the proper nutritional planning not eating animals or animal products doesn’t necessarily mean you will be healthier.

Having said that I am AGAINST animal torture and breeding them in tiny cages just to be eaten. It's not worth of this humanity we are trying to achieve. There is too much of meat just thrown away (very very large amount) due to overproduction and torturing animals or any live being is NEVER OK. Hunting for meat, animal farms where they can at least live happily until the end is ok. Slaughter houses where they are tortured and dismembered are not. And I am not even a vegan.

Land, habitats etc is destroyed to make way for growing produce, to grow enough produce to feed the world you would need a lot of land especially because you can’t always plant the same seeds in the same plot the following season, the equipment to harvest the crops is destructive to the environments. Don’t get me on soy plantations coz they are extremely devastating to the environment. If everyone became vegan, Cows, pigs, sheep etc farmed to be consumed will end up being killed anyway or released in the wild which will cause wide spread devastation. Especially with hooved animals. And some people literally cannot live in a vegan diet and need animal protein.

Load More Replies...I never understand vegans (and meat-eaters) that focus on what our ancestors supposedly ate, on which animals you can compare our bodies too. Does it matter? We already know from research that a well-planned vegan diet can be healthy and safe, for people of all ages, that's all we need to know. And we know that an omnivore diet with meat in moderation (much less than what a lot of people eat) is safe too, so why does the whole ancestor thing even matter?
Why don’t you try eating a raw eggplant or potato? Some vegetarians and vegans have the need to shove their opinions in meat eaters’ faces whether they want to hear it or not. My guess would be, they are trying to justify their lifestyle, because deep down they know something is not right.
Jace When a meat eater "shoves" their opinion is a vegan's face, 99.9% of the time, the vegan started it. Vegans are the ones who will go to a steakhouse and demand a vegan meal while at the same time they would be aghast if a meat-eater demanded a steak at a vegetarian restaurant.
Load More Replies...This is such a dumb argument. There is nothing 'natural' about our lifestlye, today. If you eat meat, you need to face the fact that your foodchoice causes terrible harm to animals and the planet. that is all there is to it and I'm writing this as an omnivore. There are excellent reasons for going vegan - being 'more natural' definitely isn't one of them!
By the way, for all the people hardcore downvoting anybody defending veganism, please actually state what your problem is with their specific comments instead of just downvoting but not being able to back it up with anything other than a personal insult.

I find titles and stories like this completely unnecessary, and potentially harmful. People have different views and opinions, but using words like "roasts", "destroys" etc. are just simply not helping anyone. It's like what happened was some sort of battle, instead of a discussion.
So BP is anti-antivaxxer, and anti vegan. We get it. We don't need both of these things constantly thrown at us week after week.
A lot of things humans do aren't "natural". Like making food choices based on ethics.
The only reason we do is because our brains evolved to the point (or were created to be advanced) that we’re just absolutely ridiculous! Otherwise we’d gladly hack a deer into pieces.
Load More Replies...Plenty of plants are poisonous, so be careful when you hunt your veggies in their natural habitat. Also, the most natural protein for people to eat is probably insects. They are plentiful and easy to hunt. Just turn over a rock. What's really sick here is a group with one set of beliefs setting themselves up in judgement on those with a different set. Do you apply that to your religious beliefs as well? It's all about freedom of choice.
You mean if they only would tell people why they do so if asked and then get yelled at? That would be great!
Load More Replies...I really don't understand why many vegans are like this and why they are so unconsiderate. Many times when I am invited to a vegan's party, there are no meat dishes. But when myself, arrange a party, there will be vegans so I make food for them. I call that being a good host and respecting my friends. I simply cannot understand why many vegans are so naive, ego centric and bossy. They push their diets on everybody else, even calling people who choose meat, bad things. It's good if they have found their diet of life, but they must remember everyone is different. Which they can't since they lack nutrients or something, I don't know why they are like that.
This is a bit more complicated. I know it will always LOOK like it is asymmetrical, but that has a reason - a vegan usually is one because he/she's convinced that it is right. It would be a dilemma if being a good host would require offering meat, because, regardless of how others see it, providing the meat industry with money WILL make a vegan feel guilty, and this certainly not without reason. But it does not push any diet to anyone, it is just about ONE day or ONE meal - if that's too much and there's not enough understanding in why demanding meat will put a vegan in a position of only bad choices, while no omnivore would have to do something similar to offer a vegan option, it's better not to attend. I can't understand why people think so, maybe they've got mad cow disease or something...

In modern times that developed industries are existing and are able to export and import everything everywhere, hunting became unnecessary (and with that meateating as well). However being vegan requires a more awareness based thinking and a lot of self-education since it doesn't mean you will eat everything you used to when you ate meat but without meat. You will have to search for new protein high alternatives and recipes you didn't know or didn't use that much before and go the extra mile to buy all the stuff you need in this meat centric world of stores. So at the moment it is not for everyone due to lack of basic education and accessability. All the vegans I know has a higher than average IQ or EQ, or just wannabe posers (like that influencer girl).

Well, Various Cancers are very natural, seeing as everything from Bananas to The Planet Itself is radioactive.

I personally have been a devout meat lover all my life until I witnessed cattle and pigs being taken to slaughter. It was life changing. I do miss meat sometimes, but not most of the time. My REAL problem with being a vegetarian is that I HATE vegetables!
I'm a vegetarian. I didn't like this post and those hateful comments, because it was disrespectful and it spreads hatred toward veganism. I understand why people hate us so much. No one should force their beliefs on someone else. One thing i want to add here is that if our ancestors didn't eat meat they wouldn't reproduce like crazy and overpopulate the earth. it would be more natural if most humans died of hunger. Why do we make everything about ourselves and why do we think earth and it's creatures are there only for us to consume. The focus should not be on what's natural and what's not. There are millions of cows and other creatures suffering and the meat and dairy industry don't want you to see that. No one can witness what happens to those creatures and how they live their lives. This whole thread is just a bait for more viewers. Funny how we are here to kill each other because of one stupid post. Well done bored panda!
Lab grown meat is coming, and then you vegans can all just get off your high horse and eat a f*****g steak.
It's not about a high horse to say you wish people didn't cruelly raise, then kill animals for no reason other than "I feel like eating it". I'm super curious though about how vegans will view lab meat once it's commercially viable because there's zero cruelty involved, especially if the original blood was drawn for the purposes of veterinary care.

I eat raw fish a lot. Eaten raw beef a well. Not sure I want to catch it with my hands since I'm a human with intelligence that can use tools and also cook my food for higher nutritional value and safety. Lots of animals use tools, so tools are natural. By your definition please harvest your own veggie without tractors, harvestors or any other equipment. Use your hands to dig potatoes from the ground, no shovels. Also, God forbid if you cook your rice or pasta before you eat it. Just chew on your indigestible starch and die of malnutrition. Don't even think about bread or any processed stuff cause that's unnatural as hell. Also please eat the whole tree when you eat an apple okay?
I actually like raw meat, not even mentioning.... sushi? (it could contain not only fish but flesh too)
The person who commented that our brains developed eating meat is wrong - caloric intake is from carbs and the latest study shows plant based foods brought us this far. meat was eaten when plants were not available. The only "fuel" the brain uses is glucose - something that you don't get from eating animals.
I would like to read that scientific report, link please. And by the way, google Ketogenesis.

There are good arguments on both sides, but it's silly to deny what sort of animal a human being is, which is an omnivore. Plants are alive as animals are alive. Haveing a lack of "feelings" doesnt make a plant any less alive, yet they are killed and eaten just like anything else. Let's all just eat and be happy that we can and do.
I'm a vegetarian and i wonder where this hatred of veganism comes from? If our ancestors didn't eat meat maybe the earth wouldn't overpopulate like crazy and other creatures would live in peace. Is it natural to have this much of humans on earth? If we are going to talk about well being of earth and being"natural" on the bigger scale, We are not natural at all. we should definitley think about what we eat, where it comes from and the damage it causes to earth and It's other creatures. Why do we make everything about ourselves. It's funny you talk about the graphic content in that picture. You should consider visiting a slaughterhous and see for yourself which is more graphic, human life style or this picture?
The funny thing is...if people decided to make certain vegans happy & stop eating cows, then cows would multiply. But cows are strictly herbivores & get "mad cow disease" if fed meat protein. There'd be so many cows that they'd eat all the vegetables. Whatcha gonna do then, huh...? Just mass-execute millions of innocent cows because they're vegan...?
1)We have 4 Canine teeth that are pointed and the rest are different,We have them so that we can bite and chew meat properly. 2)A vegan diet won't provide the sufficient daily requirement of Proteins compared to Meats. 3)Vegetables don't help in maintaining normal body temperature,as a result one is more prone to feeling cold easily. 4)Eating only veggies will lead to ecological imbalance at it is cutting down forests to expand agriculture.
it's actually better if we lower the population from nearly 8 billion people. besides insects, what other animal has this many in it's species living?? Be fruitful and multiply was meant for when their were only 8 people
Humans are Omnivore to begin with, therefore it is totally nature for us to consume meat. I don't understand vegan logic sometimes.
The commenter above who ate raw deer is putting themselves and their family at great risk of catching HEV Hepatitis E, Chronic wasting disease, various parasites some of which will migrate to your organs such as the liver, brain and lungs and more. If ancient humans were smart enough to cook their meat, let's not demonstrate how dumb we are. Ask your doctor.

There is a reason we have sharper canines. Because people were capable of creating tools, those without sharp teeth and claws could survive. Because we learned to cook our meat, those incapable of eating it raw were able to continue living and breeding. True nature, if I’ve got my facts right (or maybe I don’t. Queue shrugging!)
What vegans don’t understand is that if the world did go vegan, then all the cows and chickens and pigs would be killed because no one would take care of them. Too expensive to keep as pets and can’t release them to the wild.

Do they not realize that the appendix was in fact a second stomach that could digest raw meat but over time as we became evolved we did not need it any more so at one time humans did indeed digest raw meat.
A downvote is exactly what it is meant to be on Bored Panda: A succinct negative review of a Comment. I personally don't have time to respond in length to everyone on these threads and you, Full Name, have no right to ask me to do so.

If you truly believed your last sentence you wouldn't have bothered to write that comment.

Load More Replies...Everybody is right and not right at the same time, because yes, hunting was needed for humans to survive in ancient times when there was nothing else to eat during winters but nuts that you collected which was obviously not enough.
I don't understand vegans. Animals eat other animals!!! It's natural for people to eat animals too. 😢 Sad yes, but it's the circle of life. I want to see people try to turn Lions into vegans! Least this isn't a soylent green article. Lol
How natural are arthritis, rheumatism, diabetes, clogged arteries - heart diseases, various cancers, and premature death??? The whole plant-based (Vegan) diet can prevent, reverse, or delay for decades those conditions even if you are genetically predisposed to them. Why do you think we have health and opioid crisis??? ...because people are eating too much vegetables???
Well, Various Cancers are very natural, seeing as everything from Bananas to The Planet Itself is radioactive.

It is also bad for the environment. I don't care if others eat meat, although I wish there was a way they could stand against factory farming and still eat the meat.

They do not posess the proper amount of knowledge and learning as a Dietician, who has to go to University for many years to obtain a Bachelor's degree in something that is a science. Vegan, vegetarian, non vegetarian... Whatever your choice everyone has their own logic and explanation... But sadly cruelty doesn't have any logic or explanation. I think more than just hammering veganism we should focus on sustainable and cruelty free eating. There are many many areas on this planet where veganism is just not possible... So focusing on sustainable and cruelty free eating wil be much more effective for all of us.

PS: Them big a*s pointy teeth we have on the upper level? They're called CANINES. For a reason.

Load More Replies...I love a good steak tare tare as much as veggies, but with the many things that already try to devide us, why let dietary choice be one of them?
Ask your doctor.
... and still a lie... If that's the biggest argument, which I wouldn't doubt for a second, it tells a lot about OTHER lifestyles.......

Sorry vegans there is a trend for raw meat eaters! I do not do so, but on keto. Nova did a article saying that veganism is not sustainable for every human! How is shipping exotic fruits across the ocean environmentally friendly. FYI, ships cause more environmental harm. Two, tilling the land, harvesting, poisoning animals and insects protecting the harvest. What animal waste is used as fertilizer?! Cows!!! So it is a dam lie to say veganism saves the earth! It causes pollution, kills a lot of animals of all kinds, and pollutes the earth!
Got to say, I'm a meat eater through and through but I tried steak tartare once and once was enough. Urgh. Rare meat I can handle. Raw meat - not so much

WE DONT HUNT ANIMALS WITH OUR F*****G BARE HANDS MATE BECAUSE WE ARE INTELLIGENT F*****G CREATURE AND WE HAVE INVENTED TOOLS FOR HUNTING F*****G DUMBASS IDIOTS
When the system fails and we are forced to cannabilise each other to survive I'll be eating the vegans first.
Cooking was responsible for allowing humans to develop large brains. The claim that meat is responsible is false propaganda pushed by people who like to eat meat. https://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/13/science/for-evolving-brains-a-paleo-diet-full-of-carbs.html
A better source don't agree with you: "The finding helps build the case that meat-eating helped the human lineage evolve large brains, scientists added.
Vegans understand that. Not that it’s fully true but it’s true in some senses. We just don’t care. What’s the purpose of having something to just torture it to death?

So the whole world turns vegan. The land all gets cleared to grow the vegetables naturally what happens to the animals when their habitat is gone so that we can feed the world on vegetables. The forests that will need to be cleared for the room. I have nothing against people choosing to eat what they want but don't try and push it on everyone else
Do they not realize that the appendix was in fact a second stomach that could digest raw meat but over time as we became evolved we did not need it any more so at one time humans did indeed digest raw meat. We do infact have knines and chomper teeth which were actually designed to eat both fruit, vegetables and meat which makes us omnivores.
actually gorillas and other apes have an appendix too, which they use to digest tree bark and small sticks. Humans don't eat that so we don't need it anymore. I'll probably get yelled at by some creationist a$$hat for saying this but I don't care.

Look at Glenn V on “Life Below Zero...”. He routinely eats raw fat and meat from the animals he kills.
I like meat - and I like to see the animals in the fields - if we all went vegetarian/vegan how many of these animals would still be around. They'd be restricted to zoos - and then what do we do for manure. In the UK we have much less factory farming of cows and I always buy organic meat, dairy and eggs - and wild fish. I got TB as a child from raw milk (I'd had the measles and it left me vulnerable). Also because I eat a mainly fatty diet I can go for several days without eating.

These kinds of vegans are only vegans while it's convenient for them. If they had to grow their own food instead of buying it from a grocery store, you can bet they would go back to eating meat.
