Boyfriend Comes Up With Genius Idea How To Sell Girlfriend’s 1996 Honda Accord, And Everyone Wants To Buy It Now
Selling a 21-year-old car is difficult, but you can tip the odds in your favor if you’re creative. Los Angeles-based writer and director Max Lanman has created a clever and funny commercial to market his fiancé’s 1996 Honda Accord, and it went viral, gaining more attention than a car like that could ever dream of.
Five days after the vehicle, nicknamed “Greenie” went on sale, the bidding had reached $150,000 and the video had reached about 4 million views. Then eBay closed the listing due to “unusual bidding activity,” according to the company’s comment to NBC Bay Area. “Apparently, someone in (eBay’s) fraud department, who was unaware of the ad and story behind it, could not believe that a 1996 Honda Accord was bidding for $150,000, and canceled the auction,” Lanman explained. He was told that eBay could not restore the initial auction, so the pair had to re-list it – which they did.
“This was definitely an unexpected turn, but we have faith that everything will work itself out. Overall, we’re just so grateful for all that has happened with the commercial and the story. It’s been truly amazing.”
The ’96 Honda has 141,095 miles on it, and The Kelley Blue Book value of the vehicle is $1,500. As of writing this article, the current bid for it is $5,600. Scroll down to check out the brilliant video that started this crazy story, and let us know what you think about it in the comments!

To help, her fiancé Max Lanman shot a brilliant commercial, and it went viral for all the right reasons
Unaware of the story behind it, eBay canceled the bidding after it reached $150,000, thinking it was a fraud

The internet loved this creative approach
How much would you pay for this precious car?
Creating a whole commercial just in order to help your girlfriend... What a devotion! I think that they would soon be married!
It says in the advertisement in fine print near the end that the girlfriend is now fiance :) :) :)
Load More Replies...I think ebay should be responsible for loss of income on canceled auction.... one would think that obtaining confirmation of fraud would be 1st step in the process of removing an auction 2nd would be contact the seller.. then removal.... EBay needs to pay.....
Great job eBay, no wonder its losing to Amazon and will continue losing
I'm surprised they reached $150K! Too bad they didn't get paid before EBay screwed up!!
They screwed up TWICE. They've canceled the auction two times. Disappointing...
Load More Replies...the second listing is also cancelled, it looks like ebay has an automated algorithm to kill suspicious listings and somebody forgot to turn it off for the second listing.
Load More Replies...Carrie Hollenbeck, if the cat accompanies the Honda Accord sale, I'll buy the car right now. PS. l dispense coffee. Thank you.
If this is true, E BAy needs to pony up $150,000 less the cost of the sale.
I can maybe understand eBay cancelling it once, but the second time?? Really? Why?
Ahh I need to do a commercial like this for my 1993 Honda delSol... at only 235,000 miles and lovingly for cared for by myself and 2 previous owners, with a removable targa top that stores nicely in the spacious trunk, while your hair wiping freely in the wind... smiles for miles! I love “Tut” and all he’s given to me...
So his brilliant add had some sucker bidding $150,000 and before he could close the deal some idiot at eBay blew it by cancelling the auction. Then eBay says “Oops, Sorry.” And allows him to repost the add but the craziness that is the internet had shifted and he can now only get a $5,000 bid? Time for a lawyer dude!
Pro(s) of this commercial: 1) Its lovely to see there are still naive people with the best interest of others in their hearts. 2) It encourages guys to do something good for their girls. Con(s) of this commercial: Not plural. There is only one con!
I'm jealous...a week ago I had to send my 1999 Honda Civic to the scrap yard, after the police told me I had 48 hours to do so....well the tape didn't hold the rust on the doors anymore and the ""floor"" of the car had a few holes....and the scrap yard gave me $180.00 for it......!!!!!!
Don't believe everything you see or hear on fb or here. I believe that this is a sneaky attempt to make this look like an innocent creation but it's really a creation made by a corporation. SAD!
The obscenity of desire. It gets created out of nothing, so long as it is another's.
Great job on the marketing. It just proves with the right wording and pictures you can sell ice water to an Eskimo. The phrase "more money than brains" come to mind.
Only 141K miles on a 21 year old car?? Mine's only 10 years old and has 205K! That in and of itself is amazing!
I have a 2001 Saturn and it only has 39,400 miles on it a d still going strong!
Load More Replies...Talking sincerely? I think the sale of this Honda was a big blow to advertising. In fact, Max Lanman just wanted to introduce his girlfriend to the world. Congratulations, Max! You got this! Hehehe... Max-Carrie...f724b2.jpg
