Beyoncé is overrated
Sometimes producers should have more credit than artists
Most mainstream musicians focus more on their theatrics and personas instead of music so a lot of it sounds the same and it’s bland
Instrumentals are heavily underrated
500 years of dominating the classical charts has already established that; can't see how that's flying in the face of public opinion.
Elton John doesn't get anywhere near the credit he deserves as an all time great. He should be discussed as a Top 5 solo career all time with only Elvis and MJ really being clear cut above him. But no one ever even brings him up in those discussions. I've never seen anyone able to write a coherent and borderline hit level song as quickly as Elton. Give him a sheet of words, they don't even have to be lyrics, and you'll have a hit in 5 minutes. If you don't believe me search "Elton John oven manual song" on YouTube.
Soundtracks from tv show, movies and videogames are as good if not better than original music.
Final Fantasy, Dishonored, Elder Scrolls, Bioshock, Dragon Age, D:BH, Shadow Warrior, Bastion (so incredible!), Brutal Legend, Yakuza... I could go on, but I would like to hear the video game OSTs others enjoy.
You can still be considered a fan if you’ve only listened to one song but still respect the band. It’s so frustrating seeing people call others fake fans for only knowing like 3 songs. It doesn’t matter as long as you enjoy the music
For the most part the past 2 decades have been more about the marketability and/or ability of a person to be controversial than actual musicianship and talent.
Every time somebody says that rock is dead I laugh really hard because I’ve heard it before... in 1978 from disco kids.
Gatekeeping is just as toxic in the music fan base culture as it is in any other fan base. I don’t need to know everything about someone to enjoy their music. Thanks, though.
People who only listen to one genre of music are suspect to me!
My 15yr old cousin filled her Blues & Jazz folder on her Ipod with rap music. Fooled us all lol
Blasting your music makes no sense to me. I hate loud music. Play it at a volume you can hear it at. That’s all you need. Your neighbors don’t need to hear what you’re listening to.
I'd like to know why, when people listen to eardrum bursting music in their cars, that they have the passenger window wound down as well (well, they do in SA). I don't want to listen to your crap music.
Only remedy is to install a 500 Watts amplifier in your car and blast them away with heavy metal.
Load More Replies...I dont agree, I love loud music, I love to submerge myself in the music so it drowns everything else out. It is my safe place and it is where i go to escape the world.
Yes, blaring your music is obnoxious. If you do this, no one thinks "Wow, what a great song!".....we think "Wow, what an inconsiderate a s s hole!"
sometimes its a way to let out your emotions, or drown out the other sounds of the world
Some artists need to be heard loud to appreciate them. The band Live is so much better loud
I want to feel that music, all over you, all over me.
Load More Replies...To paraphrase Mr. Rogers, you have a right to listen to your music and make noise but I also have a right to quiet. You can listen to your music without me hearing it. If you can't you need to see a doctor (not Mr Rogers).
True. I wonder how many of the people complaining about loud music in this thread have ever been to a gig or a concert. I only ask because most bands like to turn it up to 10 but some even turn it up to 11. So is it a NIMBY situation? Or worse, are they condemning something they have never even experienced? (It's also way better than listening to tinny 2nd hand tunes from someone's headphones)
Load More Replies...I don't always listen to Megadeth. But when I do, so do the neighbors...
that's true, i enjoy my music most when i listen it with my headphones on
I don't like it but I can put up with it if they're in their car. The one that drives me berserk is when they get out of their car to go inside a store and leave the music blasting. I guess we're supposed to be impressed with their playlist.
It's a cry for help. Possibly a kidnapping scenario. Regardless, it's in the same thing as lift kits, low riders, etc. (i.e.-"Please...tell me I matter!")
Load More Replies...While I do not enjoy trunk-rattling music at a stop light, or driving past my house in the middle of the night, I do enjoy some loud music. I have a standard-issue stereo in my car, that I like to play loud on the highway, but I try to be respectful. In my house I have a decent setup, with a couple tower speakers, a sub-woofer, and some remote speakers around the house, and when I'm home alone? I blast that thing. My house is far enough from the neighbors that I doubt it bothers them (never had any complaints), but I have seen people walking down the street out front, looking at the house like, "what the hell is going on in there?"
If I play loud music in my car its usually one of my favorite songs and I am drowning out my horrible voice while singing along. Otherwise if I am doing a deep clean in my house I will have the music up while the vodka is flowing, it keeps me in the rhythm of things. The volume of the music depends on the song that is playing.
I love listening to loud music, but i dont show it out to the public
Commonly when out in public, some car drives by blaring really loud dubstep with the windows rolled down. Drives me insane.
Ugh hate these people especially in their cars!!! They're obnoxious narcissists!
i think it depends on the mood. if i'm mad, i'm gonna listen to the Killers super loud. but most of the time i listen quietly
Dude, no! If I am in my car and one of my favorite songs comes on, there is no better thing than to turn it up to let everyone know about this dope song! In a subway or bus or on a beach, though, I absolutely agree. One song - I can understand. All the music? Please invest in earphones.
I hate that for the most part. But because of a close friend who suffers from PTSD and mental illness, I know now that the boom sounds helps calms him down.
I'm the opposite. Its why many people, like their dogs, are gun shy. Loud noise physically hurts and scares them. Its called hyperacusis and its one of the most common symptoms of PTSD (every case is different).
Load More Replies...Don't let them tell you that there's too much noise, they're too old to really understand-KISS
Some music begs to be played loudly. To do otherwise is to reduce your enjoyment. Some examples: Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries," Metallica's "Damage, Inc," The Foundations's "Build Me Up, Buttercup," FEAR's "I Don't Care About You," Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir," etc.
Listening to music in languages you don't understand is far more enjoyable than listening to music in languages you do because you get to enjoy the human presence without having to engage with their problems.
I prefer songs in my language so I can sing along to it, but if a song has a good beat, tempo etc then I don't care what language it's in.
That I never grew out of my edgy phase because I still enjoy punk and alt rock
I grew up in the 2000's so my go-to's are: Green Day, Rise Against, The Offspring, Fall Out Boy, Sum 41, Sick Puppies, Paramore, Thousand Foot Krutch, Tonight Alive, Avenged 7x, Red, and Evanescence. There's more but that's a good list. I also have expanded my tastes, but I will always love punk/rock
George Harrison was the best Beatle and had the best career after they broke up music wise.
Harrison continued to innovate with great lyrics and melody. This is the man who gave us "While my guitar gently weeps."
Eminem is very talented and I can appreciate that. However, to me he just sounds like a p!@#$d off chihuahua.
Mariah Carey is in fact a musical genius.
What I mean is that for a singer with that kind of voice to have written, co-arranged, and co-produced 95% of her own material is pretty incredible, especially when you take into consideration the way her vocals are layered, her knack for engineering her own vocal climaxes and the way she weaves in different flourishes in each register. Its like she’s paints a canvas with her voice. I simply don't hear as many artists fill an entire song with a range of vocalizations the way she does despite the trashy diva image which I suppose turns most people off.
Hamilton is so massively overrated it hurts
Hamilton is great, but this is true. people act like it's the greatest thing to ever grace the broadway stage, but in reality it's not. but it is very wonderful!
I'm so f!@#$%g tired of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They play on every radio station from classic rock to contemporary to weird alternative stations. I can't escape them, and all of their songs sound the same, and I've heard every one a thousand times, I'm just sick of them.
Kpop as a genre demands intense amounts of talent. You can watch one of their live performances and it would be clear. That being said, i despise the industry and how it treats its artists.
You don't need to be an amazing singer to be a worthwhile, talented artist. Taylor Swift can carry a tune but she isn't incredible, yet she really puts on a show and is a great songwriter. I don't really care if an artist autotunes or edits the sound of their voice, especially if it works with the song. Can't sing or play instruments but youve got Garageband and Autotune DOWN? Cool. You can still make good music in my eyes.
I never got the hype for 'Stairway to Heaven' being some all-time great song.
It's a good song but that's about as far as I'd go with it.
As with all Zeppelin songs, it's about all aspects of the composition, music vocal and lyrics. Part of you opinion may be the overplay. Try the song performed by Heart. Both Bonams and Paige are amazing. Sorry, have to agree to disagree.
Indie music nowadays has been relegated to Ukuleles, random timed beats and nasal voices
The first Limp Bizkit album wasn't bad. S#$t went downhill fairly quick after that.
Same goes for Kid Rock.
Huey Lewis and the News. Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
In '87, Huey released this; Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.
Jazz is s#$t. It's a group of alleged musicians playing different tunes at the same time. Jazz aficionados that try and claim there's some sort of genius to making a god awful racket talk more s#$%e than wine experts.
You have good jazz and bad jazz - bad jazz is bad, good jazz is good.
Music piracy made music better.
Money as a motivation to make music was basically removed from the equation. Nowadays, the people who make music do so mostly because they're artists. Loads of musicians these days are compelled to create to express themselves, because making music is in their soul, not to pander to an audience and make cash.
Obviously this doesn't apply to mainstream music. Luckily for all of us with Spotify, it's now super easy to ignore trashy mainstream nonsense, dig deep and find some real gems.
This one was written by a choosy beggar. Apparently singers should sing for exposure. For free.

Here is my very controversial and very unpopular music opinion. You're free to downvote me, but I warned you. Country Roads and Hotel California are so overplayed. Pretty much like All I Want for Christmas, but at least that one is only during Christmas time. There, I said it.
i like hotel california, but i agree. they are both overplayed way to much
Load More Replies...You want a real unpopular opinion: The Beatles were just another boy band
The Beatles were so groundbreaking in many ways. They were the first true rock *band.* Elvis, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, etc, were stars, of course, but the emphasis was on their voice, not the music. With the Beatles it was a collective effort that produced hundreds of great, original, catchy songs.
Load More Replies...Most of these are not unpopular to anyone who knows the basic things about music, though. Unpopular would be saying that David Gilmour ruined Pink Floyd, or that Wings is way more interesting as a band than The Beatles got to be. Or that ACDC died with Bon Scott and Brian Johnson's voice is fkcn annoying and a disgrace to the legacy of Scott. Unpopular is aknowledging Courtney Love is just as or maybe more talented than Kurt Cobain was; or that Kim Deal was the only talented musician of The Pixies. Or how The Clash sold out and became a pop band after the 70s... Or the fact that Amy Winehouse was just another junkie who could sing, though not as well as everyone likes to think. In that same genre, Beth Hart kicks the living shït out of her, as do many others.
Very true. Usually these "unpopular" opinions are a compilation of things you see on the Internet pretty frequently and most people seem to agree.
Load More Replies...my unpopular opinion is I hate rap music it is people talking very fast about inappropriate things while wearing pants halfway down their legs it is not enjoyable for me
omg, thank you. Why must so much of rap and hip hop be about sex, drugs, violence and such? I understand there's a genre of people who enjoy this and I don't have to listen to it if I don't want to, unless the person sitting at the red light next to me is blasting his music...but still, I just don't get it.
Load More Replies...*too underrated. Bastille should be capitalized.
Load More Replies...More unpopular than you think: Let people enjoy their music (as long as it doesn't, like, promote murder or they're little kids). I don't like kpop. Lots of people do. Metal/rock makes me feel like someone is sawing my head in two. A lot of people like those genres (and I might too, if it wasn't for my sensory issues). Music isn't automatically bad just because teenagers like it, and even if it DOES suck, what's the harm on letting them enjoy things?
Christmas music is the worst. Honestly, I hate it and it makes me want to listen to nails on a chalkboard FOR RELIEF. I have only ever liked God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, and I'm not even religious, it's just the least terrible one I've heard. Even then, I only like the slowed versions.
My favorite Christmas song is “Merry Christmas , I F****d Your Snowman.” (Yes, it’s a real song.) I prefer anti Christmas songs myself.
Load More Replies...I do like that more singers seem to sing in their natural accent now though, rather than just an American one.
Load More Replies...Dave Matthews Band is talented, but boring unless you see them in concert. Their studio albums put me to sleep.
I feel this. Like, I get why Nirvana (and Kurt Cobain) where a thing when it was new and yes, Kurt Cobain is a tragic story but the music sounds quite boring for me.
Load More Replies...My unpopular musical opinion is that people devote far too much time, energy and seriousness to their musical opinions. Music exists for us to enjoy, and if someone enjoys a particular song/artist, who are we to hate on it?
I think Adele may be a very nice woman. That being said, I don't like her music. Every song is I love you, we're breaking up, I'm sorry we broke up, I want you to come back etc.. it sounds a bit boring and the same over and over .
Not really unpopular but anyway: I miss the time where music videos where treated like little pieces of art. Nowadays I feel like a lot off people design them to press emotional buttons and to earn more money or they simply don't exist. Also: why has such a big part of Radio Songs to be about love? Like, I get that its a beautiful thing to weite about but there are sooo many other human emotions and stories who deserve to be told.
Unpopular Opinion (I think, please correct me if I'm wrong): David Bowie-inspired a LOT of artists, such as Annie Lennox, Supergrass, and others. Even some artists have Bowie influences in their songs. I personally LOVE David Bowie, and after listening to him for a long time, I can hear some songs that have gotten inspired by him.
How many hip hop/rap artists are able to play an instrument these days? Legit question. Not hating.
Hardly any. Technology has really ruined musicianship. Many rap artists use keyboards in the studio, but most can't really play. Maybe couple of chords - which they typically don't even know the name of. They mostly just press keys to make sounds or noises. Being a skilled, practiced musician is no longer required to record music today. You can even be a terrible singer - that can also be fixed with technology
Load More Replies...When it comes to music, or art in general actually, you must insist on selfishness. You don't write a song to make money, you write it to make you happy. And if it makes others happy? That's great. If it doesn't? Too bad. Apologize to no one! Being selfish isn't greedy. Greedy is commercializing music.
I really dislike Michael Jackson and all his music. His squealing annoys the hell out of me.
Some of these were amusing, I kinda wish there were some more specific unpopular opinions though. Mine would be that Country music doesn't quite exist as it once did. Not that I enjoy it, but the older generation of the genre had more sense of identity and as opposed to what we have now. Doesn't help my workplace has pop country and other crap pop on all the time.
Lynyrd Skynyrd worst song ever "Sweet Home Alabama and Free bird" sick of those songs. Some artist get into "fights" for publicity. I don't think Katy Perry and Taylor Swift ever hated each other. Because if they did they should have had a knock down drag out fight at least once it was all publicity never face to face so when they made nice everyone was like ahh and they both were laughing to the bank with all the downloads adding up. Country isn't about country life now they are all people that have never lived outside a city and can't make it in other genres. The new stuff can be summed up by this song Parked by the Lake. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_zS_uiPWxs
Here's the most unpopular opinion that'll get many people offended: 1)Liking metal or rock doesnt make you cool 2)Mocking/shaming people music taste isnt cool 3)Nirvana,the beatle, queen, metallica is extremly super fcking overrated 4)People who listen to metal or rock will bitch about everything 5)Theres a lotta satanic metal band in any metal genre so metal is somehow satanic 6)Country fans are the chillest music fans 7)A7x is metal (this comment is created by someone who listen to pop, metal, punk and rock music
If i hear "unpopular opinion",i know that most of it won't be unpopular
I have one, idk how unpopular this is but kids bop or pop or whatever it is ruins good songs
Opinions are like a-s-sholes: everyone's got one and they all stink!
Unpopular Opinion: Music doesn't need complicated chords, solos that push the instruments to their limits, or fancy timing to be "good". Some of the absolute best songs are just the I, IV, and V chords in 4/4. Engaging music is about sharing an emotion, not demonstrating that you're a virtuoso.
A lot.of these were very stupid. Mainstream artists are not as different as old school artists, only the industry is more competitive. Albums are arranged in an order for a reason. they are like an opera, they are supposed to tell a story.
having sex with someone of the same sex, that's gay. Anything else, NOPE!
As an ex-professional metal & blues musician, performing -whether with life-long friends or perfect strangers- is like speaking a language that only you understand. Kinda hard to explain, actually....
YEs, the worst thing about church imo. Actually the opera singer wannabe choir mistress too!
