Unknown Number Starts Sending This Guy Toad Pics Without Any Context, Hilarity Ensues

When your phone beeps and there’s a random number that wants to connect, you either go into fight or flight mode and block the person or go with the flow and see what happens. Sometimes it’s super annoying, rarely it’s exciting, and often it’s just plain freaky. Except when the random number starts sending you pictures of toads. “Why toads?” you ask.

Well, it seems like the Twitter user who became a target of a toad-obsessed number didn’t have a clue either. “Earlier this year a random number I don’t recognize started sending me pictures of toads,” he tweeted along with the hilarious gallery of screenshots.

From a red American toadlet to a European common spadefoot toad, it seems like whoever was sending these was really into the leathery amphibian creatures. The thread went viral, amassing 560.8K likes and 118.6K retweets, and people joined in to share their explanations in this bizarre and funny toad conspiracy.

Bored Panda reached out to the Twitter user @grain_death who became the target of a toad newsletter he didn’t sign up for. @grain_death told us that at first, he was like “‘oh, weird, ok’ and I didn’t think about it too much.”

He explained that the very first toad text he received is the first one in the screenshots that he posted on Twitter. “I’m used to silly things happening so I just went with it,” he said.

And here are the hilarious screenshots he posted

It turns out, @grain_death still has no idea why he’s been receiving the toad pictures. “They also don’t really seem to know who I am either. All we both need to know is we only talk about frogs and toads,” he explained.

He also said that he’s never been genuinely annoyed by these texts and assured us that his weird “toad pal is the best.”

Incredibly, the toad newsletter still texts him once a week, “so it never really gets old.” If @grain_death had to guess why whoever is sending the toad pictures has been doing so consistently, he’d say “they enjoy this as much as I do.”

“If I was the kind of person to send pictures to random numbers, I’d enjoy it if someone responded positively and consistently,” he concluded.

People on Twitter loved it so much they even said they’d be up for the toad feed too

I suggest that if you know somebody who is going through a hard time, and you don't have their number, get it anonymously and send them inspirational quotes, memes, etc. I love doing this because it just makes people happy!

I love recordings of the banjo frogs and other fauna at Pobblebonk dam in Australia. I find them very soothing.
