This is a good idea for people with limited rooms but the kids need their own space.

I can spend thousands of dollars on a bed like this for my cats, and I bet they will still prefer the box that will come in.

To people complaining about a "waste" of a tree - you surely don't mind the WOODEN FLOOR, do you?

You do realize a normal reception desk would have probably required more trees to be cut because of cutting scrap?

Even though some countries still do major harm by clearcutting forests, silviculture is science of growing and harvesting wood in economically, ecologically and socially sustainable ways. This is a nice picture how sawmills actually cut the logs so every part can be used for different kinds of planks and nothing goes to waste. Especially people living in areas that don't have lot of forests aren't always very familiar with how we get and use our natural resources, but everybody can educate themselves.

This is gorgeous! Looks like a Douglas Fir tree trunk too! Very apt considering the name of the hotel!

I wonder how much that cost They must have used lucite slats in between to hold it in place and allow the light to shine through. Very cool.

If I’d have to guess probably at least $10,000 if it done by an artist. That’s a huge table with a lot of glass/plexiglass around it.

Beautiful, and saving on wood overall. Must be a pain to clean though.

The log is encased in glass so it won't get dirty. And glass cleaner is really not much work on or off. I can't see clean up being such an issue at all.

It's incredibly unlikely a tree was cut down with the sole purpose of making this desk.

Isn't this how a tree is cut? like after being chopped down? It looks very interesting...

Not usually. Most lumber is plain-sawn (they simply slice the tree into slabs lengthwise. This tree has been quarter-sawn, which makes for stronger and more attractive lumber. It is usually reserved for fancy furniture or flooring.

Feels like a waste of a tree/log. And to also encase in glass. 🤦

It looks awesome, but I can't help thinking about the tree that obviously was very old, and cut down just to become a reception desk... And hopefully other furniture to, so the rest of the tree wasn't wasted.

Maybe it was blown down in a storm? Not necessarily been cut down just for a desk.....

Two small children on a massive swinging bed right next to a rail-less porch and a 20' drop. Perfect equation for a disaster to happen.

I saw his work in a museum where two benches on two different floors were connected as though the wood grew and transformed into the benches. The piece was a perfect fit in the museum. We were allowed to sit on them, too.
