We usually expect things to go the worst possible way—whether it’s failing that crucial exam you need to get into uni, or getting painfully rejected by your best friend who you’ve been in love with since childhood. There’s something liberating about expecting the most dreadful scenario, but nothing feels better than when it turns out the opposite.
Luckily, the internet is a magical place and there’s a little corner for everything: the bad and the impossibly good. Like this community on Reddit, r/UnexpectedlyWholesome, which has been sharing incidents and cases that took a U-turn for the wholesome for the past three years since its launch on February 19, 2017.
From a boyfriend praying on Twitter for his girlfriend’s period to come today, to a landlord who said no pets allowed in the property, some things are made to have exceptions and the most wholesome outcomes. No spoilers, but who doesn’t love happily-ever-after endings?

Wholesome 100
It feels like we’re living in a drought of good news. The past year hasn’t been an easy one and the general emotional state of people around the globe is not the best one. And how could it be otherwise with what we’ve all been dealing with lately?
But it turns out that feel-good news like this wholesome post can bring much-needed health benefits, especially in times of crisis. One study from Brigham Young University proved that sharing positive experiences, events, and stories has immense perks. The researchers invited participants to keep a journal of grateful experiences over four weeks, and share them with a partner twice a week. Those partners who received good news reported being in a better mood overall.

That is so sad that no one would give him the time and patience he needed. So glad he eventually found someone to talk to.

Moreover, reading bad news is able to stir up the hormones and spark the neurotransmitters that alter our mood. In the same way, exposing ourselves to positive information has a calming effect. According to the positivity advocate and writer Celia Abernethy, human-interest stories not only make us feel happier, they also increase trust and hope in humankind. “Stories about improved living and health conditions are uplifting and encouraging.”
Stories with happy endings, wholesome twists, and wonderful people assure readers that whatever happens, we will be fine because the world is full of great human beings. This hopeful thinking is what we critically need these days.

An Unexpected Friendship
I don’t understand that logic, since when can you only call your friends by their first name. I understand there is an etiquette when it comes to teachers, elders and royalty etc but not every Tom, D**k or Harry.
Goby Saves The Day
Instead of placing garbage cans around this beach, the city made a giant see-through fish out of some barbed wire and meshm and added a sign that says "Goby loves plastic, please feed him". Kids love feeding Goby, who is usually full by the end of the day, and taken away by the city.

I just have a little something in my eye. (Tears. It's tears.)
Load More Replies...Opportunity was fantastic. And yes, NASA workers are sentimental, anthropomorphizing fools!
Don't be sad, Pandas. When we get to Mars, we can pick up Oppy and recharge the battery.
Thanks for sharing this story.. It is inspirational on several levels!!!
What an amazing song with an amazing history... "I'll Be Seeing You" music by Sammy Fain and lyrics by Irving Kahal. The earliest recording of the song was by D**k Todd in 1940 on the Bluebird label. The recording by Bing Crosby became a hit in 1944, reaching number one for the week of July 1. Frank Sinatra's version with Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra from 1940 charted in 1944 and peaked at No. 4. A recording by the Poni-Tails reached number 87 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week ending November 16, 1959.
I made it worse by playing the I'll be seeing you song. Darn leaky eyes!
This totally didn't mamke me cry. It's the onions. Those gosh dang onions *sobs*
N-NO IM NOT CRYING I-IM JUST CUTTI- CUTTING ONIONS *genuine sobbing
It's amazing to think that out there in the vastness of space a random Earthican love song played. 💜💜💜
What a new attitude to have toward NASA people - but so deeply understood. Think about all the inanimate objects we're sentimental toward.
And how I feel about classic cars, homes, buildings. Classic as in before 1977
Ripped me up especially because a lot of my friends call me....
I find this disturbing. I remember seeing a post from a parent asking if she should teach her daughter to say please and thank you to Siria (sp?) I'm a software developer. I love technology. I am also ware that things are real and things are different from one another. I also love anthropology. If we start being empathetic with software that is utterly unaware, we are actually causing harm, imo. We are trying to be empathetic for empathy's sake to feel good about ourselves. And that is actually the opposite of true empathy.
We named our son Rover in honor of Opportunity! He was born 2 months after Oppy's mission ended <3
Ohhh that’s so sad :( I hope one day they find Oppy and wake her up again ❤️
Unfortunately that's not possible. Battery temperature is critical to system operation. A Martian day isn't long enough for the solar panels to generate enough electricity to warm the batteries up from the ambient temperature to the point where they will be able to charge, and get enough charge into them to keep themselves warm through the Martian night. That's the great tragedy in this. The really sad part is the charging circuity probably still works and tries every day, but just can't do it.

So much oohs, aahs and awws and I absolutely loved it. This post has made my day and I certainly needed this. Thank you 😊
I read through all of them. This so wholesome, that’s a guarantee. ☺️
Since we are telling wholesome stories, I got one: One day, heavy wind knocked a tree branch onto my apartment sidewalk. When I came home expecting to have to walk around it, it was gone. Turns out the short and small elderly lady who lives next door to me moved it all by herself. I plan to do something special for 🎄 for her for doing that.
I love it when neighbours connect :) I used to move a lot and never really knew my neighbours, but I've been in one house since my kid was born, and I've gotten to know my neighbours on either side: we can natter for hours, I come and fix technology things or do computer help, and they can watch my son on the odd occasion I need to pop out to get groceries and my kid is in bed etc. It is nice :)
Load More Replies...My wholesome story: The summer before I went to college, I worked in the same manufacturing plant as my dad. One of the fork truck drivers, Rodney, was a big guy. Six foot six, 270+ pounds. Rodney had a tendency to get angry and yell. What did he tell about so much? He was angry that he was moved to second shift and he couldn't be home with his son in the evenings. His son was 14, had downs syndrome, and Rodney wanted to teach him how to swim.
