We usually expect things to go the worst possible way—whether it’s failing that crucial exam you need to get into uni, or getting painfully rejected by your best friend who you’ve been in love with since childhood. There’s something liberating about expecting the most dreadful scenario, but nothing feels better than when it turns out the opposite.

Luckily, the internet is a magical place and there’s a little corner for everything: the bad and the impossibly good. Like this community on Reddit, r/UnexpectedlyWholesome, which has been sharing incidents and cases that took a U-turn for the wholesome for the past three years since its launch on February 19, 2017.

From a boyfriend praying on Twitter for his girlfriend’s period to come today, to a landlord who said no pets allowed in the property, some things are made to have exceptions and the most wholesome outcomes. No spoilers, but who doesn’t love happily-ever-after endings?

Thank you for giving your cat another chance. She is a dear friend, and part of the family as well. It was the best decision you could have made. She was not ready to leave you.

It feels like we’re living in a drought of good news. The past year hasn’t been an easy one and the general emotional state of people around the globe is not the best one. And how could it be otherwise with what we’ve all been dealing with lately?

But it turns out that feel-good news like this wholesome post can bring much-needed health benefits, especially in times of crisis. One study from Brigham Young University proved that sharing positive experiences, events, and stories has immense perks. The researchers invited participants to keep a journal of grateful experiences over four weeks, and share them with a partner twice a week. Those partners who received good news reported being in a better mood overall.

That is so sad that no one would give him the time and patience he needed. So glad he eventually found someone to talk to.

That is such a sweet story. And, your maternal grandfather seems like the coolest guy. Many people would have looked down on someone who was a sanitation engineer. I respect people who make an honest living.

Moreover, reading bad news is able to stir up the hormones and spark the neurotransmitters that alter our mood. In the same way, exposing ourselves to positive information has a calming effect. According to the positivity advocate and writer Celia Abernethy, human-interest stories not only make us feel happier, they also increase trust and hope in humankind. “Stories about improved living and health conditions are uplifting and encouraging.”

Stories with happy endings, wholesome twists, and wonderful people assure readers that whatever happens, we will be fine because the world is full of great human beings. This hopeful thinking is what we critically need these days.

I don’t understand that logic, since when can you only call your friends by their first name. I understand there is an etiquette when it comes to teachers, elders and royalty etc but not every Tom, D**k or Harry.

Back in '92, I had an English teacher who chided a student for reading Stephen King. He asked her, "Have YOU read anything by Stephen King?". She admitted she hadn't, and he challenged her to put up or shut up. She later told my class, "So, I read The Dead Zone and it's absolutely one of the best books I've ever read.".

In Israel we are super informal. we call school/university teachers, bosses, lawyers, even clients by their first name. probably the only exception where we are more formal is with doctors, where we do call them "Doctor [LastName]"

If I had done this and it was Stephen King instead and he actually responded to me..I would literally poop my pants. I could give a giant fudge about celebrities but Stephen King..oh boy oh boy. Ok I might be excited talking to Robert England too lol

My husband is very good about manners greeting people because of his job. We were at a PGA tournament early in the a.m. when not many people around and Ernie Els is walking towards us. My husband tips his visor and says Good morning Ernie! And Ernie Els responds good morning with a slight wave as we pass. I laughed so hard later. It was like they were just arriving at work and passing at the time clock. This was over 10 years ago. Ernie Els is still a class act!

Seems like a generational thing. Millennials and younger don’t really care for that formal “sir” and “mr whoever” bullshît. Homeboy’s name is Neil, and if it was improper to identify him as such, he would have changed his name a la The Artist.

Goby Saves The Day

Goby Saves The Day

Instead of placing garbage cans around this beach, the city made a giant see-through fish out of some barbed wire and meshm and added a sign that says "Goby loves plastic, please feed him". Kids love feeding Goby, who is usually full by the end of the day, and taken away by the city.

I know what you are, You are in Love. Those are some deep feelings you have, you don’t need to stress/worry about labelling yourself. Just follow your heart. As David Rose on Schitt’s Creek says “I like the wine and not the label”.
