This Is How A $2.25M House That’s Built Underground Looks (24 Pics)
A quaint and colorful house in Buffalo, Texas has grabbed the internet’s attention. The building is entirely underground and has 3k square feet of living space with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and 3 additional rooms.
It’s on the market right now, but before you go grab your wallet, there’s something you should know. The price is jaw-dropping—it costs over 2.2 million dollars!
The property has no natural light, however, the decor is very bright and it honestly looks like a very cozy place to live in. Worse comes to worst, it would make for a wonderful place to hide in until 2021. Have a look through photos of the property and let us know what you think of it, dear Pandas.

It’s not just the underground home that you’d be buying. The property includes some above-ground structures on the nearly 40 acres of land as well, including a garage and a workshop. There’s also a pond with a deck, too.
Meanwhile, you enter the actual underground home through a ‘hobbit hole’ that’s painted to look just like a brick tunnel.
Listing agent Terri Alexander told Today Home that at first, she thought it would be disorienting going into the home. The owner of the property had both privacy and security in mind when they built the home. They were also conscious about protecting themselves from storms and tornadoes that are native to the area.
“It’s built into a hill. They dug out the hill, created the structure, built it, and then covered it back up,” Alexander explained just how everything was built.
According to the listing agent, the unique and colorful furnishings could be passed along to future buyers as well. However, if you’re not a fan of the bright motifs, you can always redecorate. Each room is decorated in a different style and theme.
Funnily enough, even though the house is underground, it’s not very claustrophobic: the rooms have vaulted ceilings that reach 25 feet (that’s just over 7.6 meters).
Another pro is that the home is fully self-sustaining. It uses water from a well on the property, has its own water and septic system, and even has a generator that can power the home for 2 weeks.
“It can go off-grid completely,” Alexander said.
Some people adored the property while others weren’t too sure about it being underground

Share on FacebookThis is just so busy, the walls, the floor, the cabinets, everything has a pattern and then no natural light either. It's unique and interesting but I couldn't survive more than 10 minutes in there.
I felt sick scrolling through it - the designers have the most gaudy ideas I have ever seen! It makes Vegas look classy.
Load More Replies...Though I would appreciate the tons of work that must have been put into this house, I find it too colorful and cheesy. Despite how the walls look with details and stuff as standalone paintings, I couldn't live in a house that looks like this. I hope they can make sure it is well ventilated!
Holy Pazuzu... the colors, the paintings, THE S*****G IN THE FACE WHILE I BRUSH MY TEETH... but I would go for it, just to be far away from people....
Woah! It's like Bilbo Baggins dropped a tab then took up his paintbrush! x
Nice for a short holiday but I can't imagine anyone wanting to live in a place where the colors are screaming at you.
I don't mind the fact that it's underground, that would lead to huge savings on heating in a cold climate and is environmentally friendly, but why go to the trouble building a very interesting and smart structure and then ruining the concept with kitschy paintings on very inch...I'm sorry I don't mean to offend anyone but I couldn't look at the pics properly, I couldn't see the house because of the crazy splash of colour, way overboard...
I feel like this house could have had so much more potential if not for the murals, colors, flooring choice etc. The paintings make it way too busy and not relaxing.
I dream of having a partially underground house. But this one is just too busy. It would have me descending into an anxiety attack within an hour.
the paintings are beautiful but i dont think i could live here since i spend a lot of my time outside, not underground. all the paintings on the doors makes me think of a zoo
It’s okay. But a masterpiece in artworks. I live in a white walled home, so it’s a bit hard. :p
Ugly lol Rich people sometimes really have no taste. It hurt my eyes looking at photos I can't imagine living there without completely redoing the inside
On top of the obvious colour-crazyness, did they think about fire precautions? Since it's very hard to get into as a fireman, it's gonna be very hard to put out, before the air fueling it runs out.
I think the Idea and the building of it stupendous although I would redecorate. The further I can stay away from people and the closer I am to nature the better. I wish I could afford it. Its better than the dump I'm sitting in right now.
The painting took a lot of talent but the first thing I'd do is paint over it. Unfortunately I'm a little short of walking around money this week so I'll pass.
I like the overall concept of the house but I'd definitely have to redecorate. Also, growing up and still living in Texas, I would never swim in a pond or stock tank like that one. Water moccasins and snapping turtles are just way too common in them.
Pity... could have been magical, instead it looks like Louis Wain's cats. Had this been left as clean concrete and furnished minimally with a dark stained wood, and white accents, it could have been a magically surreal place of peace to get away from humans. Now, it's a monument to exactly why some of us on occasion need a break from humans and their ludicrous excesses. I would have been entirely unsurprised to learn cvntye or one of the other kartrashians did this.
Its wayy too colourful. I like walls plain and modern, but this is just so much
The brick needs to be real not painted on, the walls should be white, frame the mirror in gold, put in skylights, chuck most of the furniture and sharpen the edges of the walls. Then get some oriental rugs, dark green velvet, tapestries, replace the doors, widen most of the rooms. Replace the lights into warmer tones, get a dark floral mural. Get some orchids, add large vases. And chuck that trashy sarcophagus into the trash. Keep the change ya filthy animals.
Bit too colourful for me. I would also keep walking into the painted doors, and I'm just generally not a fan. Maybe because I'm an idiot.
It looks like they've cut all the tree roots when building the place. They're all dead!
A hard no. It could have a fantastic design and wonderful decor and that wouldn't matter to me because there is no real light coming in. Why build underground?
No. Nope the interior is old and so 80s. Some of the paintings r nice but that is it. I donot like any of the interior or architecture. I like modern High ceilings with minimalistic interior and view of the city line or ocean. AND NATURAL LIGHT. The colours r too much ,And haphazard .and I have seen bold colours in much nicer rustic settings that actually look brilliant. This with no natural view or interior is not only suffocating but garbage. I donot understand who designed this. It has no hobbit themed. So atleast lotr fans could visit it. Repurpose it as an underground bunker. Otherwise it has zero value. If people take it they r either vampires or extremely socially anxious. No sane person would live here.
i am still sane but the colors are a bit muddled.
Load More Replies...I really don't need to look at million-dollar houses, let alone multi-million-dollar houses. I already hate where I live enough to feel bad looking at Zillow postings of DETACHED structures with some SEPARATION between residences. I don't NEED to see s**t I will NEVER set foot in.
