Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shocked the public when they announced on January 8 that they were leaving their position as senior members of the royal family. One of the most notable changes they're making is to deny a group of British press outlets first access to their personal press releases after years of press coverage and editing decisions that they feel have been unfair, filled with favoritism, and aimed to turn public opinion against Meghan in particular.

Since the announcement, journalists unearthed some of the British media’s most snide and judgmental headlines about Meghan and put them next to what the same outlets—sometimes even the same authors—thought of similar situations when fellow Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton was involved. Here are some of the things that British journalists only seemed to think were wrong once the former British royal family member Meghan did them. (h/t buzzfeed)

Why is press not absolutely delighted? Here's a little known point - I mean except for every pregnant woman ever - all pregnant women put their hands on the baby bump, on their pregnant belly. Protectively, lovingly, proudly - the fact that anyone would give a woman a hard time for this is inexcusably callous.

Now Meghan knows how Melania may feel being compared to Michelle. No matter that the FLOTUS is always beautifully attired, and dresses in the latest and most expensive designer wear, the press refuses to acknowledge her sense of style. Even with a staff of 24 and two full-time make-up artists at her disposal, Michelle often arrived wearing what appeared to be shower curtains and garish tablecloths found on sale at Target clearance. Still, despite the horror show, the press fawned over her like she was Coco Chanel reborn. We don't have to read of Kate and Meghan to see the hypocrisy of the media, we witness it here on a constant and neverending basis. michelleex...e3f5bb.jpg michelleexiting-af1-5e24095e3f5bb.jpg

So when the press and trolls treated Diana, Camilla and Kate like s**t, this being the examples that Meghan's friends were using when they told her that the press would chew her up and spit her out, it was because they were racist to all 3 ?? I find it a little odd to say that Harry is protecting Meghan from the racist press because she's going through the same thing his mother went through...as a black woman ?? Is it possible the press are misogynistic snobs who go after 1 woman until fresh meat shows up and they turn tail towards her.

May I point out a vast difference between the two? Meghan had one (or both) hands clutching her growing belly in Every-Single-Photo shot between announcement of her pregnancy and Archie's arrival date. Kate, on the other hand, was capable of trusting her muscles and ligaments to hold the babe in place until it was time!

In 2016, shortly after the pair began dating, Prince Harry issued an official statement condemning the media’s coverage of Meghan. Among his complaints were one newspaper’s quips and tone-deaf euphemisms about her race and class background.

Since then, many have continued to speculate that the media’s general bias against her comes from resistance to accepting a mixed-race American into what upper-class white British people feel is an exclusive cultural institution like the British royals.

This year, it looks like the couple decided that strongly worded letters weren’t making a difference and they’re now setting off to teach the British press a lesson by cutting ties officially.

Kate: "As far as bridal bouquets go there was nothing particularly regal about Kate Middleton’s modest arrangement of simple, seasonal flowers. Like the bride herself the bouquet was effortlessly elegant and understated. "Yet behind that modest posy lay a secret story. Kate, the commoner-turned-duchess, had painstakingly selected blooms with real meaning. She is evidently well-versed in the language of flowers, a little-known romantic relic from the 19th century. "Hence the use of lilac in her bouquet, which signifies the first emotions of love, the lily of the valley meaning a return of happiness, hyacinth standing for constancy, myrtle meaning love and the ivy, which represents fidelity. Then of course there was the suitably named Sweet William, which is shorthand for gallantry." Express: Aug. 29, 2011
Meghan: "[Meghan Markle] was holding a wedding bouquet which flowers were replicated in Princess Charlotte and the other bridesmaids’ flower crowns. Express.co.uk can now reveal the children’ crowns were made of flowers that can be deadly, especially for children. Meghan’s bouquet was made of forget-me-nots as well as sweet peas, lily of the valley, astilbe, jasmine, and astrantia... "Lily of the valley is a highly poisonous woodland flowering plant and ingestion could be deadly... As Meghan’s bridesmaids were so young, having this flower on their heads could be considered a dangerous decision. Other brides have also used this flowers including Kate Middleton, Princess Eugenie and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall." Express: Oct. 13, 2019
