Woman Asks Twitter If There’s A Man Who Wants To Be Her Wedding Date, 3 Years Later…
When you think of online dating, Tinder and OKCupid are usually the first things to pop into your mind – but what about Twitter? A Londoner named Llia Apostolou needed a date for her sister’s wedding back in 2014, so she put out an open call to the men of the Twittersphere, and one response she received ended up changing her life.
As Llia’s post was going viral with hundreds and hundreds of retweets and likes, a guy named Phil Gibson came across it and volunteered himself as tribute. “I can do this, I’ve got a suit and everything,” he enthusiastically commented, and so the awkward-slash-adorable banter ensued. Though Llia later admitted that she ended up going alone to the wedding for unknown reasons, she did meet up with Phil ‘IRL’ later that week, and the rest is history.
Read the full modern love story below, and let us know if you’ve ever unexpectedly met someone special online!

Share on FacebookI can't help but picture him yelling I've got this! Then ripping off his shirt and there's a suit underneath.
That's nice and everything but can someone tell me why do you necessarily have to have a date for a wedding? Why can't it be enjoyed if you're on your own?
Perhaps it was a family wedding and she didn't want to deal with questions. Or maybe it was a wedding she just didn't want to attend alone.
Load More Replies...This is so sweet! My SO and I also have the coolest story. We didn't meet online, but 12 years ago. I was still in school and he was studying and we were waiters at the same restaurant. We were really into each other, but both too shy to say anything. HE actually asked me to go to a live show with him once, but my dad wouldn't give permission. Then last year he posted on facebook that he'll be disabling his account and he posted his number "for anyone who'd want to get a hold of him". I took down his number and the next month I messaged him and said that I missed his name on my newsfeed. We then made pans to meet up for some wine and chat. We've now celebrated 8 months together and recently moved in together. We're planning on getting engaged soon and touching the subject of starting a family together. Life's goooood!
met my husband online in 1999 :) Way back when chat rooms and mIRC were things that existed. We met in 2000 and celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary this February!
I met my exhubby the same way! We met in a chat room on Bolt.com in 1999, got married in 2000. We broke up last year, but it was a good breakup, if you can call ending a 16 yr marriage good... Lol Congrats on your anniversary, and hope you have a wonderful life together!

My better half and I met after he made a funny comment on a Facebook post from our local newspaper. I "liked" and he added me as a friend for a joke. We sent messages to each other joking about how awful dating had been for us both and agreed to meet up as buddies for a few drinks with friends... Just over two years later and we're living together and couldn't be any happier! Love really does come when you least expect it 😍
I was on mIRC in a channel called #DFWMetro, bored, and sent a private message to someone that another friend said was a bot. I said, "So, you're a bot" in message. He replied, "No, I'm actually a real person". We just celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary and will have been together for 20 years this December :)
I write true love stories about how real people met and fell in love and YES it definitely happens online - a lot! The story I'm actually working on right now is a lovely couple who also met on Twitter through their mutual love of football - how awesome is that? I'm biased when it comes to my favorite online love story though as it belongs to my very best friend who found CRAZY love on her first online date in August 2016. Her wedding is September--just a few short weeks! <3
Bianca - my wife and I were the same story! Met on Twitter due to both being Packers fans. Met IRL at Lambeau Field in Nov 2013, got engaged there in Aug 2014, got married there in July 2015.

My husband. We met in an online game and I moved from England to America to meet him. We just celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary. ❤️
People love love and they want to believe in it. I think this is really sweet! I wish them the very best as a new family.
I met my eventual husband just minutes before closing out my Yahoo personals account. I was so jaded and was losing all hope of finding someone that was worth spending my time with.. when just before I cancelled my membership a man popped up wanting to chat. I ended up giving him my personal email and told him I was closing my acct and if he wanted to talk- he could email me. Well, we ended up emailing back and forth for two months, then we then exchanged phone numbers and talked and texted back and forth for another month. I finally decided I was ready to meet him and asked numerous times but he was busy with work. My last try to get him to come out and meet me was on oct. 23,2009. I told him if he didnt meet me that I wouldnt ask again.. told him where I'd be along with a picture of myself. It turned out that night was his birthday and he was out with his friends.. he diverted his original plans and they all came out to the bar I was at. We hit it off immediately. Been married 6yrs
Met a girl online in December 2006, we lived 8.200 apart in each our continent. Today we are married four years running....
I met my husband in an AOL chatroom in 1997, when I accidentally clicked on his profile and he answered it. I lived in Iowa he lived in Pennsylvania. 20 years and a 9 yr old son later, here we are together.
Everyone always sees it as a happy ending when people get married, as if that's the end of the story, as if no one ever gets divorced or, even more likely, endures a miserable, loveless marriage for the kids that have crushed their dreams and strained their relationship.
I met my wife on facebook. Just a random friend request from her. I didn't know her from a hole in the wall. We had a few dates, then unasked her to be my girlfriend. I knew from the get go that she was the one for me. 6 months later I asked her to marry me. After almost 6 years together and 2 kids later, we finally tied the knot on our 5 year engagement anniversary. I couldnt be happier.
I've met my bf on internet and 8 months later I was packing my things and sending them to his flat in a completely different region of spanish geography. We've been toguether for almost two years now and have plans to get married. Not everything is roses and birds chirping on our path, but we are toguether and that's what matters. Don't give up.
I met my husband online. I was bored at first, then my brain engaged and I was like, "OMG this is the kind of man I should be with." He had brains (multilingual and ascerbic), kindness, and soft-spoken. We met in person and I think I fell in love with him within the first 24 hours. We've now been together foralmost 12 years.
Probably asked Twitter for a date, to avoid being asked "when are you going to get married". Going by her last name, she's Cypriot; and us being of Cypriot background, we cop that question every single time. Good on her though, for eventually finding her Prince Charming.
I did, sorta. I met my husband at a SciFi con, in a large group of people, only long enough to discover that he had made his own costume. Fast forward to after the con, when everyone is friending new people they met at the con, and he came up in my suggestions. I friended him, thinking I would ask him if I could commission a custom piece for a costume I was working on. Nearly three years later, he has moved across the country and we are happily married :)
Met my sweetheart online - on a 3-day free trial of Match.com At the start of our second date, he said, "We're a couple, right?" in his adorable English accent, and that was it. We just celebrated our 9th anniversary of that momentous occasion.
I met my husband in a chat room on AOL 16 1/2 years ago. 12 1/2 years of marriage and 3 kids later we are still together.
MY Fiancée has her K-1 interview on July 11th. We met on a Salivary gland tumor group that I admin on Facebook two years ago. She is a Filipina working in Singapore. She is the most amazing woman and truly my soulmate. God bless you both!
Met my husband of now 16 years in a random chat room in 1999, when AOL was the big thing. We lived 1700 miles apart, but 4 months after meeting online and after only two weeks being physically together, I moved across the country and the rest is history. We started with 5 kids between us, by the way...
Not quite the same, but my brother #1 met his wife at a wedding (they were both in the wedding party). Then, a couple years later at their wedding, my brother #2 met his wife (also part of the wedding party). Now, the sister of my sister in law #1 is engaged to brother #1 best friend. Its all kind of like a Friends plotline, exciting, but maybe a little nauseating.
Congrats! I met my Husband almost 9 years ago after posting a personal ad on Craigslist. I had just left my boyfriend of 10 years and posted an ad that I was sure he would respond to (he was good at online cheating). Well I will never know if he responded because the guy who made me quit reading responses grabbed my heart and we got married a year later. The last thing I wanted to do was meet, muchless marry anyone!! Funny how fate works :)
I met a man on Tinder after we had both just joined a week prior. We went on our first date two weeks later and haven't spent more than 3 nights apart since then. He took me to Paris and proposed to me within a year and we've now been married for nearly 10 months. My soulmate for sure. It really CAN happen online!
I met my husband through a Facebook game called Mafia Wars in November 2010 - a mutual friend who plays the game suggested for us to add each other. It took us 3 years to talk seriously and to discover things that we have alike - a Lot. Before we met in person, he asked if "it's possible to feel loved for someone you haven't met yet". I thought he was just pulling my finger. On the same year, he went to visit me in my country, The Philippines (from the United States) and we found out that we even share the same birthmarks. Our birthmarks look like four leaf clovers, only his is a bigger version of mine. Later that year, He moved to the Philippines and we got married. We've been married for 3 years and 6 months. :) --- My soulmate indeed, the missing piece in the puzzle. :)

I had a friend about 10 years ago and I told her her cousin was cute lol I was only ten I never even knew his name and after about 6 months of dating my bf I found on POF we came to realize he was the cousin from so many years ago it was super strange and amazing lol

So adorable! Chance meetings are the best :) When I moved to Toronto to start my PhD, I had been here less than 24 hours when a little blond girl ran into a subway station soaking wet from this super heavy thunderstorm. Her phone had died so she asked to borrow mine since she didn't know where her friends were. I let her borrow it and, after she found out where they were, we went our separate ways. Later that night I received a text from her friend asking where she was and telling her (me) that they were leaving. I was a bit worried about her, alone in the middle of a stormy night without her friends or phone, so I explained that I was a stranger but asked them to let me know when they found her - for my own peace of mind. They did and, long story short(er), three years down the road the person on the other end of that conversation is my fiancé <3
Met my husband on Myspace XD wasn't looking for a date I just liked his profile picture, it was a piece by Alex Grey.
I met my husband online in a chat room, 17 years ago. Actually he found me, we talked on line and on the phone for almost 3 years before we met in person. We have been together ever since, and got married on my birthday 8 years ago. He is a true Blessing!
The part I find funny. When they first met, he was fat and she was skinny. 3 years and 1 relationship later. Shes fat and hes skinny. 10/10 guy gets distant then the womens like "youve changed". B***h, so have you. I started dating Emma Stone and now Rebel Wilson is complaing that IVE change? Both your mental and physical appearance go hand in hand. Appearances get you in the house, personality is why your staying. Dont b***h to us when you get rid of the door and wonder why we are unhappy.
Online? No. I met my first husband standing in line for Rocky Horror Picture Show. That one lasted about 3 years. I met my second husband at a D&D game we were both playing in. That one is 17 years and counting :)
I reconnected with my 7th grade sweetheart last year on facebook. It had been almost 29 years since we had seen each other as I abruptly moved in junior high. We had both googled each other over the years with no success .. then very randomly one night he popped up on Facebook. We are getting married this year!
Yup I did meet someone special online. Haven't met in person yet but I'm already falling for him.😍
I met my significant other on Yahoo Personals in February of 2007....still together, and he's a total sweetheart.
Everyone loves a romantic ending to a story and in this day and age, meeting your future online isnt so far fetched any more. :)
My boyfriend and I actually went to school together but I hardly talked to him (mostly cuz his girlfriend was crazy) they dated for 2 1/2 years and then he broke up with her and he accidentally started spam commenting on my facebook posts, not realizing it was all my stuff til it was too late. My mom took notice of it and said he was cute and I should go for it if I wanted to. I told him what my mom said and we've been together ever since
Yes. And 14 years later he cheated on me and left me for the other woman. Never again.
yes i did the same, i joked together with my friends under his fb picture i will marry him and....exactly 2 years later ( one week ago ) we said yes!
You should of had everyone who was single and coming to your wedding find a date like you did spread the love lol
Sweet story but what I really don't get is why it seems to be normal that you MUST have a date on a wedding. If you're single and want to come to your friends wedding, so what?
I keep getting notifications that people are replying to a comment I made here, but I can't find the comment or replies! Her name soundtrack..probably scared family would be all over her with why she wasn't married with kids yet..,
I met my husband online in 1993. We are still blissfully in love. We had so many weird things in common that we had to meet in real life. It was love at first sight. We spent hours and hours on the computer (such as it was back then) and the phone for about four months, spent two weekends together, and he moved from Iowa to Arkansas. I always say we could've been on Oprah back then for meeting online (which was unheard of them) and now we could be on Oprah for still being crazy in love!

Not online. But once I went to workshops in Georgia and there was this Armenian guy. So after one week, we've decided that "whatever, let's try" and after a lot of obstacles and some dramas, almo 1,5 year later we're getting married in 5 weeks.

Load More Replies...I met my fiancee on Facebook, and it only took one year for me to propose and her to say yes! I live in Japan and she in the Philippines, and we have NOT MET YET face to face! See http://www.jamesjpn.net/events/engaged-to-be-married/
I've scrolled through every possible " Load more replies" option here, but it doesn't appear! Clicking the link in the notification just takes me the main article here -- anyone have a solution? I love this story, so romantic! I love hearing more stories like this!
Same thing happened to me 😭 Maybe the comments get deleted after a point!

I met my husband online. I saw a pic of a reasonably cute guy with a REALLY great boxer dog in a kayak. I texted I liked his dog. He texted

Not online. But once I went to workshops in Georgia and there was this Armenian guy. So after one week, we've decided that "whatever, let's try" and after a lot of obstacles and some dramas, almo 1,5 year later we're getting married in 5 weeks.

This would make a good movie. I don't think I've ever seen a story line like this.
