It is astonishing how fast random opinions on the internet can ruin a person’s outlook on a given product of media entertainment.

But sometimes you don’t need some rando’s thoughts because the show beats them to it by imploding on itself through bad script writing, presentation, acting, or any combination of those three and more.

This inevitably leads to Reddit threads like this one, where folks list TV shows and series that started off very well, becoming instant hits, and then getting progressively worse for a multitude of reasons.

Scroll down to check out the best responses and answers to the now-viral Reddit thread, having over 30,000 upvotes, and why not perform all of the necessary formalities like upvote and comment and then upvote and comment some more.

Oh, and beware, spoilers!

Person Asks “What TV Show Was Amazing At First But Became Unwatchable For You Later On?”, And 30 Folks Deliver First few seasons were great with pretty good pacing. Later seasons devolve into telling one story at a time. They’d have a cliffhanger of a character maybe dying and do 3 weeks of other stories. By the time it gets back to the cliffhanger you have no idea what’s happening. That and it got repetitive.

I always find this equally funny, depressing and annoying. GRR martin gave the show runners a roadmap for how the book series was going to end up. This was it. So many people are upset over the fact that the "mother of dragons" who somehow became a feminist icon, despite the many, constant hints over the fact that like the rest of her family, was INSANE. Her ending was obvious. From the point where her brother was given the golden crown and she basically shrugged. The last seasons had their flaws, but people are just pissed that they invested so much into the dragon queen without really paying attention to the very loud subtext

I'm not a fan of Daenerys but the whole last season sucked bad. People aren't mad that they made her a villain, they're mad that they botched it. The writing the whole season was awful and they screwed up the plot, the characters, and the character development because they were rushing to go work on their side project instead. There's a difference between an upsetting ending and an ending that's upsetting because it's bad. I would have loved to see the villian arc they were setting up work out, but this was not it. They needed way more time to get her to that point (they could have had four more seasons, but they chose not to), and the way they did it, they just went straight to the end. It's not a slow descent into madness, she just snaps all of a sudden. Yeah they're was foreshadowing and setup, but not enough that you'd think she'd start grilling thousands of people when she'd been acting pretty sane. It's just lazy and it doesn't work at all.

It's not the way it ended that is the problem, it's the chopping great chunks out and changing of characters etc that they did. Right from the start. They just rushed through it at the end

(1/2) The only problem with the last two seasons was, that they did not take so much time for the evolution of the story and characters as they did in the first seasons. No more funny or serious dialogues, which don't really advance the plot, but explain and develop the characters. Trips (from the Wall to Dragonstone, for example) which took half an episode in the earlier seasons took only from one scene of this storyline to the next. Seasons 7 & 8 should have been a lot longer, at least with a season 9, if not season 10. The storylines itself and the development of the characters were okay.

(2/2) There were signs in the earlier seasons that Daenerys was not the nice liberating queen people wanted her to be (espescially those who named their daughters Khaleesi). Ser Jorah died happily, having saved his queen's life (before she was going mad), Jamie's story was sad but predictable (sorry for Brienne, but she survived), and so on. Only Bran was a bit wasted, his character could/should have been more important. And: Episode 69 (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms) which takes place in the night before the Battle of Winterfell, is probably the best episode of any TV series ever done. The whole atmosphere and tension is fantastic. And why? Because they took the time that was needed for the story to create atmosphere, tension and emotions.

IMO the climax is in The Long Night episode and in the wrong sequence/timeline. They don't have to change the ending/story but tweaking the timeline would suffice. Should have tied up all the loose ends in King's Landing first, killing off Cersei & Jamie Lannister, The Mountain, and the people. Then, Jon & Daenerys continue to Winterfell (transport mode via dragons?) to fight the undead army. With Daenerys dying in battle or being killed by Jon (fine by me because of her atrocities in King's Landing). The show started in Winterfell, it would have been perfect to end in Winterfell too. My preference. 🤷‍♂️

I don't understand why so many people were unhappy with season 8. Is it because so many people can't handle if there is no happy end? I think it was consequent. Of course, not all episodes were perfect, but 'The Bells' and especially 'The Long Night' were awesome, imo.

All the people arguing about the dragon queen being obviously insane and not understanding why viewers were so upset don't GET IT. She was NOT the Problem with the ending. THE ENDING was the PROBLEM. The ENTIRE last season's STORY TELLING was the PROBLEM. All of it SUCKED. Period.
