TSA Employee Accidentally Gropes A Woman’s Chest Thinking She’s A Boy, Ends Up Scoring A Date With Her

Love can blossom in the most unlikely places and in the most embarrassing situations. Like when a TSA employee accidentally groped a grown woman during a pat-down, thinking that she was a teenage boy because she had short hair and was wearing a hoodie and sweatpants.

Reddit user TifuthrowawayTSA4 told the r/tifu community about the awkward situation when he realized that the person he patted down was none other than an adult woman with her college hoodie and yoga pants. Several apologies were due.

Fortunately, the entire situation ended well. Very well, in fact. The employee and the passenger ended up dating and they recently celebrated their one-year anniversary! We spoke to the redditor about what happened and if he still feels embarrassed about the situation. Scroll down for Bored Panda’s interview.

A TSA employee told the internet a very embarrassing story about a day at work a year ago

Fortunately, the story had a happy ending

We wanted to know if TifuthrowawayTSA4 still felt embarrassed when he thinks about what happened that day. “Yes, I do. Some of my coworkers still give me sh*t about it. It’s become kind of a running joke at my airport.”

He added that “accidental cross-gender touching is something that happens occasionally, and it’s happening more and more as non-binary, genderfluid, and gender-nonconforming people become more common.”

“Usually, it doesn’t result in anything more than mild embarrassment for everyone involved.”

Bored Panda was curious to find out how the couple celebrated their anniversary. “I took a day off work, and we went to a fancy dinner, then went home to watch some Netflix.”

Finally, the redditor had some spot-on advice for people who think they’ll never find love: “Don’t go around groping people until you find one that’s okay with it,” he joked. “That will probably not work, and you might get arrested.”

“Joking aside, the advice I have for people who think that they’ll never find love is the same advice I have everyone,” he said.

“Be nice to everyone, all the time. Even when you’re tired, even when you’re sad, even when they’re being mean to you. Your ability to be kind, patient, and empathetic is a gift. Don’t give it up just because someone else did, and took it out on you.” Truly great advice and something we should all keep in mind, wouldn’t you say, dear Pandas?

“Most people aren’t mean people. If they’re mean to you, it’s because they’re tired, or worried, or frustrated, or upset, and you just happened to be there to take it out on. We’ve all been there, we’ve all done that.”

TifuthrowawayTSA4 continued: “And the next person who does that to you could be a great lover, or a great friend, or just a person whose day you make a little bit better if you choose to be nice to them anyway.”

He had one last thing to say on behalf of his colleagues: “Except, on behalf of TSOs everywhere, when we say take everything out of your pockets, we mean everything. IDs, napkins, gum wrappers, everything. The machine is very sensitive, and we’re trying to save your time and ours.” And it’s what we should all keep in mind the next time we’re traveling.

This is how some redditors reacted to the post

I'm male and have been inappropriately touched by male security going into a club once. He patted me down then grabbed my junk and asked "Whats that". I was like "erm, That's me. Get off please" He asked "Are you sure?" squeezing it more, like he thought it was a bag of pills or something. Me "Yes that's me now let go" And in to the club I went. I dunno, maybe he thought that a 6'2'" tall bloke should have a bigger package? (Not sure whether to laugh or cry here)

Umm, yeah, That guy just wanted to grope you. He's probably done it plenty of times to other people and is still doing it now.

I get this a lot as well. I'm 5'7" when I can stand and over 250 pounds right now (not being able to move much makes weight loss very difficult). However, I live most if not all my life in a wheelchair due to severe arthritis in my spine. I have tattoos, wear over large t-shirts or hoodies when it's cold, have short hair right now and usually wear a baseball type cap. I get called "Sir" all the time. I used to get mad, then I realized, these people are just trying to be polite and I'm the one making it difficult for them to tell I am female.

I use double canes or a wheelchair so I routinely get everything but a pelvic and a mammogram every time I travel

Because the TSA is a f*****g violation of our rights. Have you ever complained to the airlines, called the police on the TSA agents, or called your state rep about this s**t? More of us should. I swore off flying ever again because of the TSA.

Last time I went through TSA, I got a pat down. (64 year old female) I was wearing loose fitting denims and the body scan showed a shadow in the crotch area. The TSA worker said it happens a lot with jeans but not yoga pants. I wondered why men weren't being patted down more frequently because their denims are rarely skin tight.

I got both because the body scan showed a shadow in the crotch caused by loose fitting jeans.

That has to be a good come back to an unwelcome groping, "Hey you haven't even asked me out yet! " Heavy irony if you feel threatened, not so much if you just wanna make a point.

Wow, that is a beautiful story and I'm sp happy for th both of them. That could've ended up on Twitter as part of #MeToo but instead it was handled in an honest and heartfelt manner - which is how everything is supposed to be handled.

Nice story. I also appreciate why this guy doesn’t want people to know what his job is. The TSA is a f*****g bunch of security theatre b******t and does way more harm than good (if it even does any good AT ALL). But the story is a nice change from the usual stories around the TSA. Glad the grocer was so apologetic and the groped was understanding. I’ve spent a number of years being mistaken for a women, being slender and keeping my hair long. One waitress once crouched down on the floor as if to hide from her embarrassment when I turned around to talk to her after she greeted my GF and I with “what can I get for you ladies?” It happens.

Working in Court house screening it is proven that women will hide a knife in their bra. You want a woman to do the pat down or using a wand first to find the metal

You really can't blame the TSA agent. When you don't look the part, you can't expect anyone to automatically know.

Glad she didn't make a fuss about it. If you look and dress like a 13 year old boy, indeed you shouldn't be upset when people think you're a 13 year old boy.

There shouldn’t be a need to “look a certain way” in the first place, in order to be secure in your bodily autonomy!
