U.S. President Donald Trump caused another global controversy last week by allegedly referring to countries such as Haiti and El Salvador, as well as unspecified African nations, as 'shitholes.' The comments, made in a meeting with lawmakers at the White House, were dismissive of potential immigrants from these countries, and have been widely condemned as racist and divisive by the global media.
Now people from these so-called 'shithole countries' have spoken up, highlighting their acheivements and individual worth in a series of tweets that have since gone viral, thanks to their inspirational and often hilariously biting comebacks.
Because come on, no matter what your opinion may be on a country, its culture, religion, government or whatever, dismissing millions of human beings as having somehow less worth than others because of where they are from is just not cool. Not from a regular guy on the street, and certainly not from the President of the United States.

Trump campaigned there, and everybody thought it was a waste of time. Then the polls started turning, and right toward the end she changed her mind, but it was too little, too late. The electoral system was created specifically so that one or two high-population states couldn't dominate presidential elections. So a candidate does well in California and New York... great. You've got to do well in enough states to win enough electoral votes.

I believe the point he was trying to make is that no matter how beautiful the landscape is or anything like that, the government of these countries are full of corruption and are making things very hard for the people that live there. Trump is not on record as saying "shithole countries" nor was he recorded saying such a thing. A few Democrat lawmakers made the claim and are disputed by others who were present. Ever eager to cast the President in the worst light, the press turned this into a racial issue. Many people born in Australia (myself included!) have enough trouble speaking one language. I have a lot of respect for those who learn English as a second language, move to an English-speaking country, go to university and live in a totally foreign culture. For those telling them to go back to their countries, some times it is not an option. And sometimes life just puts you there. I am married to an American and with the current situation I refuse to move there. But one day I will cause my husband would like that but I wonder what my kids will face. For now, we live in a country that has so many nationalities (including a huge American community) that welcomes everyone and no one tells Americans: hey buddy, why don't you go back to your country! Probably because people who belong to sororities and fraternities are among the most privileged and insulated students on campus. They are blissfully unaware of anything other than themselves and indulge in little more than total self-absorption or their status in the artificial social order known as the "Greek System," which generally socially segregates wealthy students from all others and is dedicated to the pursuit of sex, drugs, and alcohol-fueled parties while maintaining a facade of being charitable or promoting professional development. It is an archaic system that deludes itself into thinking it is important and can influence the university or college that hosts it, but is useless and more concerned with its own self-perpetuation than in education or community service.

Dear "The Cappy"; I'm so sorry that when you took in the poverty, corruption and violence you observed (wherever it was that you traveled) that you seemed not to have seen the people who were at the effect of all this injustice. I'm sorry because you somehow placed the inequities of those places above the people who had to suffer them. I'm also sad, because you do not understand that although the U.S likewise has these same problems, to perhaps different degrees, what those in power do to the least of us is done to all of us. Our sufferings may be our responsibility to rectify, but to those of us who care about the pain and work to change it don't view those who suffer as being part and parcel of the s***hole-like treatment they get from those in power. To understand this not-so-subtle difference is the hallmark of a maturing mind who has grown past puerile, incorrect and hurtful generalizations. What this article shows here, are the rich, educated, privileged and strong minded population of those countries. But how many more of their fellow citizens are poor, illiterate, abandoned by the corrupted, careless system, and unable to make a good life for themselves? All countries in the world have their own #shitholes areas, but when the majority of people in a country are living a life none of us would ever wish for, then it is fair in my opinion to call the whole country...rough? I can't find the right word. The word #shithole has the rightful meaning in all honesty, but it is too vulgar to be uttered by a president, who should not talk like the man on the street. Honesty is one thing, but it has to be coupled up with diplomacy.
I'm from a shithole country, we don't have enough food, no medicines, there are rampage violence in the streets every day and night, people dying everywhere, extreme poverty, decaying buildings, broken parks, broken hospitals, broken schools, there are mountains of putrid garbage in public spaces, and top of that we have a failed economy an autocratic and corrupt goverment who has killed millions of people, I mean is a freaking living hell, even though I'm planning to move from this shithole to save myself and my family, I stil love my country because it has beautiful culture, awesome food and its landscapes are breathtaking..and I'll be very sad and offended is somebody says something mean about my country and its people.

I do not intend to highlight the thousands of people with very strong professional titles or who speak 4 or 5 languages, many of them originally from Spanish-speaking countries, also cataloged as shits by Trump. In some of these countries the debate provoked by the baseness of that president's expressions has been to move the criticism inside the economic and social systems that expel their citizens (whether professionals or not) to places where they will suffer humiliations due to their cultural roots and their physical appearance. Where you come from doesn't define who you are or what you can accomplish in life, obviously. Congratulations to all of you for having achieved so much. Yes, the President's comment was inappropriate and ill-advised, but we know he's not the most tactful speaker in town. Many of the comments here though are just as crass and childish. There are more important things to worry about than the President's choice of adjectives. So let's move on to issues of substance and stop nitpicking everything about Trump.
All I see is a bunch of showboating. “Oh hey, look at how amazing I am.” What point is this supposed to prove? First off, we still don't know if Trump actually said this......the person who claimed he said it is a known *fabricator*. It was a closed door meeting, and many others who were there say that he didn't say it.
