Ever had an unbelievable coincidence happen to you? Ran into a celebrity while grocery shopping? Were you on the edges of a scandal that made national news? How about a close brush with the supernatural?

If so, writer Aidan Moher wants to hear from you. A thread he started on Twitter asking for his followers’ wildest stories has attracted responses that range from goofy to chilling. Bored Panda asked the author what he learned from the viral thread and you can see what he said, along with the stories themselves, below. You can also browse all of the responses by searching the tweet’s permalink to find tweets quoting it, but here's a handful of our favorites.

The sci-fi and fantasy author shared some of his own experiences that he’d had in mind when he started the thread, but he admitted that the people of Twitter had him bested. Some of these stories are a little stranger than fiction, whether they're just odd scenes or the whole movie pitch.

if this is legit, that's an incredible coincidence, and a good ending as well.

It's not a coincidence, that was her memories. It's like you always loved a toy without knowing why and it happened that you had that toy when you were 2yo.

Did the "mother" know that she was kidnapped from her bio parents? Was anyone ever charged? So much missing information.

Plus, she says she decided to love both families but in the same time that she has left the house and suing the kidnapper ... A lot of missing pieces.

What amazes me is that after all those years, your real mother still recognized you as her child. How awful that the "mother" she was living with all those years tried to claim that her actual memories of her real family were fake.

Justice is not instant. It could take months or years for the entire case to be investigated and tried. With the information here, we don't know if the woman who raised her new that she was kidnapped, or if she thought that she had adopted a child legitimately.

if that is true, how can she decide to "love both families" when her younger siblings might be kidnapped as well?

She might not love the kidnapper, but she has youger siblings, who she must love, as she was sueing the kidnapper to be able to see them.

You should take this story to a filmmaker, or write about it, because it's incredibly like the plot of a movie, and the fact that it's real is even more amazing.

I admit I questioned if this was real but who am I to not give OP the benefit of the doubt. I read recently a lady found her long lost sister, who had lived on the same street for years and were well acquainted. Imagine being separated from a sibling, growing up, buying a house, and the odds she buys a house on the same block. And they knew each other well before they found out.

Who else cab recall this “REAL LIFE STORY”? https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5823323/amp/Girl-kidnapped-birth-says-abductors-18-year-sentence-fair.html I am not sure what county this “supposed kidnapping” took place? But what I do know is this would have DEFINITELY made world news. Also if we do the math correctly , this kidnapping story WOULD NOT be so old that the internet wouldn’t be spreading this story like a wildfire? However to be fair to this “story teller” I wouldn’t be able to completely say it’s not true. Many details may have been purposefully been left out for the “WOW FACTOR” to be set by the story teller. Because off the top of my head I can think of numerous things that are more plausible that would make this “kidnapping story” to be less exciting, yet a realistic scenario. Example: The person who’s she’s described as the woman/mother who’d kidnapped her wasn’t just some random stranger and more than likely a blood relative . To be continued

That the 3 yr old (at the time) was actually sent to live with (for all sorts of reasons). That would explain why #1 This is NOT been in the National news and makes the most sense about why there’s NO MENTION of a arrest or anything of it’s being described in this. The reason WE can tell no arrests or charges against the “kidnapper” were made is from the details of her having to “sue” for visitation rights to visit her “supposed” siblings. And then also brings me to my last thought “Love won BIGLY” and that she now loves BOTH families? Y’all decide?

Judging from the colors and furniture, the included pictures show her at three around or before the same time I was.. she was 25 when she found out, which will be at least 20 years ago. Internet was not a big thing back then, so still plausible that this was not on your news.

Amazing. She has been living with her childhood memories and even more amazing she found her birth mum. I truly think ALL mothers would recognise their children no matter how long but alas it's been proven that a lot of mothers don't recall their children after extended absences.

We all love a good story, but I'm not buying it. The pictures are all from the early 1960s. You can tell by the quality of the photos, the style of the clothes, the furniture and even her hair as a child. Plus, her grammar is atrocious. A grown woman typically would not tell a story in truncated words. such as "wud" instead of "would". Plus, what exactly would she be suing her supposed parents/kidnappers for? I don't think even Elizabeth Smart sued her captors.

People write this way on Twitter because of the limited characters allowed per post. Also, she said she was 25 when she found out, not that she is 25 now. And she said ,at the time she found out, she was suing her "parents" for visitation rights to her younger siblings, not for money. She left home at 15, most likely on bad terms, and her parents wouldn't allow her to see her underage siblings. It is very possible that she made this up. I'm just offering explanations for the issues you pointed out.

Growing up, she clashed with her mother, who she felt was nothing like her. She used to say things at six years old like, 'I want to go back to my real family, with my boat and dog,' and the mom would say she was being silly and to 'go back to them then, where are they then??' etc. She also used to claim she had a boat and dog and fancy house to people, and the mom would explain she had a vivid imagination, etc. So she grows up, moves out, and while she is doing real estate work, comes across the house she had in her 'imagination' with every detail matching up. So she knocks, and the person that answers recognizes her as a toddler that had gotten kidnapped at 3 years old. It turned out that the house, and dog, and boat was real, and she was remembering things not making them up. Her 'mother' wasn't her real mother. She connected with her real family, but she strangely forgave her 'mother' for what she did (kidnapping her) and the person she was, and came to terms with everything.

That could be happened, but with no case I doubt a girl in her 15 and two younger brothers can just move like that.. Everything has been sorted out in a courtroom and it takes quite some time.

"There are a ton of amazing stories to inspire writers," Aidan Moher, who started the thread, told Bored Panda. "But it's important to make sure you remember and acknowledge where that inspiration came from, and go through the appropriate methods of getting permission to use those stories."

"I think the big takeaway for me as a writer is that life is full of coincidences and just as weird, unusual, and wacky as anything an author can come up with off the top of their head. So, writers should go big, but also think about how those stories impact the people in the moment and later into their life."

When asked if he'd gotten any stories that went beyond unbelievable and were just... not very believable, Moher said there was one rather risque trend.

"I've had... more than a few men making outlandish claims about the size of their sexual anatomy. Those are probably the most obviously fake. Otherwise, while I'm sure there are lots of embellishments and outright fake stories, I'm having fun because I think the majority of these stories are genuine."

Another reason Twitter trends like this take off so hard (see all the beginning vs. end of the decade posts plus any meme asking people to share facts about themselves) is because they tap into people’s penchant for talking about themselves.

Harvard researchers looked into what it is about talking about ourselves that lights up pleasure centers in our brains, and found that we enjoy not just sharing information about ourselves with other people, but self-examination in the first place.

Basically, there’s a reason why asking people questions about themselves is one of the most popular pieces of advice for being a good conversationalist, said to make people more likable. Try asking the same question Moher did next time you’re at a party—some of your acquaintances might have their own stories that they’ve been waiting to share.
