Trends and popular things are, by their design, things that change and shift with time. Something that was popular a year ago is now considered an outdated reference, a popular meme can outstay its welcome in a month, and minor trends go in and out of fashion daily. Basically, just because something is widely accepted today doesn't mean it will have the same significance after some time passes. Perhaps to commemorate these trends, or just catalogue them for future reference, there are community threads online that talk about the trendy things that likely won't be cool in 5 years' time. One such discussion is hosted on Reddit, where people readily expressed their opinions about what they think won't withstand the test of time.

As generational heroes go, it's pretty sad. They'll go away if people stop supporting them. But there's a level of vapidity and shallowness that's become the norm, a lack of intelligence and insight. Plus, these many of these influencers are famous for NOTHING. No discernible talents at all. Unless body posing, flattering lighting, deceptive makeup and a giant plastic ass are considered talent.

As long as there's dumb people obsessed with lowest common denominator "popularity", there will be influencers. So...Yeah, they're a part of the internet media landscape forever.

Honestly, this should never have been a thing. Letting people make money and getting ridiculous perks for virtually doing nothing is garbage. These people don't have discernible skills, they aren't required to actually work and achieve anything.

I guess the current ones will probably already be 'old folks' to the new kids coming up, there'll probably be more in the pipeline for a while until the whole idea becomes dated. But, there have been screen idols for a good few decades now, so don't hold your breath

Influencers make me dry heave. As if taking pictures of yourself living your best life and throwing it in others faces can be considered a "full time job" which they will tell you if you ask them what they do for work. It is lazy, eye rolling self promotion.

I'm going to keep saying it. Influencers are just the new (cheaper) form of advertising. Until they stop making money off influencers, companies are going to keep using them. If you don't want an influencer to exist, don't follow them.

I think that influencers could be useful. Luckily there are influencers that search to point out real problems, and show beneficial, rational and sustainable solutions for our lifestyle. I think about Bindi and Robert Irwin (the daughter and the son of the late Steve Irwin, the Australian naturalist) that use their popularity to continue their parents mission on preserving the wildlife. These type of influencers, that search to spread positive and useful messages are usually less popular that the one that brag about their lifestile and that make money only with marketing of useless product. For me the problem is not influencers (that can be useful as I said), but the celebration of people that don't add value with their contents and that search to manipulate their followers only to make themselves richer.

40 Trends Doomed To Lose Popularity In 5 Years, According To People In This Online Community Gigantic drawn on eyebrows.

KK5993 , FLuffeeTalks Report

Trends are tricky because of their very foundation. Something becomes popular because it's new and exciting, it presents something that captures people's attention, but if it doesn't provide long-term value, it tends to go away. Just look back at the trends that ruled the '90s, for example. Those are now considered to be an archaic concept in the current climate.

Actually, a study was conducted to find out what children used what social media platforms today. The study asked 1,500 middle and high school students. 62 percent of teens said they use Instagram while 58 percent use Snapchat. (Texting was most popular, used by 98 percent of the teens surveyed.) Facebook was, surprisingly, only 7 percent. (This is not copy-and-pasted or plagiarized. I wrote this by myself.)

40 Trends Doomed To Lose Popularity In 5 Years, According To People In This Online Community Current plastic surgery trends to meet the current IG standards. I fear for a lot of people who have had BBLs and facial surgery that the look will become outdated and permanently associated with late 2010’s and early 2020’s, kind of how like there are plastic surgery trends associated with the 90s/2000s.

Then there's a rule of 'what goes around comes around.' There are cases of trends and cool things that were popular before, got old and abandoned, and then resurfaced when we least expected it. Of course, the most obvious cases are centered in the fashion industry, but there are other things too, coming in a variety of categories, such as names or even those same internet trends.

If the 5-day work work does fade, I hope it is replaced by options that can be tailored to the needs of the employee and their family or current situation. That might be longer but fewer days, shorter but more days etc. Equalizing the needs of the business with the needs of the employee would be most ideal.
