Trees have been around for about 370 million years, and as you can from these incredible pictures, there's a good reason why they've survived for so long. Whether they're growing in the middle of gale-force winds, on the tops of rocky platforms, inside concrete tunnels, or even growing out of each other, these beautiful trees know how to survive in places where no other life finds a way. Which explains why the planet is host to around 3 trillion adult trees that cover an estimated 30% of the earth's land. Considering that plants produce the vast majority of the oxygen that we breathe, we should all think ourselves very fortunate that these cool trees are as resilient as they are. We wouldn't even be here if they weren't.

Now scroll down and check our list filled with unbelievable photos - from old trees clutching to life to big trees growing in desolate places and tree roots finding their way through pavements, the beauty of our Mother Nature is truly stunning. (h/t: twistedsifter)

I can't exactly say the roots look beautiful, to me it just looks like a fall waiting to happen. People walk around looking at there cell phones, I wonder how many broken bones it's caused

I have seen a tree like this in town. I wish the root network could be imaged so we could see what it looks like below the surface.

I hate these constructions... the trees has too small place to gain water and the grey concrete is everywhere... :(

I have a maple tree in my front yard, and this reminds me of what it does to the ground around it. I can't grow any grass, or anything else because it sucks everything out of the soil around it, and roots are everywhere. My advice: never plant a maple tree in your front yard.
