50 Animals Who Had To Travel And Still Behaved More Civilized Than Many People
Everyone’s longing for traveling these days. I don’t know how much I’d give for that sweet moment of being seated on a plane, cramming my legs by the window, hoping there won’t be a screaming baby sitting right next to me. Oh, the joys of open borders from the pre-pandemic world!
And as we wait for the covid chaos to stop savaging the globe, and our beloved air, sea, and land transport to resume to normal, let’s take a look at some precious pics of pets traveling instead of us. From dogs bamboozling the plane cabin to pony-turned flight attendants, these are the support animals who make the joys of commuting even more pawsome.

Even though most pet owners would never part with their furry friends, in reality, traveling with animals is not as easy as it sounds. But the hassle starts even before traveling. For example, if you’re about to board an international flight, you should make sure that your pet meets the requirements for your destination country and is healthy enough to travel.
On top of that, every airline has different pet travel requirements, so you want to make sure you know them before boarding. Also, it depends on what kind of animal you're traveling with. For example, if you want to take a pet bird or other exotic animal with you out of the US, you may have to contact additional agencies, like USDA APHIS Veterinary Services (VS) and US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS).
For further information, check out this official list from Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service for the current pet travel health rules.

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, on airlines that allow pets to travel, only small dogs and cats that can fit in special carriers under the seat are allowed in the cabin. It’s critical that their owners take care of them during layovers.
Other airlines may not allow pets in the cabin and will transport them as cargo in specially constructed holds with ventilation and heating. And since for animals, it’s usually better to travel this way since it's darker and quieter, for their owners, it usually means higher transportation charges.

As you can imagine, loading and unloading your pet as cargo can be incredibly stressful to your pet. The CDC encourages pet owners to get their pets used to their carrier before the flight so they feel less anxious.
Other tips from the CDC include purchasing flights with fewer connections and layovers, picking departure and arrival times to avoid extreme heat or cold, and making sure your pet feels safe and calm before and after the flight.

Some pet owners may find sedatives and tranquilizers alleviate their pets’ stress during flight, but the International Air Transport Association discourages using such medication since it “could harm animals while in flight.” Whatever you decide, make sure to consult a veterinarian to make sure both you and your pet are ready to have a flight.

Yeah that mean looking woman could have ruined entire pic if not for gorgeous Sammy riding behind her. She should turn round and look at dog. I'm pretending she has cancer or hates her job.
I would have cropped the pic before I posted it. We want to see the dog, rather than all the human passengers.

I can honestly say that a lot of animals are better behaved than some humans.
I'll second that!!
True in many circumstances!
This article is very frustrating for me to read. My wife and I have flown with our dogs (two calm, well-behaved Pugs) a number of times, and almost every time the flight attendants have demanded the dogs remain shut in a carrier under the seat the entire time because apparently the world will end if they even poke their head out. Nobody would have been harmed if we could have had them (still in their carriers) in our laps or at least had their head out so we could pet them, but it was not allowed.
I suspect the photos are taken in countries other than the USA
Blugeaqua that's because animals are not allowed on public transportation in most places in the US unless they are Service Animals.

Funny how you immediately suspect where they're from, even though they never said.
I have had the same experiences. I wonder where these animals are from. I'm from the US.
I flew with a 12 week old, tiny puppy, in the required carrier. She poked her head out ONCE, my seat mate went awww and started to reach for her. I was in the very last row, but the flight attendant from hell charged up the aisle screaming at me to keep my dog IN THE CARRIER.
What airline was this. They need to see this post.
United. When I boarded, I held the puppy to get down the aisle, as it was too awkward trying to get down that narrow aisle with her shifting around in the carrier. I walked all the way to the last row to a chorus of awwwwwss and “cute puppy” from passengers, punctuated by the harpy flight attendant bitching at me, on my heels the entire way.
I rather be seated next to a bunch of dogs giving kisses and occasionally a noisy bark than a crying baby or a child with tantrums.
Children of a certain age should not be allowed on airplanes. It's obnoxious.
Babies cry sometimes. Toddlers can be obnoxious. So were you at that age. Get over it.
can i add this haflinger in an austrian train please 88CFFA05-F...7-jpeg.jpg
I would add to your adding: horception! another way to travel... horsecepti...70d2fd.jpg
No pony were harmed, no horsed were harmed, i'm an ethologist and this was an inauguration for my friend's pony carriage for disabled children. Some friends went with their horses carriage for disabled people and we just took the pony in it because she don't care, she work in hospitals and elderly houses, and the horses (boulonnais) were fine too. Even the doggos found it hilarious (one by side, two in it).
I like that so many owners took the time to properly harness and kept animals looking happy, safe and look well cared for!
I had a pet rabbit who was a very good traveler. I'd put Jojo in a cardboard box to go to the vet, then open it on the bus so he could look out the window. Not every animal travels well, but he seemed curious and relaxed about what was going on.
It would make my year to see a bunny on the bus.
I would be happy to meet you too, human. 20201016_1...838904.jpg
Mine is ok too, sometimes she just jump on my shoulder so i have to close her bag, that's her waiting for the bus after a trip to the vet. 20200623_1...9261a0.jpg
I'm with you on not offering pets as gifts. My brother once wanted to give me a chinchilla just because I had a rabbit. I said no - I would not have known that they need dust baths and that getting them wet is very bad for their fur.
Thank you Remi, but because of her gorgeousness she has been through a lot. Like other "short nose" animals, or very modified breeds. Many trips to the vets, many suffering and huge vet bills. Her previous owners also mistreated her badly, giving her bad food and thinking she was a "he". She was really aggressive because of it but now she's ok and trustful. Rabbits are very fragile and have very specific needs, and need specialised vets. I hope that people will stop to offer them to their kids or shop them because they are cute without knowing their basics needs.
She is so gorgeous. Hugs for your bunny!
Such delightful animals and people happy to see them!
When we travel it's so easy to be tired and grouchy. But an encounter with any of these guys would be a wonderful way to restore your soul again. I've never seen an animal on a flight in my country, mostly dogs on trains is all. I love their joy of life..
We need more of cute pets behaving beautifully!
