Bolivian Paradise: I Traveled For 3 Months Through The Land Of Wonders

Words and pictures don’t quite do justice to the majesty of Bolivia, never on earth I have met with vistas, people and culture quite as unique as this country has to offer.

I traveled extensively for 3 months throughout this land of wonders. Starting the trip on the Isla Del Sol (Island of the Sun) at 3000m above the sea level on Lake Titicaca, oxygen was in short supply but the spectacular views definitely weren’t. I tried to encapsulate the beauty I saw on a daily basis in my photos. All of the pictures tell amazing story of my travel through beautiful Bolivia.

Finishing the trip on “The Road of Death” one of the worlds most dangerous roads, I thought it might be the last journey I ever took. At the end of the road I was greeted by the charming mountain town of Coroico, with yet more spectacular views and yet friendlier locals. I didn’t want to leave that place.

Needless to say I will be back in Bolivia at the first opportunity and I encourage all of you adventurers out there to do the same!

With all the volcanoes this was really the most incredible location I have ever taken photos of. I could have stayed for weeks but I think the lack of air would have made that difficult.

Next stop was a 4 day drive trip through the beautiful landscapes of the South West, starting in the Salar de Uyuni (Salt Flats).

Me and my friends witnessed one of the most Awe-inspiring sunsets of my life, crowned with a thunderstorm that felt like the end of the world. I managed to take my image “strike” just before we were all running for cover from the torrential rain.

I had a girlfriend but I found another one in the shape of a female howler monkey named cheetah. Spending much time together and many amazing memories, she became a close companion during the stay.

During the wet season, whole dried up lake bed turns into a giant mirror from horizon to horizon.

Next stop was one of the highlights of my trip, we came across a wildlife sanctuary for sick and injured animals, sadly they couldn’t survive in the wild so were brought to the sanctuary for care and protection.

Mining for Minerals

Visiting the silver mine in Potosi was a deeply moving experience. The mountain has been mined since the 1500’s by the Spanish. With the miners working for just a few dollars a week this sadly still continues to this day, with poor health and safety and nightmarish working conditions. Silicosis of the lungs is a big killer and lots won’t live to see their 40th birthday.
