Tom Hanks probably needs no introduction. A favorite Hollywood actor for many, Tom is known for his eclectic roles and for being one of the nicest people in the industry. Recently, the Hollywood star earned an Oscar nomination for playing Mister Rogers, and now he’s on to another children’s favorite. This time, rumor has it that the actor is in early negotiations for the role of Geppetto in Disney’s new version of Pinocchio.

Industry insiders say that the negotiations for the role are still in an early stage. However, the word on the street goes that after reading the script for Pinocchio, Tom Hanks himself has reached out to the director Robert Zemeckis to tell him that he wants to do the film. In fact, Disney has always wanted Tom Hanks as Geppetto. Deadline writes that the studio giant approached Tom years ago, but the deal was never made.

Robert Zemeckis—the director behind Forrest Gump and Cast Away, both of which featured Tom Hanks—will direct the film together with producers Andrew Miano and Chris Weitz. Disney will retell the animated classic Pinocchio from 1940. The tale tells the story of a living puppet who wants to prove himself worthy to become a real boy.

The 1940 film is based on the 1883 Italian children’s classical novel The Adventures of Pinocchio by the writer Carlo Collodi. Pinocchio was the second of Disney’s animated feature films. I am a HUGE Disney geek but I've never really liked the live action movies, it feels like Disney is running out of ideas. If it ain't broke don't fix it! Except for the occasional racist or sexist joke. But in this case I think Tom Hanks will do a great job. I don't see him as Geppetto but I'm sure with the mustache and the wig and makeup he'll do great. Especially his voice, I definitely see his voice being Geppetto's.
I really like Tom Hanks. I also have loved most of the live-action movies that were animated before. I hope they make all the classic animated movies into live-action.
I just hope they run out of remake-able titles sooner than later. This is a boring trend that apparently doesn't want to add anything new to the existing material, in other words, just a cash-grab. Decades ago, Disney made art, now they make money.
So, Disney has discontinued traditional hand drawn videos for digital art, and which got replaced by 3D animation just so they can replace it with poor live action adaptations.
Please don't do this to him.
The only reason I lost any respect for Tom Hanks was because he took the role of Colonel Parker in the upcoming Elvis bio-pic. That was not a man who should have been glamorized in any way. Fake news about Tom Hanks is created by people who don't have anything better to do with their time.
Then you should lose respect for Taika Waititi for playing Hitler too. And all the actors and actresses who accepted roles of real life/historical villains.

Ummm, i wonder when the 'black' option will appear begging to be part of this story too. Will James Earl Jones be portraying the whale.... assuming that he hasn't died. The only Disney character that black people will never want is Tarzan, king of the blacks. Floyd, you've ruined for us. Even our invasive Haitians wants to robs us of our country in his name.
