Japanese Photographer Documents The Many Faces of Tokyo’s Stray Cats (47 Pics)

With his pictures, Japanese photographer Masayuki Oki captures the individual personalities of the many otherwise anonymous stray cats that live in Tokyo's shitamachi area. His collection might be called busayan, which literally means "ugly cat", but the photographer has nothing but affection for his moggie muses.
“I want to travel the country photographing all of Japan’s lovely stray cats,” says the photographer. For now however he limits his setting to the shitamachi area of the capital, where he documents the streetwise cats as they fight, nap, and goof around for the camera. The photographer never reveals the exact location of his feline photoshoot, but if you want to keep up to date with his latest photographic exploits then you can add your name to the 48,000+ people who follow him on Instagram.

Most of the them look healthy and well fed........unlike our strays. :(

None of the cats look like strays, look well fed and sleek. I don't care for felines but you got some cute shots.

Happiest, best fed , most chill looking stray cats I've ever seen - even the toothless one But I knew that, the Japanese love cats - they have an entire island dedicated to them ????

Those strays... very well fed and healthy. I bet they are living close to a market since they looked like have eaten a lot?
Tokyo cats have it the best. I live in Setagaya, where whatever cat you buy is NEVER your cat. Fucker will be eating at everyone's house and still be loved. It's like I never get a invitation to a new neighbour's housewarming party but the cat will ALWAYS get an invitation. tbh Japanese cats have it best. They are worshipped and loved. There's even a cat dress maker.

Lovely adorable shots. You must love cats too to be able to capture such moments. I have seen people feeding strays there. There was a time when I was followed by a group of them in a neighbourhood. Hard to tell if they are strays or not since they all looked wellfed. Hope they find a forever home
I am having a very hard time believing these are strays. Perhaps that was added to the title to enhance the subject matter rather than simply stating "Pictures of cats outside". Either way, it does not detract from the fact that these are lovely pictures nonetheless.
