It's no secret that our society has its flaws - dependence on technology, taxes, obesity, devaluation of workers - to name a few. Some people may not even want to think about any of these problems in society but illustrator John Holcroft, on the other hand, he looks them straight in the eye and depicts them in a satirical way.
Though not all of us have to deal with such problems, it is a great reminder to pace yourself and to familiarize with the society today. Who knows, it might make you a better person in some way.
With a style based on 50's advertisements and a vintage feel - Holcroft perfectly captures today's social issues and modern behavior. Also, his illustrations do so in a brutally honest manner. Keep on scrolling to check them out, and you just might realize with what social media problems you have to deal every day.

Fast Culture
This one is exaggerated. Literature will always be there in its various forms and mediums.
It starts with a very elitist definition of "literature", and goes on to disregard the accessibility and marketing potential (as in, making works known to a wider audience than those visiting bookstores) and all of the actually free works made available online-only. How novel.
Load More Replies...The point here is that there's just not TIME to read literature . Our modern world makes people magpies, attracted to shiny, useless, narcissism-feeding social media instead of challenging our brains by reading well written stories. And God forbid we should have an open, honest, and above all CIVIL debate with those who don't share our beliefs.
Amen. Unfortunately I've noticed it in myself. I really have to summon up the attention span to get into a book now. It used to be easier.
Load More Replies...There are many channels in Facebook, Twitter and YouTube that are dedicated to literature, filled with reviews, recommendation, tips for aspiring authors and interviews with published authors and much more.
Maybe the point here is that our written communication in social media lacks of the excellence of grammar, and slowly but consistently our observation of gramatic rules is being forgetted, like writing covfefe, or maybe a word in this post.
I still read books every day from the library ... just read them e-version on my iPad.
I read eBooks on my phone daily. People probably assume I'm just staring at cat memes like every else. I think this is all just perception.
Load More Replies...Banning history is banning knowledge. Might as well burn the books and be honest about it.
Many people like to hold the information in their hands, then hold a device or laptop.
I think you mean that many of us prefer to hold a real book than a laptop or other electronic device. I agree.
Load More Replies...Maybe not so exagerated, I'm afraid, just read "Culture" instead of "Literature"
literature may always be there, but that does not mean that people with read literature when they can waste time on social media... and tv.
The nails tell the story. We are getting knowledge from everywhere except the written word which holds our culture, history, language, and humanity within its cover.
What I got from this is that literature - in its original form and those considered the "classics" - are falling by the wayside in favor of social media. I can honestly say for myself it took a conscious effort to go read a book. Ask kids in school today if they read any books outside of school requirements.
Literature/grammar? Because people can't spell for s**t, which makes for p**s poor literature.
I love this! Yes, God-willing, literature will always exist, but time spent on great literature appears to be whittled away significantly by time spent on social medias. I'm going home to read a book now! LOL
Frankly, I think literature has always been an interest to a minority of the population. And honestly the majority of social media addicts wouldn't be interested in literature even if social media didn't exist.
Literature might be there but teens and families do not read it. They are always looking at social media on the phones to the detriment of reading books, electronically or paper.
You can take a kid to the library, but you can't make him read. Too many distractions.
I believe part of the point he is trying to make is the death of the beautiful history of literature being taught in our schools

Mmmmmmmmm... yeah, gonna agree with Daria B that this one isn't accurate. Nails in the coffin of literature... but where's the picture of the book uploading to the network? Because that's really what's going on: literature becomes less paper and more pixels.
I read books and novels all the time, except I hadn't picked up a physical book in a while.. hmm..
I disagree. I read a lot, my daughter read a lot. She's only 5 but already has over 15 books. Books for children are getting better and better. I think literature is more alive than ever.
I think it would've been more appropriate to say that literature is dying out in ink and paper format than an actual death of literature as a whole. In fact literature is growing because of tech I mean the different applications and over accessibility of literature regarding things like platforms for everyday average people to share their own creations on apps like Wattpad and people creating fan fiction that explores and expands an already established world and many other forms that would only lengthen this already long comment.

I like. This states it very well. This is the image I see , having lived through the technological advances in electronics as they've evolved over the past 30 plus years. Especially since I started in IT when it was a pioneering work just to build a PC. And being one of the first women in my state to own her own electronics business, it speaks on other levels. Good job.

As usual. Some are ingenious, others are exaggerated. All in all, although repetitive, these images are always interesting and thought provoking.

Load More Replies...You know what's really wrong with society? Simplistic pictures criticizing complex problems.
Sometimes to make something stand out and/or reach a wider audience, complex problems have to be oversimplified or a specific point highlighted... Don't see anything wrong if it brings the main point across. :)
Load More Replies...It's kinda ironic how there's a lot on social media, while this is shared on social media, and agreed with on social media. Not saying that I'm doing any different, but it is kinda funny to think about.
Would be nice to get something good about society out of these artists for a change...
I'd like to see that man depicting what he thinks could be good for society
Pretentious c**p. The "artist" thinks they're being all edgy and cool when in reality they're a pathetic bullying loser.
#44 Actually it would be more fitting if the UK buffalo would be sitting on an island while the other buffalo stick together and invite the predators into their group...
More pretentious a******s making a big deal out of non-issues such as likes and the 'death' of literature, but the Trump one made me chuckle pretty easily.
Mind sharing some of that fruit? They seem to be low-hanging so you should be able to get a lot

Looking over them all, basically, modern life or rather how we live in the modern age is based around consume, breed, be ignorant, be greedy/jealous, be shallow/superficial. Its a trap to drain you monetarily and emotionally dry.

A lot of these are just surreal rather than illustrations of "today's problems." Nothing wrong with that, but there isn't always an interpretation.
