The future turned out a whole lot differently than people expected. For example, Simon Newcomb, a Canadian-American astronomer and mathematician, said: "Flight by machines heavier than air is unpractical and insignificant, if not utterly impossible." 18 months later, the Wright Brothers flew a Kittyhawk. To prove that you can't reallyknow what's going to happen, Bored Panda has compiled a list of things that seemed OK at the time, but have become ridiculously absurd. Like, diet candy AYDS. Or acceptance speeches thanking Harvey Weinstein. Scroll down to check out the entries and if they're not enough, fire up Bored Panda's earlier compilation of 30 Posts From The Past That Did Not Age Well.

Looking at the past in good on a personal level, too. "Self-Reflective Awareness (SRA) is a 'meta-cognitive' ability, meaning that it involves thinking about and reflecting on one’s own mental processes," Gregg Henriques, Ph.D., wrote. "Someone with good SRA is able to generate a narrative of self that is complex, clear, and multifaceted and is able to communicate that narrative in a way that allows others a much better understanding of where one is coming from."

There are a number of different facets to SRA, including knowingnow your family story and developmental history, understanding your needs, motivations, and emotions, understanding your defenses and how you handle criticism, understanding your strengths, and weakneses, understanding your beliefs/values and worldview, knowing your pupose in life and how you make meaning, knowing how others see you, knowing the 'cultural bubble' that you live in. Exploring these areas can dramatically increase the results of one's self-reflection.

This may all sound very complex, but, at its simplest, reflection is about careful thought. It gives the brain an opportunity to pause, untangle and sort through observations and experiences, consider multiple possible interpretations, and create meaning. And every little bit counts. Research by Giada Di Stefano, Francesca Gino, Gary Pisano, and Bradley Staats in call centers showed that employees who spent 15 minutes at the end of the day reflecting about what they learned performed 23% better after 10 days than those who didn't.

The shape symbolizes eternal cycling, a theme found in samsara doctrine of Buddhism , it sits on a flat edge instead of the Swastika that sits on the tip

A beautiful symbol of positive forces, ruined by its aggressive re-branding in the 1930's.

It's a totally legit Buddhist symbol that only means good. It's just that the nazis took it for their cause and completely screwed it up.

The nazis only adopted it, they didn't create the swastika. If people didn't give the image power it would have none. Same as with the N word, if no one gives it power the word will be just that, a word.

A Canadian artist named ManWoman wrote a book about the swastika and its prevalence in ancient cultures around the world. It's called Gentle Swastika: 51dXOaMj6q...c5f8b9.jpg 51dXOaMj6qL_SX390_BO1204203200_-5d6c2b9c5f8b9.jpg

Swastikas rotated at an angle of about 45 degree are Nazi symbols. Otherwise, they originally came from Hinduism. Visit India some day, and you will find them everywhere. They are considered to have a religious significance for Hindus, Jains and Buddhists.

They exist in a lot of cultures around the world. In Europe, too, but now they are saddly seen different because of nazism.

Tom Hanks, as Robert Langdon in The Da Vinci Code opened my eyes to the possibility that not all symbols commonly portrayed as evil are negative. The swastika's one of them.

My mom has an antique quilt with swastikas she inherited. It’s a shame it can’t be displayed because the fabrics are pretty. For anyone who collects quilts, this is the only popular early 1900’s pattern that is affordable.

Swastika is NOT a NAZI symbol! It was USED by NAZIs as symbol.

Chewie Baron

Interesting fact re the Nazis use of the Swastika, after they had gained power in 1933, a letter was sent to them from a group of Buddhist elders who wrote, "if you continue to use this symbol at that angle, it will bring you bad luck." They weren't wrong.

So? Originally swastika comes from Indo-Asia and has a sacral meaning, often symbolizing the sun and solar movement (clockwise). Not to be confused with Hitler's nazi symbol.

They still hang up swastikas at Hindu weddings. I imagine Hindu-Jewish weddings must be super-duper awkward.

Actually NOT the Edmonton Swastikas... they were the Fernie Swastikas (Edmonton is in Alberta, while Fernie is in British Columbia). "The Fernie Swastikas were a women's hockey team that was formed in 1922 in Fernie, British Columbia. Their uniform used as a symbol the swastika, which before World War II was a common religious symbol, and especially a sun sign."

I read somewhere that if you figure in inflation, Avatar is still higher grossing than Endgame; and also if you look at the number of ticket sales. But they desperately did everything they could to dethrone Avatar (launching campaigns, using social media, bringin Endgame fans to buy more then one ticket and to beg their friend to also buy tickets, ...). Honestly, who cares. Both are Disney movies anyway
