Flight Attendant Shares 10 Things You Should Never Do On An Airplane

As people around the world resume traveling, many of them assume that airplanes undergo rigorous cleanings before each trip. However, according to a TikTok user who identifies himself as a flight attendant, that may not be the case.

Passengers should remain cautious and refrain from touching the surfaces to avoid encountering any germs that could’ve been left behind.

Recently, Tommy Cimato shared the behaviors he considers unnecessarily risky with his 126K TikTok followers, but since it’s such an important topic, they spread to a much wider audience: the two videos were viewed roughly 4.3 million times.

And released a few TikToks, listing behaviors that he deems unnecessarily risky

However, there are many reasons why air travel has become so complicated. Reuters reported that airlines from all over the world wrapped up their first meeting earlier this week since COVID-19 brought their industry to its knees, voicing optimism about pent-up demand but desperate for governments to harmonize disjointed border rules to avoid slipping back into recession.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA), which groups 290 airlines, said confusion over travel restrictions was holding back the industry’s fragile recovery after the pandemic plunged air travel into its worst-ever downturn.

“People want to fly. We’ve seen strong evidence of that,” Director General Willie Walsh said. “They can’t fly because we have restrictions that are impeding international travel.”

IATA expects international travel to double next year compared with the depressed levels seen during the pandemic and reach 44% of pre-crisis 2019 levels. In contrast, domestic travel is tipped to reach 93% of the pre-pandemic levels.

IATA warned serious challenges remained for carriers while venting frustration at airports and other suppliers for not doing enough to share the pain inflicted by the crisis.

While the White House has not set a date for lifting travel restrictions on Europeans, JetBlue expects it to happen ahead of the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday next month.

“If the reopening is delayed, we are going to face consequences across the industry,” Chief Executive Robin Hayes said after chairing the Oct. 3-5 conference, which also agreed on a target to reach net-zero emissions in 2050 read more .

One of his videos went extremely viral and has generated over 4 million views

But that would take up time and reduce the airline's profits. I mean, you don't expect their executives to manage without multimillion dollar bonuses, do you?

Regarding the barefoot and bare legs ones, how many people are just randomly licking their own feet? Unless you have open wounds on your feet or legs, you aren't going to absorb illnesses through your skin. That's not how it works.

After a couple of instances of having hives on my arms after flying in a short-sleeved shirt, I cover up. I don't know if there's something they clean planes with my body doesn't like or what, but its not worth it for me. Easy enough to just put on clothing that covers up my skin.

Most are common sense tips, but the illness one is something most people don't think to do. I have type 1 diabetes and tell the flight attendants as I wait to get to my seat. I keep a "kit" of my insulins, snacks, glucose gels and emergency items with me everywhere for instances when my sugar levels are low. Sadly, sometimes when my blood glucose quickly plummets without warning, I don't have the coordination to open the bag or communication abilities to express what I need. Once, that happened shortly after I reached my seat on the airplane. I wasn't able to communicate what was wrong because I was shaking so bad (looks like a seizure) and having trouble speaking. If I hadn't informed the flight attendants earlier of the symptoms, they wouldn't have known what was going on with me. They were great and able to get me some cookies and juice. It was a scary 30 minutes, but I am forever grateful for the fact the ladies who kept an eye on me and pulled me through.

I see how keeping your hands clean is important, but the idea of getting germs from other people on your feet or legs is really not an issue. That's going to happen anywhere you go where there are lots of people. You shower when you get to your next destination. As long as you wash/disinfect your hands regularly, there's nothing to worry about.

Most of these involve the word "eww!" We all know airplanes are a closed tube of recycling germs. I'm much less worried about getting some dude's hair grease on my hair from the window than I am of some anti-vaxxer giving me COVID, someone's kid with chicken pox giving the old guy from Detroit shingles, and the guy coming from the ComicCon spreading 24 hour stomach flu. The first thing I do after a flight is to take a shower anyways. If I'm on a 20 hour flight from Australia to the US, I'm more worried about getting deep vein thrombosis from poor peripheral blood flow than I am getting someone else sock cooties on my socks when take my shoes off to move my toes. Every public space used by more than 1 person will have their cooties. You are already sitting in 412 other people's farts in your cushion and a cloud of 200 people's BO. Worry more about the things that are actually dangerous instead of the things they use to sell fabreeze and are impossible to fix.

Of course I know how to be sanitary and hygienic, but there are things that just wouldn't occur to me and I wouldn't know if there weren't people on the internet willing to share advice like this. While to be fair, a lot of this is basic information, don't give her hate for creating content like this.

About the sanitary stuff, I never understood why people worry about getting their skin dirty. I mean, if you’re going to get it in your mouth or something, maybe wash your hands, but so what if multiple people touched the window? Multiple people touched the suitcase you got back from the luggage return, multiple people touched the tray on the security conveyor belt, but no one cares about that stuff. If you’re a germophobe, wear gloves, otherwise just take a shower afterwards and wash your hands periodically.

due to health issues, i can no longer fly coach or economy as the leg room is too hard on me. so, i have to put forth the buck to fly first class. and, let me tell you, some of this behavior isn't changed from one class to another. if anything, the drinking can be worse, probably because much of it is complimentary. as for getting on and off the plane, much grumbling from others as we get on first and then pushed by the rush to get off which is why i am usually the last to get off because i can't take the chance of getting pushed and falling.

So, where do they write down what you can and can not do on an airplane. It's like the first time I was in a hospital. Nobody told me the rules, and I just sat there for three hours waiting for them when I could have rung a buzzer. As for asking an attendant if you feel sick and need anything, COMPLETE BS. I was mugged and assaulted on my last day in Costa Rica. I had to scramble around the next morning. Then we had to run through the airport. I realized I had had nothing to drink since maybe 8 PM the night before and it was about noon. I was so thirsty I can't even explain it. As I was walking in, I told the greeter I was extremely thirsty and could I have some water. (I saw lots of water on shelves right in front of me.) She said no, they were for 1st class and that was that. 30 minutes later I almost passed out and my husband finally got the flight attendant to bring me a tiny cup of orange juice.

After I use the tissue to press the flush button, how do I dispose of it without touching the spring loaded cover over the trash can -- I can try to shove it through before the cover snaps shut, but that usually leaves it half sticking out. And stop telling people not to recline their seatback fully -- airlines should either give more room between seats or limit the recline to what is deemed an acceptable angle.

Wonderful how his video on "things you shouldn't do an an airplane" has been turned into "THINGS YOU SHOULD NEVER DO AT ALL COSTS!!!" on BoredPanda. Yeah like you should just open the airplane door and jump out and risk killing everyone on the plane before you walk barefoot or touch the toilet handle.
