Not everything goes downhill as we age. Well, surely our close friends circle becomes smaller, hangovers get worse and more responsibilities fall on our shoulders. But a new body of research has shown that some of our brain abilities improve as we age.

For example, a 2011 study looking at data from more than 60,000 people found that our ability to recognize faces continued to improve as we age—until just after we hit age 30. "At almost any given age, most of us are getting better at some things and worse at others," lead study author and MIT department of brain and cognitive sciences researcher Joshua Hartshorne commented to Business Insider.

Another more recent study found that some of our abilities, like reading others' emotions and recalling events that have just happened, to name a few, keep improving until we turn 30. Incredibly, skills like basic math and a larger vocabulary rise throughout our lives and reach their peak around when we turn 50.

Does that mean that we get smarter with age? Well, it depends what we define as ‘smart,’ but some of our cognitive abilities do indeed improve as we age. However, some will deteriorate, like our ability to quickly process and recall information (also known as fluid intelligence), which peaks at about the age of 18. After its peak, those abilities continually fall over the rest of our lives.

But that doesn’t mean it’s bad news for us. There is another study suggesting that having a greater purpose in life can help protect against cognitive decline among older adults. In fact, greater purpose in life has been linked to reduced all-cause mortality and cardiovascular problems, increased longevity, maintenance of general physical functioning, reduced risk of stroke and reduced incidence of sleep disturbances.

Don’t use Aluminium foil at all. It harms the environment and your health as well. Just butter your bread tin or use baking paper.

Will the avacado have the same consistency - thinking the cells are bringing in water?

No it will not have the same consistency most of the time. You might get lucky and have only the top layer be soggy/watery, but IMO it's never quite as good as it would have been fresh. Better to just eat the whole thing in one go.

You can put on a little bit of citron juice (or anything else high in Vitamin C). Will perfectly work.

But why, though? I have a single avocado tree on my garden (they are huge but RIDICULOUSLY easy to grow) and it yelds literally hundreds of avocados on a bad year (and THOUSANDS on a good one). The branches get so heavy with those fruits that every year a few snap and break. It is very annoying after a fashion, because none of my friends will accept a couple barrels of avocados, anymore. Lol So I can't imagine why would a single avocado be expensive.

The FDA recommends that you don't store avocados in water. If the avocado surface has any residual human pathogens, the pathogens will be able to easily multiply in the water.

Similarly with apples and potatoes to stop them going brown. Though I only do it so that I can get the prep done an hour or so in advance.

Leave the pit in the other half of the avocado. Wet a paper towel, add some lemon juice, press the paper towel onto the avocado, and seal in a plastic bag. This works for a day or two--mostly.

And if you want to keep bananas fresh longer, don't put them in a bag or next to citrus/apples, and never in the refrigerator. For asparagus, fill a small bowl with water, cut 1/8th if an inch off the bottom and stand them up in it the bowl. Don't refrigerate avocados, tomatoes, mangoes, papaya, fresh basil, or whole pineapple.

Another way to do this is to wipe the cut avocado with lemon, lime, or pineapple juice. Citrus prevents browning esp. well.

Its more effective if you add a light coat of olive oil to the cut part and store it in an airtight container. I've had mine last 48 hrs like this, no brown.

If you are using them in or on something, you can can cut them into slices and freeze them. I also peeled one and just wrapped it in plastic wrap when I didn't use it. It kept in the fridge for several days.

First wrap the avo in clingfilm before dropping it into the water. gives much better consistency when using later.

Slice in half, eat the half without the seed in it first. The seed in the other half will keep it somewhat preserved. Just shave off any brown areas that look yucky before eating. Signed, Californian that’s eaten wayyy to many avocados
