Not everything goes downhill as we age. Well, surely our close friends circle becomes smaller, hangovers get worse and more responsibilities fall on our shoulders. But a new body of research has shown that some of our brain abilities improve as we age.

For example, a 2011 study looking at data from more than 60,000 people found that our ability to recognize faces continued to improve as we age—until just after we hit age 30. "At almost any given age, most of us are getting better at some things and worse at others," lead study author and MIT department of brain and cognitive sciences researcher Joshua Hartshorne commented to Business Insider.

Another more recent study found that some of our abilities, like reading others' emotions and recalling events that have just happened, to name a few, keep improving until we turn 30. Incredibly, skills like basic math and a larger vocabulary rise throughout our lives and reach their peak around when we turn 50.

Does that mean that we get smarter with age? Well, it depends what we define as ‘smart,’ but some of our cognitive abilities do indeed improve as we age. However, some will deteriorate, like our ability to quickly process and recall information (also known as fluid intelligence), which peaks at about the age of 18. After its peak, those abilities continually fall over the rest of our lives.

But that doesn’t mean it’s bad news for us. There is another study suggesting that having a greater purpose in life can help protect against cognitive decline among older adults. In fact, greater purpose in life has been linked to reduced all-cause mortality and cardiovascular problems, increased longevity, maintenance of general physical functioning, reduced risk of stroke and reduced incidence of sleep disturbances.

Don’t use Aluminium foil at all. It harms the environment and your health as well. Just butter your bread tin or use baking paper.

Tin foil has a shiny and dull side because of how it's manufactured. It's so thin, they put two sheets through the rollers at once. They've said they see no difference in which way you use it

You can test it! Make 2 triangle that can stand out of tinfoil, one with the dull side out, one with the shiny side out! Then put a lot match or a lighter in the triangle and see what they doo! We call it the non, and the whore! Guess witch is witch! When giving heat from underneath, it shows Who is a non, and Who is a whore! The one puuls her leg together, the other spreads the legs (triangle) 😂😂

Aluminum foil is made by passing many layers of micro thin aluminum through a wringer. One side will naturally be shiny and the other dull.

If it is non-stick foil, the dull side is the one with the non-stick coating. ;-)

The Reynolds company was asked about this a couple of years did though and they said “no, There’s a shiny side and adult side because that’s what comes after the roller”

Reynolds did a significant amount of testing on this and determined that it makes no difference which way you use aluminum foil.

It doesn't matter which side you use unless it's non-stick foil. With that you put the food on the dull side.

Again, this is likely Aluminum Foil as they have not made Tin Foil in decades. How the foil is placed depends on what and how you are cooking.

This only matters when you cover a window to keep out light and heat. Turn shiny side out and it will reflect the sunlight. Extra points if you p**s off your neighbors.

Shiny reflects heat better. So if it's in the outside it reflects it. That's the science I was taught anyway

My mil cooked potatoes on the smoker with the shiny side out and they didn't cook. Not at all, they were barely warm even after 3 hours and the meat was done. Next time she did shiny side in as i suggested, cooked in mo time. Also my mother has always used it on her pies edges shiny side out to prevent them from burning while the filling cooks. I know for a fact that even if they aren't manufactured this way on purpose. It works

If you're building a multi mirror solar oven and all you've got to build it with then by all means go for the shiny side to the food thing. Other wise there's no difference or benefit.

No, but because the shiny side is more reflective it can heat up quicker and cause the food to cook a little quicker. However, it really isn't a significant difference in most cases

Noooooo!!! Dull side is oxidised and won't contaminate the food, shiny side will.

That's bullcrap. It's aluminium, so both sides are oxidised almost instantly after manufacturing. Shiny/dull side is ONLY a relict of how they manufacture the foil and it DOES NOT MATTER which side you put on the food.
