Perspective is an interesting concept, isn’t it? Just by slightly shifting our view, we can appreciate the beauty around us, see things in a completely different light, and come up with a myriad of new ideas and solutions. But to achieve that, people should keep an open mind and step out of their comfort zone every chance they get.
To learn more about perspective and what kind of role it plays in our lives, we reached out to Kelly Boys, a mindfulness trainer, consultant, and author of The Blind Spot Effect: How to Stop Missing What's Right in Front of You. She told Bored Panda that perspective has to do with how we’re holding any given moment. "It includes your viewpoint or the framework with which you are looking, as well as your values, biases, and beliefs."
In short, it’s the way we choose to see the world. Since we humans are always eager to absorb information and learn something new about our surroundings, the outlook we have on life is also shifting. Our perspective is our decision, and, like any other choice out there, it can be changed.

Whether we know it or not, our perspective is a powerful force that drives our thoughts. Depending on whether those thoughts are positive or not, they lead to a chain reaction where we decide what kind of actions we should take, and how we feel about them — content or not.
Our attitude can also alter and affect our mood. "Think of a moment where a stranger did something for you out of kindness — what kind of perspective did you bring into your next moment? You probably had a mood of buoyancy and happiness," Boys explained. "You saw the world through new, kind eyes. The opposite is true as well."
If we want to lead a fulfilling life, changing our point of view is not only beneficial but also necessary. "By holding different perspectives, we are able to see the whole. No one of us has the whole picture — we need each other's points of view to help us have empathy and compassion," the mindfulness trainer noted.

Even if we're afraid to seek out new experiences or feel discouraged to enter an unfamiliar area, we benefit from it either way. These moments help us grow as human beings, make us feel stronger and more confident in our abilities.
According to Boys, the primary way to become better at changing our perspective "is to know that a prime fallibility of humans is that we believe our own thoughts. When we don't change our perspective, we can harden into stances that limit creativity and diversity, and that hold us all back."

"Getting to know your own perspectives, and how they shift over time, will help you be more flexible and open to seeing from new viewpoints," she advised. "If this is looked at as a growth opportunity and an adaptive way to thrive in our rapidly changing world, then it may be more compelling for you to seek out new experiences that show you the world from different points of view."
Boys added: "Being flexible in our thinking is the wave of the future. Amidst a society that is fracturing under polarizing talking points, it's nuance and ambiguity that are our friends and will help us solve the world's most complex problems."

Well, one thing that fosters our never-ending wish to explore is our continuous curiosity. Best-selling author Jonathan H. Westover, Ph.D., wrote that it leads to continual growth and learning, which drives positive personal, team, and organizational results.
It’s no secret that lifelong learning is something that many strive for. If we want to become better at it, Westover suggested challenging our assumptions and checking our biases. "We need to practice regular self-reflection, surround ourselves with difference (so we don’t get trapped in an echo chamber and our ideas can be challenged) and continually ask ourselves questions to get to the core of the issues we encounter."

So on taller holly trees, the upper leaves (which are out of reach) have smooth edges, while the lower leaves are prickly.
I ALWAYS wondered why some holly was smooth and some spikey, even when I felt for sure that thing hadn’t been replanted. This is SO COOL!
Asking questions, even what may seem to be silly ones, is crucial. "We need to actively encourage our people to vocally question and challenge the status quo," he wrote. That way, we’re able to spark heated discussions, understand where other people are coming from, and broaden our knowledge of the world.
It can be hard to grasp what impact time and circumstances have on us and our surroundings. Luckily, taking the time to look at the evidence right in front of our eyes can suggest answers to even the most difficult questions and give a fresh perspective on life.

My Best Friend Has DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder Formerly Known As Multiple Personality Disorder) And Her Different Alters Have Different Writing Styles
Got her approval to post this to spread awareness.
It's fascinating, but also horrific the level of abuse that's so severe it shatters a person's personality
Load More Replies...As a person with DID, this is awesome to see awareness, not a lot of people understand DID. It's kinda sad, and in media like movies, we're often just painted as people with a psychotic, evil and murderous "split personality", when that's not the case... f**k those movies. e_e we also don't just "switch up" alters all the time (at least I don't, I'm pretty stable now thanks to medication, therapy etc, it seems certain triggers may set me off though, or sometimes it just happens randomly) .. also, speaking as someone who also happens to be Schizophrenic... SCHIZOPHRENIA IS NOT A SPLIT PERSONALITY WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP THINKING THIS ARGGHHHH
I thought I hit the genetic lottery but you Rose take the cake. I wish you well love xx
Load More Replies...DID affects 1% of the population. Bored Panda seems to have them all here.
Exactly. Just like TikTok there’s people just claiming it for clout and visibility. It’s the trend of pretending you have a disorder just to get likes. Same goes for Tourette’s and others. Hell even gender identity has become this thing to abuse for likes.
Load More Replies...Made an account just for this. We're a system and all of us have different writing styles too!
This may sound super weird but is Ash a part of your system? Apologies if not (or if that's too personal) akdjdjf
Load More Replies...That's very interesting! I wonder if they have a difference in tasting foods? For example, one can't take spice and another one is sitting there eating scotch bonnets, etc.
As someone with DID I can say for me/us is yes. My alters love spicy crackers and beer while I absolutely hate it, for example.
Load More Replies...We have DID as well and 12 alters each with diff personality and handwriting :)
That is so cool! I love learning about DID, and anything you feel comfortable with sharing, I would love to hear!
Load More Replies...I wonder is it one soul with more personalities or more souls in one person ...
DID is (to my admittedly limited understanding) a fracture in the psyche of an individual that occurs in response to significant trauma, usually at an age where the child is completely unable to process it. The alters develop as protective measures for the psyche of the child, so that that "main" personality doesn't have to experience the trauma. It can take years before the person realizes they have alters; when an alter takes over, the "main" person's consciousness goes to sleep or sonnets else, like a dream but the body is still being "driven" by an alter. So this is an interesting question, because the nature of a "soul" is so ephemeral. Does each new alter get a soul when they are "born"?
Load More Replies...That's actually Really Cool! Looking back on my assignments, I have Multiple hand writing styles too! I don't think I have DID, I think It just depended on how tired I was-😂
Same here! I write smaller or larger, more messy, block letters or cursive, depending on my physical and emotional state.
Load More Replies...Scientist are trying to figure out how DID is activated, because some personalities can have asthma, diabetes, allergies and stuff like that, while others don't have anything, proving the brain is capable of curing the body of any disease and other ailments.
You’re watching too many movies. Link to proof of that otherwise you took that from Split which is fiction. It’s literally impossible as the things you listed are biological things that won’t change simply because a coping mechanism kicks in.
Load More Replies...DID is serious but it's a fragmented personality with different personas top deal with different situations. I have it, and it's taken years of therapy to be somewhat normal.
Do all her personalities remember what she studied some might be poor students and others are better?
Okay, so recently I went to a mental hospital and another kid there was just zoning out like I do, but then snapped back in reality and quickly looked around. Turned out he has DID too. And he had different drawing skills.
Thanks to DissociaDID, I knew this! (It's a great channel, check them out!)
What was wrong with multiple personality disorder? Did those words offend someone??
I could write in different styles without did and numbers all look same. I believe DID exists but just like tourettes has become"trendy" so has that.
It's so irritating when people think this stuff is a fad . People think that DID is just a physical thing and they think tourettes is a mental disorder. Like... people are so irritating. And when I tic people are like " omg,do you have tourettes??" And when j say no they say I'm a fake. For all I know I could have it,but I haven't been diagnosed with it. People self diagnose and try to diagnose others without having the right informatin
Load More Replies...Very cool how each letter is the same shape, but has a totally different style in each handwriting sample!
DID, while very hard to deal with, is extremely interesting. So crazy how some personalities can need insulin when the original patient isn't diabetic. I am enamored with the study.
DID is very real, & very complex. ❤️ Bless her & her healing. 💗 I pray that she is SAFE, now! ❤️
Whilst I know DID is an actual disorder I feel like all I've ever read about in news articles or seen on documentaries are the times they've uncovered the people are making it all up; which I guess is a type of disorder in itself. It must be an awful disorder to live with, but I find myself quite doubtful that everyone in these comments who say they have it actually do.
I don't have DID as far as I know but my hand writing changes so much sometimes, I wondered why. Now I wonder if I have DID. weird. . .
That is so fascinating! Must be a struggle at times to deal with I bet though.
That is absolutely fascinating. I've heard people with DID can actually emit different scents when in a different personality. Just fascinating
That's actually incredible! A lot of your writing is about muscle memory, I never thought about how someone's printing would differ.
I have BPD and my writing is the same...in the it's 100% always different.it wouldn't even be possible for forge one of my own signatures
Well I kinda have this....I don't really know if it's personality but I have a different handwriting for different moods ... I dunno someone should educate me more
I’d suggest you google it. DID is very interesting and there is much to learn about it.
Load More Replies...The styles are different but she forms the letters in the same way.
What I find interesting, the 4 types seem almost deliberate. Bottom left sample seems almost left handed vs right handed, top left is cursive, top left is light, and bottom left is done hard and bigger.
I also have DID and have a journal with numerous handwriting styles.
I've never heard that the existence of this disorder has been proven. This seems like some evidence towards it though.
I consider my alters to be real in the sense that they have distinct personalities and their own likes and dislikes, but they are aspects of me and my mind, so I suppose it depends on how you want to look at it. Are they real? Yes. Are they people? I think of them as such. Do we all share the same body? Yes, so we're all the same "person".

Yogurt was soon taken off the options list when a pupil's mother, who was a dietitian, pointed out that most yogurts have the same amount of sugar as a Mars bar.
