Law, morality, and common sense aren’t always one and the same. We all have our own personal insights into what society does wrong and there’s no denying that there should (probably) be some new laws to improve everyone’s lives.

Well, Jimmy Fallon, the host of The Tonight Show, invited his followers to participate in the #ThereShouldBeALaw challenge. He asked them to tweet out their opinions about what new laws we should totally have.

We collected some of the very best responses, so scroll down, upvote the suggestions for new laws that you agree with, and remember to share them with your friends. If you have any ideas for laws yourselves, share your thoughts with everyone in the comments below.

When you’re done looking through this list, check out our previous posts about Jimmy’s challenges, including the dumbest family fights, ruining movies with one extra word, and the coldest insults they’ve gotten.

Bored Panda reached out to Abby Lampe, one of the people who responded to Jimmy Fallon and said that people who "can't use the correct use of too, to, two, and your, you're" should go to a mandatory workshop.

She believes that "a lot of people misuse homophones and although they may have been through the education system, they still have flawed grammar."

"I see it all the time throughout social media and people texting," Abby added.

"The law would be helpful for those who maybe were dropouts or didn’t take school very seriously. It would emphasize that grammar is important in today’s society and hopefully would allow them to understand the differences and how to use homophones correctly," she explained why such a law would actually be useful.

Abby told Bored Panda that she's a big fan of Jimmy's: "I’ve been in the audience and I’ve had two tweets appear on his show. I’ve been a fan for about 7 years now."

They do! Budget = maths. Household skills = homescience (cooking / sewing) + woodwork + metalwork. Feelings / philosophy etc = discussing literature in english class. At least, that's how I learned those things - because *noone* was teaching me at home, that's for sure.

I disagree, learning math is as much about learning to create a logical process as it is about solving for x. Those processes can, and should, be adapted to everyday life.

Some people don't have parents, some parents are too sick and some people have c**p parents. Some parents weren't taught because they had c**p parents et al. We do need to have a safety net for children who don't have parents doing these kinds of things - it's not their fault after all.

I honestly believe that schools should teach classes on Mental Health. Mental Health is ridiculously misunderstood, and regretably, a lot of younger people these days are self diagnosing, they think having a "split personality" or "bipolar" is simply being indecisive, or feeling different one day to the next, or they'll say they're suffering depression or something because they had a fight with a friend or something like that. Thus mental health gets a bad stigma, and is even more misunderstood... it needs to be taught about. e_e

Over 60% of people I know have attempted suicide, or self harmed. About 10 of those people got help and are doing better. There's nearly 100 people I know who at any moment could decide life isn't worth living and I would lose them and nobody would have known anything was wrong in the first place. Those who tell you they are depressed need help.

I'm really tired of people not understanding that schools teach what LEGISLATORS tell them to teach. If you don't like the curriculum, stop bitching at the school, and get in touch with your state's politicians. THEY set education policy, NOT THE SCHOOL OR THE TEACHERS. That's like saying watch for nails as you're going 65mph down the highway. Tires don't go flat just because of wear, dear. Oh, and do be careful of roadkill. I had a dead armadillo flatten a three month old tire. And yes, there was still most of the tread left.

As a high school teacher, I totally agree that we should be teaching life skills. Students are no longer learning at home money management, cooking, car maintenance, and the social skills needed to survive in the workplace. Academic classes are essential, but I wish that we could include these survival skills.

I learned how to "adult" in highschool, because I wasn't being taught anything about "life" at home. ie. (1) writing a resume. (2) writing an application letter (3) cooking (4) sewing (5) budgeting (in maths class). (6) how to study (7) opening a bank account (8) creative writing (useful within corporate work / marketing / running your own business). (9) how to research (so I can learn stuff). (10) public speaking / presentations (essential for any kind of customer service or management role). (11) reading (so I can learn stuff on my own, and not have to wait for someone to tell me). (12) history - so I understood why things have happened in the past, and how these things repeat themselves due to human nature; and to have empathy for people and their circumstances. There were also classes in accounting / business studies etc, which taught the basics of both. Oh.... and pythagoras' theorem etc DOES help if you need to do DIY / build / design. :P

You are so right. The majority of these things SHOULD be taught to children by their parents, but many many times they are not.

School is for teaching facts and giving knowledge to understand the world. The parents should spend time educating their children about practical stuffs e.g. changing a flat tire, household skills, money management, cooking - that is not principally the role of the school. Everybody has to take responsibility.

Or, here's a radical thought, parents take more responsibility. They should be the primary educators of their children. I'm not talking reading/writing etc., I'm talking about all the other stuff that teachers are now forced to teach, because parents are too busy or lazy to raise the children they chose to have. E.g. Should primary educators cut into their already crowded curriculum to teach kids how to tie their shoes, or is this a parental responsibility?

Bored Panda also spoke with Jesser who explained how there should be a law against using the same knife for peanut butter and jelly when making a sandwich.

According to the Twitter user, their family inspired them to come up with this law and they hope that this new law would teach people better manners and etiquette.

Jesser revealed that they're a fan of Jimmy's as well. "I rarely watched The Tonight Show before Jimmy Fallon was the host. He's fantastic!"

A lot of the things that people tweeted about in response to Jimmy’s challenge have to do with common sense. And you’re probably sick and tired of hearing this, but it’s applicable here: common sense is not common.

According to Dr. Jim Taylor on Psychology Today, common sense is one of the most “revered” qualities in the United States. Unfortunately, not a lot of people are as down to earth and practical as we might expect.

Taylor explains that if common sense were common, most people wouldn’t make the silly mistakes that they do every single day of their lives. In his opinion, if people had common sense, they wouldn’t “buy stuff they can’t afford.”

What’s more, they “wouldn’t smoke cigarettes or eat junk food.” In Taylor’s view, common sense is limited by our personal experience which can lead to bad decisions. In other words, for common sense to be common, we all need more education and worldly experience.

But what about morality not always being the same as the law? According to Dr. Eva Tsahuridu, the law “sets minimum standards of behavior while ethics set maximum standards.” That’s why something that’s legal doesn’t necessarily mean that we see it as acceptable or ‘good.’ It also works the other way, too: something that we consider to be ‘good’ doesn’t always become law. There’s an overlap between the two, sure, but they’re not one and the same.

However, that doesn’t mean that laws are useless. In fact, they’re vital for preserving civilization and allowing society to function. But it’s important to keep in mind that laws are very specific while morality is concerned with doing the right thing in life as a whole.

I actually didn't realize until recently how huge of a problem this is. This is a documentary I bumped into not too long ago, and it angered me beyond belief. This couple blatantly admitted having children so they could be taken care of. It's one thing when nature takes its course, and something happens where a parent needs constant care. It's a whole nother ballgame when parents have children only to have someone to take care of them. So angering. https://youtu.be/wzJDpEzpQug
