Share on FacebookThe Prequels really were the downfall of Star Wars. Let's start with the Jedi, the Prequels made the Jedi into something narrow, ugly and authoritarian. They are elitist religious nutjobs with swords and a license to kill from their government. They don't get a warrant to arrest Darth Maul to give him a trial. They attack Darth Maul because he's a force-user not adhering to their rules. The Jedi Council wouldn't train Anakin because he's nine. Which begs the question what they do with force-users who come to them too late. Clearly they can't be allowed to become Sith....What would make Qui-Gon Jin think the boy was safer in midst of a battle than at the temple? That's speculation, of course.
And then let's talk about Anakin. Anakin the boy had terrible dialogue and a really, really awkward age difference between his "love interest" and himself. He says things which are just awkward, unnatural and feel really inauthentic. The actor looks uncomfortable in the role, and you can see it. Anakin the man....I loathe. What should have been amazing, the Messiah Jedi at the peak of his prime, you get a petulant, whiny little man with more awkward dialogue and bouts of irrational anger. He falls in love because the plot needs him to. "turns bad" because plot needs him to.
