If you think that Blockbuster stores are dead after Netflix killed it with mail-order service, think again! "The Last Blockbuster" is alive and is making the whole Internet laugh with their funny tweets.
"The Blockbuster twitter account is actually run by a few of us at the store. We’re a small operation, so we take turns running social media, working the registers, and cleaning out the return drop box. A lot of people seem to think it’s a trash receptacle even though we taped up a sign that says it’s for movies and games only," "The Last Blockbuster" revealed in an interview to The Daily Dot.
"It feels special to be the last remaining store of a such a culturally important franchise. But sometimes it feels like we’re the only ones who give a shit about watching films the way they were meant to be watched: on pieces of round plastic, slid into a machine that connects to your home television set."
According to one of their tweets, "The Last Blockbuster" is located "in the Oak Park Shopping Center between Ace Hardware and the former O'Kelly Dojo." The hugely popular funny Twitter account already has more than 169K followers, but it's not entirely clear whether they exist or it is just a parody account.

There is actually four left. I just saw one in Bend OR. It was like a time machine.
Don't be so hard on yourself Blockbuster you're perfect just the way you are
Last weekend I rented a DVD and the last person didn't even bother to rewind it.. 😑
Please come back! The Mattress Firm that is now in y'all's place has to have something illegal going on. There's no way mattresses get bought enough that they can have three stores on the same street (not even a state road).
I know the feeling Blockbuster. I own some wooded property, and people LOVE to smoke weed and get drunk. Four people have drowned form trying to swim while drunk...
You should go out there, confront them, and then get high with them.
Load More Replies...Man how I miss this! Being able to actually peruse for a movie, and asking for recommendations or thoughts on a particular film. We had one right next door to my job and their wacky Wednesday special, 3 for $5 couldn't be beat.
MARISA GET A JOB IN AN ANOTHER HOTEL I looked this up for you, people.
Who would throw out his VCR? In a few years they'll make their big return in the next retro hype.
I still have my bright yellow tee that I believe was for Blockbuster Online
Lunch is on Colleen! Go ahead and take an extra half hour, no one will notice.
And that's all we can ask for. (I mean, besides popcorn.) You keep being yourself, Blockbuster!
And you get a free popcorn for being a great employee, and you get the jujubees for being a great employee... Oh, just the two of you, okay. I will keep the Raisinettes.
I still use The family VCR despite being a Teenager. Pity i live in england.
You're missing the Buddhists, and Wiccans, and agnostics.. and Muslims. But that is socially acceptable these days.
Like it or not, technology continues to advance, come rain or shine. What was cutting edge 20ya is now obsolete. And if you think things are changing too quickly now, just imagine what another 20 years from now will show. Big Box Stores, Watch Out! ;O
This is so sad for me because a blockbuster near my house is closing soon and my uncle works there :(
Jasmine, at just 13, you will be witnessing things later in life, that would be mind boggling to you now. Get a good look at today's society, and remember it well. It will be something you can tell your grandchildren when they reach your current age. Seriously. ;D
Load More Replies...Whoever put this person in charge of that Twitter account made a great decision, The guy's sense of humor is on point!
You mean "whoever created that joke account". This isn't actually done by Blockbuster...
Load More Replies...I feel so sad that blockbuster closed ): It makes me so nostalgic. Every Friday my family would have "Pizza Friday" and we would get a movie from blockbuster and order pizza! I remember getting the gumballs in the machine. uuGHHHH I MISS YOU BLOCKBUSTER!!
There's still two movie shops open in my little city and one of them is a blockbuster!
Used to be like Christmas getting to go to the video store and get like 7 weekly's for $2
There was once a Blockbuster in my hometown. I actually bought a few games from them before they went out of business. Not just rented; bought! It was frankly upsetting seeing the building get replaced with a Verizon store and a Western Union.
I don't understand why they closed, because it's true that there is competition but it seems like and entire store filled with a lot more movies could beat that, plus they sell candy so that's a bonus. Oh wait, I guess if everyone is lazy then they will ignore the fact that there is a Blockbuster just because you have to actually get up and leave your house to do that
LP, they did so because of economics. If a store, or business, cannot compete on the market and make a 'net' profit for its share holders, it can not remain in business. Its pure economics, and changing times. This has been forecast for well over two decades now, and many refused to see what the Internet was about to do. Wal-Mart was one of the few big box stores that took steps to become more efficient and use the internet/IT to its advantage. You need to take a course in basic economics so as to understand this better.

Blockbuster had the chance to but Netflix when it first started out and they missed out bug time and basically killed themselves.
There are still quite a few Blockbusters around. http://www.blockbuster.com/franchise.html
There are several Blockbusters still around. :) http://www.blockbuster.com/franchise.html
Sorry i know change is going to happen but it isn't always good, in the last 20 so years change has driven us to do less socializing (stream movies instead of going to the movies, shopping online instead of getting off your fat butt) i don't think its good where we are going
