Hey, I’m Sophia. I’m still in school, so you might not think of me as much. But, I have been ‘studying’ parents since 4th grade, and I’ve finally started to take charge.

I’ve noticed that parents will most likely be confused on a child’s behavior, or they just ignore their children. I know it’s hard to punish kids, because you want to give them candy, you want to tell them the drawing on the wall is beautiful, just to see them smile.

You should never ignore your child. She/he is important, you can not neglect them. Neglecting children can lead to depression, and/or they will begin thinking their parents don’t care about them.

Some ways to include your child(ren) are

-Talk to them at dinner. If you do talk to them, they are going to believe you want to know what’s been going on.

-Read to them before bed. Reading for older kids might seem stupid, but go to the library together and pick out books you and your child(ren) can have fun with. Harry Potter is always a safe bet and a good read, since the books are big and there are multiple.

-Get a shared diary. Encourage your child(ren) to write how they feel in a diary. It’s always very helpful, because diaries always listen. If you want to do a shared diary, write how you feel (and maybe whats been going on) and have your child also read and write in the same one, so you know why they might be acting a certain way.

-Have a one-on-one conversation. Being face-to-face with your child is the best way to talk to them. You can see their face, and really get the juice of what’s going on, since writing in a diary might get boring or tiring.

You need to make sure you connect with your child. Even if they hate you, deep inside they know (well, they should know) you love and care for them. All children should be able to have the feeling of love and care, and only you can give them the feeling.
