There are always people who think they deserve more than everybody else. They constantly ask for a discount, try to gorge on more freebies than they can carry, never tip, and always try to get things for free. And there’s a specially dedicated place for them called “Choosing Beggars,” a 2.2M-strong subreddit that collects the most hilariously embarrassing cases.
And you may think that Thanksgiving, a national holiday which essentially encapsulates the word and the meaning giving, would stop them. Well, not really. Apparently, the festivity may as well serve as a perfect opportunity to have all its perks without putting in all the effort or losing a dime.
So this time we collected some of the most crazy examples of beggars in action: Thanksgiving edition. After you’re done, be sure to check out our previous posts with people whose ego and entitlement is too big for this tiny world here, here and here.

“Volunteer To Wait On My Family At Thanksgiving”
Great. She can do the same for me when I need my 5 indoor kitties fed, watered and poopy-scooped twice a day for a week while I'm at my family reunion. Oh, wait. Where'd she go?
Invite Us To Your Thanksgiving! But Only If You Have These Things And We Will Only Bring Dessert. Tia
This Thanksgiving may have been the most expensive one for the host so far. How come? Well, it turns out that agricultural economists, farmers and grocery executives predicted that nearly every component of the traditional American Thanksgiving dinner, from the disposable aluminum turkey roasting pan to the coffee and pie, come at a higher price this year.
Interestingly, last year, the cost of a Thanksgiving dinner for 10 was the lowest it had been since 2010, the American Farm Bureau reported. So what on earth has happened? Turns out that last year, during the height of the pandemic, everyone was laying low with celebrations, and very few people were buying groceries for big gatherings. Grocery sellers were keeping the prices of the Thanksgiving staple—turkey—pretty low to attract the shoppers.

Giving Your Church A One Star Review For Giving You A Free Turkey
Sounds like they ruined their own Thanksgiving by expecting too much
Hahaha, you summed it up in a few words!
Load More Replies...These people are trying to give you a good holiday out of the kindness in the hearts and you have the audacity to say this?!
No, this is the attitude of many people. I knew of a family who went to 5 churches to get free turkeys & fixings ( both had full time jobs). She actually complained about the quality of the food and said they would probably throw in the trash about 1/2 of it. Last time I had anything to do with them and actually dumped a friend who defended that attitude and action. ( found out later several of the men in the family are child sex offenders, others are child abusers and the rest prison guards. Disgusting

All turkeys STINK. I know this because I used to high speed debone the rotten things
Posts like these, I’m always conflicted; do I upvote or downvote this??
Hoping this is a joke, but if the donation turkey is spoiled, that is horrible. Additionally, by car doesn't mean your own. May have needed taxi, Uber, or friend. If you don't have a lot and are hoping for one day of solace, these details can be important. Just because you're poor doesn't mean you should be happy to eat shite.
That is absolutely true, and if that turkey really did smell bad, as opposed to just smelling like a freezer, (because I'm sure it was still frozen, I've never seen anything but frozen turkeys handed out) then that is something to be upset about. Not getting a pie, or not having it look "like the picture" is not. Churches, food banks, charities of all kinds, are stretched very thin right now. Not having in person services and in person fundraisers because of the pandemic has hit them hard too, but they are doing their best to still provide people with Thanksgiving dinners, and presents for Christmas, and all of the things that make the holidays normal for families.
Load More Replies...I'm not a fan of Churches but this person is SO ignorant! Also, the fact they were "ruined" before and went back again?
OMGGGGG you guys did something nice for the community,,,,, you all suck
My question is, if it's ruined "again" (irrespective of the RIDICULOUS nature of their "outrage"), why did they come back after FIRST alleged "holiday ruination"? Fool me once, shame on you, fool me TWICE, shame on me 🤷♀️🤣🤣
The free dinners to help the poor are a privilege, not supposed to be for the privileged. Anyone who would give a church dinner 1* for not having dessert or being a ten course meal should cook their own and leave the donated food for someone who can't afford to feed their family. Disgusting.
By expecting ANYTHING. People have forgotten how to be grateful.
Geesh. Thankful much? Where's the appreciation? Sounds like you ruined your own Thanksgiving with your miserable attitude and self entitlement.
If the turkey was off, I would have either called the place hosting the giveaway, or turned right back around to bring it back to prevent someone from getting sick. But this wasn't about that. On the other hand, I'd like to remind people that when they are donating food it is *NOT* about getting rid of the stuff you wouldn't eat yourself, or cleaning out your cupboards. The goal is about helping others get the foods they need. If you'd like to contribute, please do so, and if what you have is the money, then please consider giving the money itself to the food bank; they know how to stretch that money to help the most people. You don't have to spend a lot to help, and if you're unable to donate then that's that and there's no reason to feel badly about it. Everyone should be able to eat. But if you can maybe buy an extra thing each time you shop (like, a box of oatmeal or a can of vegetables or a box of pasta) do so,and remember to donate it as soon as you can. Thank you.
I know Christians are supposed to be charitable, to show the other cheek, etc... But can't we just consider punching those ungrateful bastards as a lesson ?
Maybe they should consider showing up for than more Easter, Christmas or the ultimate "Come to Jesus Moments" stuck in prison for the next 20 years. So basically they were more deserving than others. I guess Jesus disagreed. So did Dad I would plan an wearing an orange vest instead of a halo as you are sent to heaven to clean up or keep it the way your dreams see it. You're in for a surprise. Every excuse ever has been heard......dog ate my homework, I had to kill him, she made me so made I had to show her who's in charge.....I deserve a free Turkey. Got up early and so I might have cut somebody off to be fourth. Better go get a taco or something.
This is how rude and disrespectful society has become.... so sad.
Beggars can't be choosers but the beggars these days act like we should be handing everything to them on a silver platter with a smile on our faces. People like this should not receive handouts.
If you have no other means of having a Thanksgiving (I know it's a real challenge for a lot of folks to imagine actually being that poor) and they advertised a full meal and all you got was a smelly turkey, this would be a huge disappointment.. Especially if you had young children.
That sounds just like my aunt and uncle and one of my cousins would do(they go to church to church begging when they have food stamps, WIC, disability checks, retirement checks and marital checks from an exhusband... They will also dumpster hop and go to food banks.) They would complain if they don't get things that they wanted and tries to give my parents the out of date stuff when they was temporary living with us until my mom got sick of their lying and kicked em out. My aunt who's in her late 60s had the nerve of stealing my 13yr olds hoodie when my mom kicked em out this past Tuesday.(they were moochers and freeloaders didn't help with the bills just gave my parents expired food from churches and pantries)
The Thanksgiving that you would not have had otherwise? Oh yes. Shame on them, ruining the thanksgiving.
isn't that the whole point of f'n thanksgiving... to be thankful for what you have, no?
I was part of a food co-op. Small fee and a few hours, food was shared. The people who put in the hours knew how hard it was to go all over, glean, get all the food together. A small number would complain ( this yogurt is expiring ) , cheat ( no I didn't get my one pie ) etc. Sad
There's a special spot in H*** for this person. Good luck explaining this post to the Big Guy upstairs!
Beggars can’t be choosers. I repeat BEGGERS CANT BE CHOOSERS (Check my spelling) TIA
But. .... do we really think second (or third) best is okay for poor persons ? For a free dinner on this special occasion I think we should show respect to those less fortunate by giving our best ....not an "anything is better than they have" attitude. I don't like the complaining but I hate what they were offered....
I have found that giving things away for free brings out the worst and the most entitled of people. It's free. People don't have to give it to you, and you don't deserve jack s**t. Offer something small to people be for free, and they think they are entitled to the moon, your first born child, and all the money in your wallet.
"Thank you all for spending time away from your families to help others." That is what it should have said.
WOW! It was free. I'm sure there are many people who would loved to have had this meal
And isn't the food from the churches also donated? So they are upset at the church for what others donated, etc. They made the choice to go get free food, then complain. They just need to stay home.
Perhaps the free offering was intended for people who needed and appreciated the meal, not an entitled jerk who was more concerned with what he Didn't get, than what he received. If businesses can ban people, why not charities?
well bitch if your feel that way then buy your own damn turkey =-= its people like this that ruin it for people who actually need this
Maybe get a job and buy your own. Then you can stop complaining about the FREE food your getting.
I served at homeless shelters where this was the same attitude. Ppl feeling entitled and complaining that their free chicken leg wasnt big enough

But after the global vaccination, the world has opened up and big gatherings resumed as if they had never stopped. So did the demand for turkey and other foods, whose prices have been soaring rapidly this past year.
The New York Times suggests that we shouldn’t look for a single culprit to explain the phenomenon. According to them, the nation’s food supply has been battered by a knotted supply chain, high transportation expenses, labor shortages, trade policies and bad weather. Inflation is at play, too.
A Thanksgiving Choosing Beggar Who Thinks Meals Should Be Free
I don't see a problem with this? If she's no takers, then no one with $15 is interested. But I bet there are people that can swing for that amount that can't or don't want to cook their own dinner. She's not expecting homeless people to buy it.

“Name Brand Only” Thanksgiving
Numbers also speak for themselves. The Consumer Price Index for food was up 4.6 percent from a year ago in September, while the prices for meat, poultry, fish and eggs soared a whopping 10.5 percent. For those wondering what’s up with the sky-high turkey prices, it may have to do with the fact that the price of corn, which most commercial turkeys feed on, more than doubled in some parts of the country from July 2020 to July 2021.
The Department of Agriculture turkey report released on Friday has also stated that whole frozen birds already cost 25 cents/pound more than they did a year ago. With much bigger holiday celebrations than last year, the demand for festive foods is likely not going anywhere, so there’s a slim chance you’ll get your hands on a turkey bargain.

I came here expecting gold and free cars and a Turkey, and all I got was LEFTOVERS. You ruined my children's lives with your shitty charity. For shame (It's sarcasm but that was still painful to even write!)
Leftovers and reposts! Just terrible, I tell you. I was just thinking this. It was never this bad, before 2000 ish? Not sure. But how did it get so bad? People don't get their way, and they won't budge. Or if someone won't give in, that person is automatically selfish and the cause of problems where others suffer. I really am curious as to why this is so bad. Sure, some people were never told 'no'. Some people just don't stand up to these people, so their behavior is basically enabled. But why else? If this wasn't a big issue before, how and why is it so bad? I want to understand what happened. (Sorry for the rant)

I'm so glad my country doesn't have any thanksgiving-like holiday, even christmas with just parents and one of my sisters is a bit chaotic.. Couldn't imagine whole family x.x

I can't imagine the scale of Thanksgiving in the US. Can you not just... miss one year if you can't afford it? Does it have to be a gigantic meal with turkey and trimmings? Can't you just get together with family over a few beers, or just chill at home?
Dodo, I agree. For my family (me, my husband and son), we spend a relaxed day at home and never have the huge turkey dinner that seems traditional. It seems a dubious holiday, at best. We spend a moment sharing what each of us is grateful for. That seems a better way to spend the day.

Wow, just wow. We don’t have Thanksgiving here, but just like Christmas, isn’t the company you have more important than the food? Yeah, it’s nice to have a fancy meal, but it’s not the be all and end all of an occasion. We have extended family Christmas and we take turns hosting it, but everyone pitches in and brings food or drinks. Honestly, I wouldn’t care if it was eating bread and butter as long as I was with those I loved
These people are very messed up in the head, surely they have a lot of mental and emotional problems and obviously we not raised right. Sounds awful to be them. They probably don't even understand why no one wants to be around them. Many probably only think of themselves because they've been in survival mode all their life. And done of them might literally be sociopaths, there's that too. But honestly I just feel bad for them.
When did it become something to be proud of that you are a beggar? I was raised that you should be happy/ proud when you can help others less fortunate. And if you are on the needing end, you ask quietly and work your ass off to get out of that situation. I still find the thought of bankruptcy humiliating ( it equals failure).
I can't truly grasp the audacity in these people. If you can call them that. When someone extends kindness, either accept with gratitude or decline with grace. Never ever believe others owe it to you. If growing up poor has thought me anything, it's okay to be lacking in material things as long as your dignity is in tact.
