There are always people who think they deserve more than everybody else. They constantly ask for a discount, try to gorge on more freebies than they can carry, never tip, and always try to get things for free. And there’s a specially dedicated place for them called “Choosing Beggars,” a 2.2M-strong subreddit that collects the most hilariously embarrassing cases.

And you may think that Thanksgiving, a national holiday which essentially encapsulates the word and the meaning giving, would stop them. Well, not really. Apparently, the festivity may as well serve as a perfect opportunity to have all its perks without putting in all the effort or losing a dime.

So this time we collected some of the most crazy examples of beggars in action: Thanksgiving edition. After you’re done, be sure to check out our previous posts with people whose ego and entitlement is too big for this tiny world here, here and here.

Invite Us To Your Thanksgiving! But Only If You Have These Things And We Will Only Bring Dessert. Tia

Invite Us To Your Thanksgiving! But Only If You Have These Things And We Will Only Bring Dessert. Tia

okimadeone Report

This Thanksgiving may have been the most expensive one for the host so far. How come? Well, it turns out that agricultural economists, farmers and grocery executives predicted that nearly every component of the traditional American Thanksgiving dinner, from the disposable aluminum turkey roasting pan to the coffee and pie, come at a higher price this year.

Interestingly, last year, the cost of a Thanksgiving dinner for 10 was the lowest it had been since 2010, the American Farm Bureau reported. So what on earth has happened? Turns out that last year, during the height of the pandemic, everyone was laying low with celebrations, and very few people were buying groceries for big gatherings. Grocery sellers were keeping the prices of the Thanksgiving staple—turkey—pretty low to attract the shoppers.

But after the global vaccination, the world has opened up and big gatherings resumed as if they had never stopped. So did the demand for turkey and other foods, whose prices have been soaring rapidly this past year.

The New York Times suggests that we shouldn’t look for a single culprit to explain the phenomenon. According to them, the nation’s food supply has been battered by a knotted supply chain, high transportation expenses, labor shortages, trade policies and bad weather. Inflation is at play, too.

I don't see a problem with this? If she's no takers, then no one with $15 is interested. But I bet there are people that can swing for that amount that can't or don't want to cook their own dinner. She's not expecting homeless people to buy it.

Numbers also speak for themselves. The Consumer Price Index for food was up 4.6 percent from a year ago in September, while the prices for meat, poultry, fish and eggs soared a whopping 10.5 percent. For those wondering what’s up with the sky-high turkey prices, it may have to do with the fact that the price of corn, which most commercial turkeys feed on, more than doubled in some parts of the country from July 2020 to July 2021.

The Department of Agriculture turkey report released on Friday has also stated that whole frozen birds already cost 25 cents/pound more than they did a year ago. With much bigger holiday celebrations than last year, the demand for festive foods is likely not going anywhere, so there’s a slim chance you’ll get your hands on a turkey bargain.

I don't see anything wrong with this. If you don't ask, you don't get. She listed what she normally has, and there will be people out there who may want to provide or have spare.

It's when people have very specific, picky demands that O start scowling. Gotta have Velveeta mac n cheese? And five loaves of bread? Come on, son.

....I don't understand why this is on the list. She's just asking for the items so she can make her usual Thanksgiving. She specifically stated she's not asking for money and she even offers to pick the items up. This is literally the opposite of a choosey beggar. This is just someone (very reasonably) asking for help.

I agree, and I would have gotten her some of the things...even the velveeta. I think she's not very educated, and just wants to give her children the food they look forward to on Thanksgiving.

I don't believe this should be on this list. The person isn't acting entitled. All they are doing is throwing it out there that yhey need help. There's a HUGE difference between asking for help and acting entitled. It's unfortunate that some people can't tell the difference.

I'm not sure what the issue with this post. She asked for a turkey or ham and IF POSSIBLE trimmings. I appreciate that she was specific. People need different things depending on circumstances. The five loaves of bread could easily be for the leftover turkey sandwiches.

Seriously. A lot of these posts are hammering on people who are in dire circumstances. Some with clear mental issues too. If there's any entitlement on show, it's too often that of luckier people's expectation that those in need are polite and grateful.

They each eat an entire loaf of bread with dinner? Sorry, but idc if this is what she usually makes and is used to having. When you're asking people for free food, you don't dictate like this. And then you teach your children how to appreciate what they get when people are kind enough to help.

And that's why we have a thing called: Soup Kitchens Back in 2012 my husband at the time and our 2 kids couldn't afford Thanksgiving supper so we went to the local Soup Kitchen and had our Thanksgiving supper.(my husband lost his job and was in the process of getting unemployment right before that Thanksgiving. We had no food stamps left due to feeding 5 extra ppl that we took in so they wouldn't have to sleep in their car. The family was the ones who caused my husband to lose his job. If they didn't had 3 small kids we would had never let em move in with us to start with.). No we didn't live in the city at the time, we basically were in the country but luckily there was a church that had a soup kitchen at an old alternative school that had hot meals for supper.

Yeah, but not everywhere has them- which is super unfortunate. My mom and I regularly ate at soup kitchen when I was growing up in the city. We eventually moved out to a rural area, and they didn't have anything like that there.

This wasn't choosy or rude! When i moved into a studio apartment on my own with my daughter, leaving an abusive relationship, i posted online asking for a bed, a couch, a table or anything anyone could spare from their basement or garage. People were very generous and i was able to furnish my apartment the first day, even a 32" tv with a vcr and some children's movies. Now that i have a stable home I'm able to pay it forward.

Situations change, the fact they have four kids and are struggling this year isn't the thing. The fact that they feel owed a thanksgiving dinner and can dictate what would be in it is more annoying. But it doesn't read as highly entitled to me, just hopeful.

It's a kind of mac & cheese that does not need milk or butter...she's probably requesting that because she can't afford either of those things. If someone donates a different kind and no milk or butter, it would be useless. We used always include ONLY that kind in Thanksgiving baskets for that exact reason.

There was a period of time that we were out of work when our four kids were all under school age. We were on foodstamps, but we really couldn't afford a turkey or a nice ham. One of the grocery stores did a deal where if you spent so much every week for the month leading up to Thanksgiving, you got a free turkey, so I adjusted my shopping to spread out between the weeks and got the free turkey. There's more than one way to earn food when you're poor. There's almost always food banks and programs doing free Thanksgiving meals, too, but you have to put in the effort to sign up or go fetch it or whatever.

Probably to utilize leftovers, and make the meal last for a week or more. Those sandwiches might be the only food that family will have for a while. Also, bread can be frozen for later use.
