There are always people who think they deserve more than everybody else. They constantly ask for a discount, try to gorge on more freebies than they can carry, never tip, and always try to get things for free. And there’s a specially dedicated place for them called “Choosing Beggars,” a 2.2M-strong subreddit that collects the most hilariously embarrassing cases.
And you may think that Thanksgiving, a national holiday which essentially encapsulates the word and the meaning giving, would stop them. Well, not really. Apparently, the festivity may as well serve as a perfect opportunity to have all its perks without putting in all the effort or losing a dime.
So this time we collected some of the most crazy examples of beggars in action: Thanksgiving edition. After you’re done, be sure to check out our previous posts with people whose ego and entitlement is too big for this tiny world here, here and here.

“Volunteer To Wait On My Family At Thanksgiving”
Great. She can do the same for me when I need my 5 indoor kitties fed, watered and poopy-scooped twice a day for a week while I'm at my family reunion. Oh, wait. Where'd she go?
Invite Us To Your Thanksgiving! But Only If You Have These Things And We Will Only Bring Dessert. Tia
This Thanksgiving may have been the most expensive one for the host so far. How come? Well, it turns out that agricultural economists, farmers and grocery executives predicted that nearly every component of the traditional American Thanksgiving dinner, from the disposable aluminum turkey roasting pan to the coffee and pie, come at a higher price this year.
Interestingly, last year, the cost of a Thanksgiving dinner for 10 was the lowest it had been since 2010, the American Farm Bureau reported. So what on earth has happened? Turns out that last year, during the height of the pandemic, everyone was laying low with celebrations, and very few people were buying groceries for big gatherings. Grocery sellers were keeping the prices of the Thanksgiving staple—turkey—pretty low to attract the shoppers.

But after the global vaccination, the world has opened up and big gatherings resumed as if they had never stopped. So did the demand for turkey and other foods, whose prices have been soaring rapidly this past year.
The New York Times suggests that we shouldn’t look for a single culprit to explain the phenomenon. According to them, the nation’s food supply has been battered by a knotted supply chain, high transportation expenses, labor shortages, trade policies and bad weather. Inflation is at play, too.
A Thanksgiving Choosing Beggar Who Thinks Meals Should Be Free
I don't see a problem with this? If she's no takers, then no one with $15 is interested. But I bet there are people that can swing for that amount that can't or don't want to cook their own dinner. She's not expecting homeless people to buy it.

Numbers also speak for themselves. The Consumer Price Index for food was up 4.6 percent from a year ago in September, while the prices for meat, poultry, fish and eggs soared a whopping 10.5 percent. For those wondering what’s up with the sky-high turkey prices, it may have to do with the fact that the price of corn, which most commercial turkeys feed on, more than doubled in some parts of the country from July 2020 to July 2021.
The Department of Agriculture turkey report released on Friday has also stated that whole frozen birds already cost 25 cents/pound more than they did a year ago. With much bigger holiday celebrations than last year, the demand for festive foods is likely not going anywhere, so there’s a slim chance you’ll get your hands on a turkey bargain.

Local Choosing Beggar Asks For Entire Thanksgiving Dinner For Free
I don't see anything wrong with this. If you don't ask, you don't get. She listed what she normally has, and there will be people out there who may want to provide or have spare.
It's when people have very specific, picky demands that O start scowling. Gotta have Velveeta mac n cheese? And five loaves of bread? Come on, son.
Load More Replies.......I don't understand why this is on the list. She's just asking for the items so she can make her usual Thanksgiving. She specifically stated she's not asking for money and she even offers to pick the items up. This is literally the opposite of a choosey beggar. This is just someone (very reasonably) asking for help.
I agree, and I would have gotten her some of the things...even the velveeta. I think she's not very educated, and just wants to give her children the food they look forward to on Thanksgiving.
Load More Replies...I don't believe this should be on this list. The person isn't acting entitled. All they are doing is throwing it out there that yhey need help. There's a HUGE difference between asking for help and acting entitled. It's unfortunate that some people can't tell the difference.
I'm not sure what the issue with this post. She asked for a turkey or ham and IF POSSIBLE trimmings. I appreciate that she was specific. People need different things depending on circumstances. The five loaves of bread could easily be for the leftover turkey sandwiches.
That is what I thought. The bread is for stuffing and leftovers.
Load More Replies...She didn't say "Please," but was very courteous and expressed consideration. I would've helped.
I mean they said thank you in their post? Yeah they're asking for a lot but they got a big family, i dont see this one as too bad though.
This should not be on here. This is a person in need humbly asking for help.
NO problem with this. She's asking, not demanding, and sometimes ... life is hard.
Seriously. A lot of these posts are hammering on people who are in dire circumstances. Some with clear mental issues too. If there's any entitlement on show, it's too often that of luckier people's expectation that those in need are polite and grateful.
They each eat an entire loaf of bread with dinner? Sorry, but idc if this is what she usually makes and is used to having. When you're asking people for free food, you don't dictate like this. And then you teach your children how to appreciate what they get when people are kind enough to help.
I'm guessing the bread was to make the stuffing from scratch. I don't think this post was unreasonable, you never know unless you ask.
Load More Replies...And that's why we have a thing called: Soup Kitchens Back in 2012 my husband at the time and our 2 kids couldn't afford Thanksgiving supper so we went to the local Soup Kitchen and had our Thanksgiving supper.(my husband lost his job and was in the process of getting unemployment right before that Thanksgiving. We had no food stamps left due to feeding 5 extra ppl that we took in so they wouldn't have to sleep in their car. The family was the ones who caused my husband to lose his job. If they didn't had 3 small kids we would had never let em move in with us to start with.). No we didn't live in the city at the time, we basically were in the country but luckily there was a church that had a soup kitchen at an old alternative school that had hot meals for supper.
Yeah, but not everywhere has them- which is super unfortunate. My mom and I regularly ate at soup kitchen when I was growing up in the city. We eventually moved out to a rural area, and they didn't have anything like that there.
Load More Replies...This wasn't choosy or rude! When i moved into a studio apartment on my own with my daughter, leaving an abusive relationship, i posted online asking for a bed, a couch, a table or anything anyone could spare from their basement or garage. People were very generous and i was able to furnish my apartment the first day, even a 32" tv with a vcr and some children's movies. Now that i have a stable home I'm able to pay it forward.
Situations change, the fact they have four kids and are struggling this year isn't the thing. The fact that they feel owed a thanksgiving dinner and can dictate what would be in it is more annoying. But it doesn't read as highly entitled to me, just hopeful.
Load More Replies...That's not really an unreasonable ask. Maybe a lot of bread, but other than that I genuinely hope people help her out.
OP: Yes sir, I do need patatoes............People like me: Ok *pats a toe*
my god, this whole thread sux! people are total axxholes and dont get all huffy cause i sound like a scrooge......people need to help themselves too instead of just being a total deadbeat....
It's a kind of mac & cheese that does not need milk or butter...she's probably requesting that because she can't afford either of those things. If someone donates a different kind and no milk or butter, it would be useless. We used always include ONLY that kind in Thanksgiving baskets for that exact reason.
Load More Replies...Apparently you've never lived in an extremely rural area where that type of situation isn't available.
Load More Replies...Probably to utilize leftovers, and make the meal last for a week or more. Those sandwiches might be the only food that family will have for a while. Also, bread can be frozen for later use.

I was just thinking this. It was never this bad, before 2000 ish? Not sure. But how did it get so bad? People don't get their way, and they won't budge. Or if someone won't give in, that person is automatically selfish and the cause of problems where others suffer. I really am curious as to why this is so bad. Sure, some people were never told 'no'. Some people just don't stand up to these people, so their behavior is basically enabled. But why else? If this wasn't a big issue before, how and why is it so bad? I want to understand what happened. (Sorry for the rant)
Load More Replies...This is about the 7th post this week where people can share how horrible their friends and family are on Thanksgiving. Does BP have any new ideas?
I wish they'd instead share the ways people went out of their way to care for each other or were in the giving spirit this year. Enough of the cynical crap.

I'm so glad my country doesn't have any thanksgiving-like holiday, even christmas with just parents and one of my sisters is a bit chaotic.. Couldn't imagine whole family x.x

I can't imagine the scale of Thanksgiving in the US. Can you not just... miss one year if you can't afford it? Does it have to be a gigantic meal with turkey and trimmings? Can't you just get together with family over a few beers, or just chill at home?
Dodo, I agree. For my family (me, my husband and son), we spend a relaxed day at home and never have the huge turkey dinner that seems traditional. It seems a dubious holiday, at best. We spend a moment sharing what each of us is grateful for. That seems a better way to spend the day.
Load More Replies...Yep. This is the world we live in. People don't get taught the difference between right and wrong anymore; Only "What is in it for me and my immediate gratification"
Wow, just wow. We don’t have Thanksgiving here, but just like Christmas, isn’t the company you have more important than the food? Yeah, it’s nice to have a fancy meal, but it’s not the be all and end all of an occasion. We have extended family Christmas and we take turns hosting it, but everyone pitches in and brings food or drinks. Honestly, I wouldn’t care if it was eating bread and butter as long as I was with those I loved
These people are very messed up in the head, surely they have a lot of mental and emotional problems and obviously we not raised right. Sounds awful to be them. They probably don't even understand why no one wants to be around them. Many probably only think of themselves because they've been in survival mode all their life. And done of them might literally be sociopaths, there's that too. But honestly I just feel bad for them.
When did it become something to be proud of that you are a beggar? I was raised that you should be happy/ proud when you can help others less fortunate. And if you are on the needing end, you ask quietly and work your ass off to get out of that situation. I still find the thought of bankruptcy humiliating ( it equals failure).
I can't truly grasp the audacity in these people. If you can call them that. When someone extends kindness, either accept with gratitude or decline with grace. Never ever believe others owe it to you. If growing up poor has thought me anything, it's okay to be lacking in material things as long as your dignity is in tact.
Most of this list was just Board Panda and Pandas shaming poor people and non native speakers. Really disappointed and disgusting right now.
it DEFINITELY does. It's just a lot more public and focused in America.
