Tesla, World’s Most Innovative Car, Leaves The Most Absurd Flaw In Their Design That Leaves Your Trunk All Wet

Tesla, Inc. is an American company based in Palo Alto, California that specializes in electric car manufacturing and through its SolarCity subsidiary, solar panel manufacturing. As of this year, Tesla sells Model S, Model X, and Model 3 cars. Now, over the course of the years, the company has been accused many times of designing cars for the Californian climate. Quite recently, a video was uploaded to YouTube in which the owner of a Tesla Model 3 demonstrated one major design flaw that has probably been overlooked by the engineers.

More info: Bjørn Nyland | Tesla Twitter | Tesla

An owner of a Tesla Model 3 has demonstrated a major design flaw in the car

The video was uploaded on YouTube and the owner of the car shows the inconvenience he witnesses whenever it’s raining. The video already has almost half a million views and more than 700 comments and was shared on various social media platforms.

Apparently, while designing the car, rainy conditions were not taken into consideration

Bjørn Nyland owns the Tesla Model 3 and apparently, the shape of the trunk is a total design fail for those who live outside of sunny California.

As the video shows, the belongings in the car’s trunk got wet after opening it

Bjørn has shown what happens to him all the time when the trunk of the car is opened after it has been raining – the result is sad but at the same time, hilarious.

A bed cover is a much easier fix than what could possibly help this car

This actually is on purpose. During the rain your trunk fills with water weighing it down making rear sliding less likely during the slippery conditions

Mini Cooper has a design flaw that causes it to suck water into the engine in heavy rain. If this happens to your Mini, they will give you a new car, no questions asked. They have chosen not to fix it because it doesn’t happen often and it’s cheaper for them to replace the cars than change the design.

Or you could just wipe the water off with your hand, instead of being a r****d and deliberately dumping the water into your trunk ( since it's obvious that will happen )...

Most innovative car? Sorry, but no, Tesla is NOT outstandingly innovative or modern or something - it works under certain conditions, but just being electric and not having built cars before does not make a company or a car innovative. And, anyway, the internal combustion engine still has advantages out of reach for any electrically driven car ... a hybrid may be most innovative - if done right, it sure is - but this would rewuire less show and shine, more paying for the innovations you don't see ... the hipsteresk approach of Tesla sure is an easier war to make money, them being called "most innovative" is just part of their own marketing. I drove a Model S one time and really was not impressed at all, tbh I didn't like the interior. Wasn't impressed, neither in a good or a bad way - it was as expected ... not that much of a difference to, like, a VW Passat or something alike.

Not exclusive to Tesla that's for sure. I had a Mercury Capri that did that. Sloppily designed as the Moon roof leaked too.

I used to drive s BMW m3 coupe with the same issue, not that severe but so annoying when you have to think about to put some cover up for water sensitive items. If you do it: no rain, when you forgot: pouring! I never understood how such a flaw can happen.

Anyone who doesn't think that it ever rains in California has never been there between January and March. It rains almost every single day during those months.

As a Tesla owner here is the secret: you put your important stuff in the frunk, you put your siblings s**t in the trunk when you pick them up from the airport. Gets you out of the family obligations every time. Thank you Elon!

Thesew are the little things that get solved by car companies that 99.9% of people do not even think about. But, tesla is nto the only one. Many exotic cars and more than a few econo class cars suffer from this as well.

Model S is a little leaky at the car wash also but doesn’t really matter , it’s 100 mpg energy equivalent and will blow the doors off of 99.99 percent of all cars ever made.

I agree this is an idiotic design flaw, but it has NOTHING to do with California having “no rain." That is a stupid stereotype promulgated by people who have never set foot in our beautiful state. I have lived in the Los Angeles area since 1961. Flash flooding and mud slides caused by torrential rains are all too common in California. Link to story about flash floods this past January: https://ktla.com/2019/01/17/flash-flood-warning-issued-for-thomas-fire-burn-area-where-heavy-rainfall-causing-concern-for-mudslides/ This story mentions a 2018 flood in Montecito (Santa Barbara County) that KILLED 23 PEOPLE. It’s okay, other cars only pollute the air we breathe. But let’s condemn the EV for getting the trunk wet, if you try really hard.

Do other manufacturers of electric car have the same problem? No, they don't.... So this is not an electric or non-electric car issue.

My '94 Volvo sedan has absolutely massive rain channels around the trunk and over the doors to keep water running off the body from pouring in. Both work when the doors are open, the only water that would get in is the water that would fall in directly. Any vehicle that funnels water inside when a door is open has design issues.

I used to think I would eventually get a Tesla. Until they started having production problems and he blamed his employees. I'm from a car family, husband works for GM and have other family who work for Ford. Manufacturing cars is an incredibly difficult process getting all the pieces to work well together. But hiring underpaid people them blaming production problems on them is low. I don't care if Tesla is American made - Elon Musk will throw all his employees under the bus and he doesn't get my business.

I am not sure why everyone is obsessed with scrutinizing every single aspect of the Tesla production process. The big-3 screw up so often nobody even bats an eye about it anymore. And when was the last time you looked at the twitter feed for James Hackett, Mary Barra, or Michael Manley?
