If you look up the weirdest fears people have, you might be surprised to find that people can be scared of anything ranging from their own body parts to normal everyday things. Most people have rational fears like being bitten by a dog or getting hit by a car, as they are very possible. However, as much as humans like to think they are intelligent and very logical, we have many traits that are irrational.

Like getting scared of corridors or hallways. Corridors are just passages that lead us to other parts of the building. But something about them being long, narrow, tall or poorly lit makes them feel unsettling. From time to time, Bored Panda likes to explore the more eerie side of the world and we have such articles as short horror stories and creepy things children say from their past lives, so this time, we searched for some photos of scary corridors and hallways. Not too terrifying, but enough to make someone feel uneasy.

Best negotiated by leaning on the wall with your eyes closed or just crawling on the floor

Corridors are often chosen as a scene for a horror movie. The space is limited and it can almost feel like you’re trapped in a corner, especially if it’s not straight and you can’t see what’s coming next. Also, there are so many possibilities to introduce new crazy characters in a corridor because they can hide behind any door and the victim has practically nowhere to escape.

Stanley Kubrick’s horror film The Shining (1980) is a famous example of setting a scene in a corridor. A 5-year-old child is riding his tricycle through an empty hotel when twin girls that are ghosts appear and invite the boy to play. The scene includes jumpcuts to a terrifying murder scene and eventually the girls disappear.

The Lights Went Out In The Hallway And This Looked Surreal

Kalovo Report

The Shining is not the only example of a corridor being used to make the viewers sit on the edge of their seats. They often become murder scenes in crime movies or TV shows. The creepy vibe in asylums or schools at night is also created by gliding the camera along the corridors.

It is especially unnerving when several lights in the corridor are not working or they are flickering. In this list, you may find the design or choice of colors frightening or just how they are so empty. You might have experienced the same intimidating feeling when you went outside during the lockdown at the beginning of the pandemic as in many countries, almost everything was closed.

But horror movies use all sorts of places for their scary scenes and they do terrify us in the movies, but in real life, we understand there is nothing to be scared of. It seems that it is different with corridors and horror movie directors took a place that already had an unsettling feeling about it and amplified it in their films.

These kinds of movies exploit the irrational fears people have because in order to elicit the response of fear, disgust or any other emotion, they have to be based on something true and familiar.

I absolutely love this hall. I remember when it originally opened back in the 80's...it even played funky-sounding space music. When ever I'm at O'hare I try to visit it.

I'm impressed that it's completely barren of people. Not sure I've EVER seen an empty airport.

Only one self-moving sidewalk goes to your destination. The others, you may find out and you may not like it.

This is the United Airlines Terminal One at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. This tunnel goes under the tarmac where planes park at the B Gates. The Tunnel takes you to the C Gates which are in a separate building. The overhead neon lights work in "chase" pattern, going from white, to yellow, etc. and the walls are lit with what one would assume are fiber optic as they change colors. My particular favorite feature of this tunnel is the music. Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin. I am so fond of the piece that it is the ring tone on my phone. Sadly for the late Mr. Gershon, but good for United Airlines, often when my phone rings, people ask "Why do you have the United Airlines theme music for your ring tone?" This makes me shake my head and feel sorry for them.

Wow i just got through telling my wife that this looks just like an area i saw once on the way to Navy boot camp in Great Lakes. I disembarked about 10pm tired and anxious about what was to come. Everything about that day is a blur. The two things i remember about that day besides the bus ride to the gates of hell were this awesome hallway and the removal of all my hair. I dont know why but out of all the amazing sites, architecture, nature, abd works of art i have seen this hallway has remained one of things i can recall instantaneously. Its not beautiful or even that Amazing but has an effect that will remain with you a lifetime.

Do you find corridors unsettling? Do you think it is because it’s in their nature or you feel that mostly horror movies contributed to making them like that? What is your opinion on why corridors might seem scary even if there are no obvious reasons? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
