We’re constantly reminded how we’re supposed to love our neighbors and treat others the same way that we’d like to be treated. While that works in theory, the sad fact is that politeness, basic respect, and even common sense are in extremely short supply these days. Unfortunately, some people have run out of all three and substituted them with spite, jealousy, and messiness.

We firmly believe that having good, cheerful, helpful neighbors is a gift from heaven. However, they’re pretty rare in this day and age. To help you value the people you live next to right now more, Bored Panda has collected posts about the very worst things that neighbors have ever done. Nobody should have to live next to these individuals. And we wouldn’t wish them even on our worst enemies.

Scroll down to see just how bad neighborly life can get, and upvote the posts that really got your hearts racing with disappointment and despair, Pandas. If you’d like to vent your anger about the people in your neighborhood, block, or building, feel free to do so in the comment section. There’s nothing like letting off a bit of steam to help you move forward.

Bored Panda spoke about neighborly life, and why we no longer seem to know who our neighbors are with Suzanne Degges-White, Ph.D. She is a Licensed Counselor, Professor, and the Chair at the Department of Counseling and Higher Education at Northern Illinois University. She explained to us what has happened over the past half a century in the United States.

“A lot of things have changed over the last 50-60 years that have created obstacles to getting to know our neighbors,” she told us.

“We are often ‘strangers in a strange land’ when we move into new cities for our jobs,” Professor Degges-White said. Technological developments have also pushed us away from interacting with our neighbors.

“Something that we often don't think about if we're living in a modern home is that up until around 50 years ago, here in the US, air conditioning wasn't common, so people would sit outside on their front porches to stay cool. This ‘front porch sitting’ also led to conversations with neighbors who were strolling by.”

They'll stay parked in front of his place for months. Guess what? There is NOTHING we can do about it! We live in a private community and the cops said they can't stop him we can only complain to the HOA but the guy is renting from friends of ours so we complain and our friends get in trouble not him. 3 more weeks.

Your friends doing nothing is part of the problem. Just complain and let them handle the heat. This is one of the very few and rare instances where a HOA is actually beneficial.

For those saying this is just a traffic violation and the cops won't tow, you're wrong. They are impeding emergency vehicle access. Even on a private road it must remain passable for ambulances and firetrucks.

Should you be able to go to the city about zoning laws for having a business in that area even with an HOA? If it's not zoned for business he can conduct a business there.

HOA communities are generally privately owned. Most of the time police can only enforce misdemeanor or high offenses on private property. Illegal parking is just a traffic violation, not a misdemeanor so they can't do anything. Now someone driving drunk is committing a misdemeanor or felony and they can do something

There's no way it's legal or that the HOA AND police couldn't do something about it. It is a hindrance for emergency vehicles to get through. Based on that alone, he would be required to move it and be told to not do it again. Your "friends" aren't very good friends. As the property owners, they can tell him to move the RVs and terminate his lease if he doesn't comply. I, too, am curious about the pervert part. If he's done something, just yet another reason he could be evicted and arrested.

Sooooo, this is my picture that Buzzfeed stole without my consent. First, I went to the homeowner. My friends are veterans and they got stationed overseas for 3 years. They were already having trouble with the guy. They were trying to get him evicted, and we’re in California, which isn’t easy. Then, I went to the police. They told me they would ask him to move it, but we were in a gated community, so they couldn’t do anything. It’s more complicated than an HOA outside of a non-gated community. He repaired RVs for a living and would get these side gigs that he’d work on at night time! So, I went to the city for zoning. Now, they did cite him 4 times, but it’s a $25 fine, and he didn’t care. The only people who could have it towed would be the HOA. What you can’t see is that this is a cul-de-sac. He made it impossible for the people at the end, like myself, to back out of driveways safely. So, after my kid almost got hit, I went to the HOA. What did the HOA do? They cited the homeowner!

That doesn't make sense that the Police say they can't do anything about it. A Fire truck can not get through there. Any emergency vehicles have to have the roads clear enough to get through. That is a law.....

Blocking a street is illegal and dangerous. It could make it impossible for an ambulance to get through when needed. Remind the neighbor that that makes him liable if anything happens. Not the owner. The renter will be liable because he is operating a business that is causing the trouble.

I don't believe any of that. The HOA's covenants, conditions, and restrictions are filed with the city and are enforceable by the police. What they are doing is considered illegal and not just a rule about the color you can paint your front door, so the police can enforce it. So I don't believe this post to be even remotely accurate. Someone just found a picture of an RV hanging off someone's driveway as they packed it up for a trip and decided to make up a story. Are they parked like a d**k? 100%. Does anybody believe he repairs RVs for a living out of his home and nobody says anything? Seriously... How stupid do they think we are? (obviously pretty stupid based on the comments of some people who believed it)

We had this problem in reverse. We were renting from a lady that was friends with the neighbors. Her friends had two pitbulls that were constantly digging holes under the fence, breaking the fence, ripping holes in the pool enclosure, and kept us afraid to even go outside. She tried to blame us for the damage instead of confronting her friends. Thankfully we were renting through a management company. We were able to get videos of the dogs in action, and they took care of it for us.

No HOA? I didn't read the comments so I'm sure I'm repeating many others, but do see the one about having an HOA in THIS situation is beneficial. However (being in real estate) depending on your city, county or state laws, even no HOA neighborhoods (I'm in Reno city limits) this can be called in for safety reasons and abandonment if it's sitting for any length of time. Are all the neighbors simply bitching about it while taking no action?

I'm calling BS. The story stinks. Nobody can do anything about it? Police, HOA, Owners of the property? And it's been happening for months, possibly years? The easiest solution is if you are friends with the owner of the rental property, have them kick out the renter for violating lease/HOA. Either something is missing out of the given equation, or OP is making stuff up.

If this guy is operating a business out of his home there has to be some sort of code compliance. The city I live in just went after a repair business because they're sick of all the vehicles being on the street; and they are a business, not a residence. Get to your next city council meeting and demand they do something. The police only deal with criminal matters in many cases. Another option is the fire department. If the road is blocked, emergency vehicles have no access.

So when the "undesirable" is running a business that is obstructing traffic, thereby limiting access for emergency personnel, the hia can't do anything. There was a somewhat similar story in France. The tenants left a house in disarray with garbage from floor to ceiling. Since it was in a small village, the landlord was able to find their new address, rented 5 trucks and dumped their trash on their front door. It was very public and in the news.

According to the professor, there was a focus on engagement, and folks wanted to “get to know their neighbors.”

“Kids also had a lot of free time that would be spent outside because there was more freedom to run, to be loud, and to engage with other kids in the neighborhood.”

“Safety is another reason that folks are less likely to get to know their neighbors—kids don't have the free rein they once did to roam the block or run errands for their parents due to fears about abduction,” she said that there seems to be a general lack of trust in the people living around us.

I think this would be one time I'd be happily planting leylandii - that extremely fast-growing conifer. Not a fan normally (have had nightmares with them planted in homes I've purchased in the past) but here they'd really come into their own!! 🌲🌲🌲 In the meantime, get lessons in archery from the neighbour's elsewhere on this thread!!

We may not even be aware of how these stories affect us unless we pause to consider why we're hesitant to speak to a neighbor or wonder about why someone's shades are always drawn.”

They might have stolen your package, they might not, but you can simply report this to Amazon stating that this is not your property and that you have not received your package and they should replace/refund it.

I suspect that they are throwing things from their own balcony and it hits yours on the way down, rather than singling you out personally. Report them to the building management company as it very likely against the terms of the lease to throw things from the balcony.

Neighbor Tried To Scare Us Out Of Parking In Our Assigned Spot

Neighbor Tried To Scare Us Out Of Parking In Our Assigned Spot

We recently moved to a new apartment complex, and have out-of-state plates. Another person had been parking in the assigned covered spot we were given. We checked with the office and they said it was the spot for our apartment and the person had probably been parking there since it had been empty for a bit. They said we didn’t have to worry about being towed. I figured it was a person who was the second car in their apartment. My suspicion seems to be confirmed as three weeks later this person hasn’t parked in any other covered spot.

I don't understand this whole out of town plates? Does every state have their own individual license plates and do you have to change them every time you're driving through?

Demon child yes, but frankly, that looks exactly like planters currently available from most garden centres, so I have doubts about the "100 years old" part.

What are these houses made of? No tornado, hurricane or strong crazy humans (!?) could make an hollow steel bar go through an actual decent wall made of concrete, bricks or even wood… How could you build a house with paper thin walls?

You were lucky that the wooden beams didn’t catch fire. Some kid threw fireworks into a friends bin last year and it burned down their carport and caused significant smoke damage to the kitchen and living room. Insurance covered everything but they had to live elsewhere for 4 months and it’s only fully fixed now after almost a year.

Unfortunately, cats do like to do their business in other people's gardens and people can get very sick of it, I suspect it's that and not just the cats jumping up (though people can be odd). I'd not put these spikes up in a million years (I like cats) but I have had to pick up more than my share of cat poo considering I don't have a cat right now. I do have two dogs and you'd think that would be off-putting but apparently not! Brave or daft, our neighbourhood moggies! Have had a fair number of killed birds as well that I've had to clear up - I'd rather deal with cat poo.
