You Can Experience Camping Like Never Before With These Tear-Shaped Tents
While this summer is A LOT different from any other, people have been trying to make the best with what they’ve got. Many have been looking for nice local places they could visit and entertaining activities they could engage in while still practising social distancing and keeping themselves safe. For instance, some people from Belgium have been spending their holiday camping in socially distant raindrop-shaped tents that are hanging from trees!

This summer, Belgians can take staycations in these hanging tree tents

A collection of these pear-shaped tents were first designed in the 1990s by a Dutch designer Dré Wapenaar to support environmental activists who sought to stop trees being felled. Fast forward to now, anyone can rent it.
These tents are currently hanging in a forest loctaed in Borgloon, Belgium

Each of these quirky tents is equipped with a bed, a bench, storage, windows, and a ladder to help guests climb in and out of the tent

“The tents are fully booked every summer, but this year, the bookings went much faster. If we had more tents, they would also be taken every day of July and August. I believe it’s because of the government’s guidelines to travel in your own country. So people started searching for alternatives to stay somewhere,” the head of tourism for the eastern town of Borgloon, Katrien Houbey, told Bangkok Post.
In order to spend a night in one of these tents you have to pay around $82

“My tents are too expensive to produce (commercially). I should have designed it in a different way if I wanted to sell many of them… I am not a good product designer, I am an artist,” the designer Wapenaar told Reuters.

The designer has some more similar tents in the Belgian town of Bornem, near Antwerp, in a sculpture park in the United States, at a bed-and-breakfast in France and at a campsite in the Netherlands

u guys commenting about the bathroom situation clearly have never been camping in ANY kind of tent.
So, what actual benefit do these have over a regular tent? None that I can fathom unless you're camping in an arroyo during a storm. There's not enough venting, it's gonna be a sauna in there even when it's not very warm outside. The ladder setup is awkward. The location close together and the amount of materials and construction used to create these is completely opposite of what most people are trying to do when they go tent camping.
The benifit is that they're fun! And weird! Weird is always a bonus
