Teen Makes A Stunning Dress From Scratch After Learning His Prom Date Couldn’t Afford Her Dream Gown
Even though we all have very different preferences when it comes to fashion and we’re not here to argue about taste, we can probably all agree that most girls tend to have that Disney-bound dream when it comes to prom. Suddenly they’re all about those puffy princess-like dresses and boy, are expectations high when they’re on the hunt for that perfect one! Such was the case when Pendleton Heights senior Adrianna Rust went out looking for her perfect gown to wear to prom. While it’s safe to say she did find one, the price tag made her leave with a frown upon her face. That’s when her best friend and prom date Parker Smith came to her aid, put on his fairy godmother wings and started working on the perfect Cinderella dress for Addi. More info: AddiRust
As all girls before prom, Pendleton Heights senior Adrianna Rust dreamed about finding the perfect dress
Addi’s fairytale began last February when she started her hunt for the perfect dress but realized it was way too expensive after finding one. “Parker, why don’t you just make my prom dress!” she jokingly told her best friend and the two laughed about it for a while.
She actually did find one but it turned out to be outrageously expensive
Luckily, her best friend Parker Smith took her joke that maybe he should make her one quite seriously
That little joke was enough for Parker to actually start thinking that maybe he could actually make her the dress of her dreams, even though he had never sewn anything previously in his whole life.
And thought to himself he’d sew something just so his prom date could feel like a real-life Cinderella on the special day
Isn’t he a real Prince Charming?
Parker made a sketch for the dress himself and then moved on to the hardest part – teaching himself how to sew. Even though his grandmother helped him along the way, he admitted that he ended up redoing parts of the dress a couple of times just to make sure everything was a perfect fit. “I’m such a perfectionist that I was up adding more stones to the dress even the night before prom,” he said.
He started by sketching out Addi’s perfect gown
And then proceeded to make it through trial and effort
“Quite a journey, but the first thing I’ve ever sewn (a prom dress) has been finished, just in time for the ball! Not only did I get the honor of being the Prince Charming to the beautiful @AddiRust, but her fairy godmother as well, haha! I’m so thankful for her. (From scratch),” Parker tweeted along with the beautiful pictures of the pair on their prom day.
The outcome turned out so perfectly, people are suggesting he should make a career out of it

Load More Replies...Great friend. Why has prom become such an outlandish event. Girls are expected to be decked out in dresses that cost hundreds of dollars, plus makeup and shoes. The guy has to rent a tux and shoes. The tickets are unbelievably expensive. For what? A plate of rubber chicken, crappy music and all the people you fight to avoid every other day of school. IMHO abolish these nightmares
Always. I read BP before going to bed and this is a great note to end on. Much better than some other options on this site. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to hit the hay with a smile.
Load More Replies...LOVE this! I too had sticker shock when looking for my fairytale dress (had to pay for my own dress). Alas, I had to settle with something I could afford and definitely did NOT feel magical in the least. Parker, thank you for making Adrianna a princess!
Bloody hell, that's more than amazing for a first sewing job. I've made clothes for myself but only from premade patterns and with much sewing experience. To make a fitted bodice is not a simple thing. Absolutely he should make it a career if he wants. And such kindness as well to do such a thing
He’s an amazing drawer, dress-designer and maker, and a wonderful friend! :’) So nice of him.
Yeah! When you pull the k**b back, you can even put your clothes inside it—cupboards eally just don't cut it!

This is just awesome! Good job!!!!! Parker Smith, I've been sewing for 59 years and I doubt I could have done better than this dress. The most beautiful thing about it apart from it being a gorgeous dress is the fact that you made it for her. You are a genuinely beautiful human being, if I were her I would never let you go. ❤️
What a fantastic job his parents have done!! They are cute as two bugs in a rug!
Not only is the dress amazing, that sketch is amazing, too! What a wonderful friendship these two have!
A story of amazing friendship, as well as a teenager, who became a fairy godmother, the dress and color look fabulous on the pretty girl !!!
A true gentleman is one that is worried about those around him and acts accordingly. He is and will always be a true gentleman.
Honey, he's a keeper! He thought of you, and learned how to sew. That's dedication. Makes me wonder how jealous the other girls were...
Buddy... You know how to care for the one you chose to care for. Keep it coming, and you will always be a winner!
Not only was the dress a fantastic success, that sketch is phenomenal. Would love to know more about them: has he always been creative, is he always so driven, how did they become besties?
This is one of the most fantastic thing in this sometime unthoughtful world. I hope their friendship last forever ..
do not fall for your gay friend. Every girl does it, it's ok, but don't go down that path.
This is so sweet! No truer friend could be found. This is one joy no one can ever take away from either one of them!
I'm so glad we didn't have these awful proms when I was at school (UK). I would have been outside the place with my mates chucking chips and taking the p**s out of those going in. The concept of this is Horrendous to me! That said, this guy sounds absolutely incredible! He is a very special fella indeed, I can sew, curtains, cushions etc but I dearly wish I could make my own clothes. To make a dress like this from scratch with no sewing knowledge is phenomenal. And she looks so happy too, I'm really pleased for them for such a spectacular result 😊
proms are pretty much the American equivilant of a Coming Out ball. (Which my mother had, but then, she was born in 1916.) They're supposed to be a treat for seniors in high school; what they are is nasty popularity contests. Lately they've become a mecca for sexual hookups.

What a great guy! What a wonderful, beautiful thing for him to do for Addi. The other girls at the prom should be just a little bit jealous of having such a great friend and date.
Wow! I’m a newbie at sewing but I am already considering make clothes for my friends but wasn’t really sure if it was a good idea. (Cost, whether they’ll like it, etc) But seeing this makes me want to do nieces things too! A round of applause for a great friend!!! 👏👏🤗👏👏
Term fairy godmother was careless and rude for this great guy. They both looked amazing.
They're not. He wanted to make it for her because she couldn't afford the dress she had wanted.
