Dad Punishes Teen Daughter By Taking Over Her Social Media For 2 Weeks, His Posts Receive More Likes Than Hers
When Tawnya Ford and Larry Sumpter found out that their 15-year-old daughter, Madelynn, had helped sneak boys into a sleepover party, they came up with two forms of punishment. And they let Maddie choose. Either a month without a phone or two weeks without a phone but the parents get complete control of her social media.
Madelynn immediately chose the second option.
However, it wasn’t long before the high school sophomore from Denton, Texas, began to regret her decision. As soon as the takeover took off on November 11, her dad got really creative on her TikTok and Instagram accounts.
For example, Larry danced around with his son-in-law in a pair of daisy dukes and a crop top in one video. And gazed at the camera while laying in bed in a candid closeup picture. Eventually, even Madelynn’s classmates began regularly checking his updates.
“After the first day, Madelynn was like, ‘I changed my mind, I choose the one month,'” Ford told TODAY. “Larry told her, ‘No. I’m too invested. I have too many ideas. We’re sticking with the two weeks.’ He’s loving it. I think he’s gonna make his own TikTok account when this over.”
“We’re always down to embarrass our kids!” the mom laughed.

Parent takeover day 12!! With a little help from Mom and Aunt Crystal. #fyp #foryoupage #makebetterchoices #parentingwin
After Maddie got her social media back, she posted an innocent pic of her early years on Instagram, saying, “I’m back sweeter than ever and ready to make good choices.”
To which one of her followers replied, “Call me crazy, but your dad made cooler posts.”
This, to me, was a good idea to make her think about the consequences of her actions. He gave her the choice of to options. She might have felt a little embarrassed but he didn't humiliate her on her social media. It was all good clean fun. I loved it.
Good point. It shows a mutual trust for each other in the family. But I'd still discourage other parents to do the same unless they really know how to do no harm.
Wow, looks like only Webb understood what I said, the rest of replies so far are completely changing topic. She chose this kind of punishment because she trusts her parents, she knows they love her and that their "embarrassing method" won't be something truly hurtful. And she was proven correct. The parents explained from the start what was going on and didn't do anything that would actually be humiliating. Having said that, I would still discourage parents to implement the same kind of punishment, because what may have worked for this girl may not work for your kid. It's actually very simple logic and I really don't understand all your drammatic reactions.
Si, she was given a choice. This WAS mutually agreed upon. SHE CHOSE THIS AS HER PUNISHMENT!
@Daria B Considering how mean some parents can be, I think you're right. If the parents give the child a choice of punishment, the child at least has an informed decision as to what it will be..and some control over it. But it does come down to trust. As mean as my mother was, if she had presented this choice to me now..I would have taken a month without the phone.
L McN Hate to break it to you, but if your teen sends nude photos across the internet, THEY can get sent to jail for child porn, not you. Because they sent child porn too, they will be required to register as a sex offender..a tag that follows them for life. So I would hope you explain those consequences to them. As far as cracking down on your kids for other things they've done wrong...good luck with that. My mother was feared and hated by all of her kids for how she laid down the law. We still found ways to get away with crap..stuff that probably would have been way less intense had she taken the time to a) treat us like humans instead of animals b) lead by example..telling us she'd beat our ass if she ever caught us drinking while she drove home drunk every chance she got. Now she comfortably sits in her apartment..no visitors, no calls, no communication with family. So I hope severe punishment and being firm is worth the future loneliness.
The girl is hiding her face. He is showing his. There’s nothing mutual about it.
Daria, if your child sends a nude photo, you as a parent can go to jail for it. With that in mind, proper instruction should be in place AND proper discipline...with well established rules for what will happen if they violate that trust already in place. Since she can send what she wants and get ME in trouble for it with no repercussions for herself, I will be extra careful to ensure that she sends only legal pictures and crack down on ones that get too close to illegal. Even if she hates me I hope that it builds the habit of thinking twice about it when she is on her own. However, I would not post on her account personally (outside of "She got her phone taken away because of: generic description of why" comments so that her friends that are not local know why she isn't talking), this father was very respectful while also ensuring she knew that EVERYONE knew about the mistake. Kudo's, and well done to him. edit: laws vary by state and country, and are changing to adjust for teens doing this on their own now. But where I live, still a risk.

I think its great, it gives a perspective of how ridiculous so many of the posts on social media can be and perhaps you don't need to spend all of your time on it. Kudos to the parents for their imagination.
he should just keep the account
Dad level 1000
I fail to see the harm done to the child through this. Absolute PARENTING WIN!!!
Oh my, I cracked up on this and almost fell of my chair at work. I love that guy!!!!!
There is nothing wrong with this. He didn't humiliate his daughter b he humiliated himself. & let's not forget, she had a choice! She could have simply given up her phone for 1 month & kept all of her social media accounts to herself.
This is cute. This made her more popular. Also 15 years old her parents should have had full access already to everything . But the family is entertaining and this indeed was not a real punishment
And she knew her dad's personality when she handed over access ...
If this was my dad, he would have flipped seeing my TikTok under the name "skinnybiotch1235".
When I was 15, online social media hardly existed, and I wasn’t part of it yet. It was still something that existed almost entirely in intranets at universities. I turned 15 in 1992....
I may just have to sign up for his Instagram account if it’s going to be this entertaining everyday!
The dad looks really carefree :D Maybe that's why his posts were so welcomed, he didn't really care what others would think

She is so lucky to have a dad like this, and she'll realize it very quickly, I hope. He takes an interest and gets involved, not enough parents are doing that nowadays. Awesome job!
This Dad is awesomesauce. Love it. Now, I have some great references if I have to take my 13 y.o. daughters phone away in the future.
You had two weeks, come on. There should be like, 10 more pictures. lol
Asshole parents. Good on her for sneaking those guys into the party. Also "...ready to make good choices." is the most cringe thing I've read in a long time. As if her parents didn't force her to write that. Punishment doesn't teach people that they should make better choices. It teaches people how to not get caught nest time.
I can't help but wonder if parents do this with the hope of going viral (like this story has). Does that help the child? How about just banning the social media for a predetermined period of time rather than turning it into a parenting flex spectacle?
Now this dad should do this all the time.
Oh my... he's fit!
This dad is a fuckin ledge 😂😂😂😂👏👏👏👏
Looks a lot like Patrick Warburton.
We want to see more.... This was awesome
Very Creative & Hilarious, Indeed! I LIKE Dad's Posts, Too!
id rather have had this than any other punishment XD
So many parents fail to understand how important social media is to their kids. She got hers back. At least it works as long as she cares about the punishment.
OMG... this is awesome! Her whole family is!!! Hey, they gave her a choice... it's all about that and so is life. They let her experience that in a safe environment and she posted a sweet pic when she got her phone back. You guys rock!

She's embarrassed and shamed but should be thankful she has a father like that.
I would say she probably was a little embarrassed but I don't think she was shamed. She probably will think twice before making a poor decision though.
A father like what? A controlling creep? Nah, if she's smart once she gets old enough she'd run far, far away from him and only call on Christmas if at all.
Someone here think that this is humiliating her daughter but then people who posting stupid pictures and crazy videos is the dad, if this is humiliation I guessing it should be more toward self-humiliating.
Awesome dad. Though, tbh if I had been her. I would've chosen the 1 month without a phone. After all. They don't know my passwords, and I still have laptop to use~
The passwords on my devices are 7-10 characters, and nobody bothers to remember the password.
As a mom I totally approve this. You do whatever it takes to discipline your kids, and there is no one size fits all option. If mortifying your kid on social media to keep them from turning into an adult d-irtbag is what it takes, then do it! Good job dad 👍
As a person I disagree with this

This is really stupid. First of all the online identity of the child does not belong to the parent. They are their own person. Second of all it demonstrates attention seeking narcissistic behaviour on the parent's part. Very pathological.
Punishment doesnt fir the crime. Please dont publicly shame your kids. My mom did it and thats why I have BPD and AvPD

her parents didn't just 'take over'. It was with her consent, as punishment for breaking the rules. She DID have another choice, where her social media would have had zero input by her parents. *She* chose to allow them to take over her social media, instead of losing her phone for longer. Her parents don't appear to have done anything against, or about her (other than the first post, informing her followers that the next 2 wks of posts were not by her - but were done with her prior consent). And his posts, were of himself being silly, so if anyone is to be "embarrassed" by his posts, theoretically it should be him. What she can be embarrassed about, is breaking the rules set by her parents.
