Teacher Shares How He Prepared And Executed A Super Detailed Plan On How To Punish 7 Slackers With Protective Parents
Seven toxic seniors were leeching off of their classmates’ hard work during group projects to maintain their grades, and the other kids were too nervous and scared to do something about it. So their teacher took action.
It took some time to plan and execute everything, but the resourceful pedagogue gets an A+ in my book for his efforts. After losing all hope in the slothful seven, he put together yet another group project where they were forced to work with each other instead of spreading throughout the class and polluting other groups. Outmaneuvering entitled parents, he allowed them to suffer the natural consequences of their lack of giving a crap.
After everything was said and done, it took the teacher three months to write down the story between grading stuff, but it was worth it. It immediately went viral on the subreddit ProRevenge, and everyone who has been screwed over in group projects applauded him for instilling justice.

Great story! You actually got me to read it all. It just goes to show you that some people will never learn to outgrow being entitled and thinks the world owes them something. You even managed to teach the other teachers. I fortunately learned long ago, that people will treat you how you allow you to treat them so I approach my work as you do, by documenting everything. Again, great story! You make a fine teacher.
This is important in any job. An early boss of mine told me if I needed documentation after a meeting or talking to someone, to email them a summary of the meeting & ask them to let me know if there were any corrections or additions. That way, everything was in writing, and if there was an issue later and they protested, I would have documentation of me asking for any corrections or additions.

This was s great read!!!! High School kinda sucked for me because I was the nerdy girl and a lot of seniors would try to bully me to do their work. By 11th grade my mother home schooled me because a group of girls jumped me when I told them no. They never got suspended and their parents even said that if I would have just did their work, none of this would have happened. So basically, I was to blame for the black eye, broken wrist and cracked rib I recieved from the fight!! Now as a parent, I am dreading this for my son. But I always speak with him and tell him that he can come to me for anything. I hope he fairs better than I did.
That's so sad. I too, was the kid that was bullied into doing work. However, at the time I went to school, there was no home schooling. On the other hand, girls rarely got beaten up. If a girl took a swing at another girl, she was made to go to "charm school".

I work at a high school in an affluent area in CA and this sounds JUST like many of our students! Good for you for not backing down and making them accountable for their actions! I can't believe the audacity of some of these parents. I always say working at a school is teaching me how NOT to parent.
I have read about parents demanding their child be given a grade they didn't earn, then getting the teacher fired for not being flexible with grades. Mommy and daddy to the rescue. The child never learns to be responsible for their actions. Depending on how well connected the parents are, their offspring may never need to be accountable. Easy in to corporate jobs with little or no expectations. Pathetic. I would be embarrassed if my son was so arrogant and self entitled. I was raised to believe success requires hard work. There is so much that makes me sad in this story. It sounds like not only parents, but all the other teachers failed these kids and allowed them to get to the end of secondary education without teaching them essential life lessons. I would have doubts, but having worked in various schools in the US, I can attest to the fact that parents make the job of teaching more difficult than you can imagine. I have so many stories of entitled and stupid parents making trouble, and failing to teach their kids how to behave and how to be accountable for their choices and actions. Our education systems need a massive overhaul, as do a lot of parents!
Due party to my work, and some just others my children knew, there are far too many young adults in this day and age running around, that graduated high school, but can't read or spell for s**t. It's just scary and I've wondered why they are where they are without the ability to read and spell. It makes me furious when you know a young adult that just graduated high school, yet they are not prepared for the world around them. What kind of jobs can a person get with no spelling abilities or reading comprehension. They are being failed and it's incredibly sad. I'm a teacher myself and I'm in the minority here but I feel like this guy was gunning for those boys from the get go. Sounds like he's hated all the schools he worked for...maybe he needs a vacay...or a different career. There are better ways to deal with problem students (and parents) than revenge.
My toughts exactly. A good teacher doesn’t need blackmails,frauds,contracts,fights,etc. Best teachers I had were simple teachers,who cared and were simpathetic and interesting. Cannot even imagine these kind of fights every day... so tireing. Like he actuality enjoyed it and not caring about being a teacher,but the “one who is always right”. Teachers are, and I cannot underscore this enough, an underpaid, unsung, misvalued asset (very much so in the US). I appreciate the OP wanting to protect his students who are actually trying. By introducing the project on senior skip day, with warning, and by formatting the groups/project, such that, if any of the 7 tried to bully the other classmates into allowing them to join their group, they'd receive 2x the work. However, the story does have a certain tone of vendetta. Why? The OP concludes their account droning on about these students being "defeated", because the majority of them are now "failures", based on hearsay from other graduated classmates. To me, that means, in an attempt to teach these young men, the good intentions were marred and superseded by a need to win, and prove the parents wrong. Which, is the same stance/method of resolution these students' parents used that the OP so hated, and attributed their classmates' unruly behavior. How is that a win?

As a fellow teacher, I am very sorry that the system in your country has reduced you to devoting so much energy and time into devising defenses and justifications against parents, and you would still be so rattled to put even more effort into writing this. This is not even remotely what teaching or interacting with students is like in other countries. Yours is a distopia and it has claimed you. Something about this just doesn't ring true. It actually comes off as someone who is a student that wrote some crazy fantasy about screwing over some kid(s) who are lazy do-nothings in their class. I say that because toward the end of the story, the author talks about a couple of these kids losing scholarships. He spends the first 80% of the story telling us how none of these kids do the work. So how would they have a scholarship? Before you say it could've been a sports scholarship, I'll stop you there. I played sports and, as athletes, we were held to a high standard. Bad grades kept you off the field and eventually off the team. I don't buy it.

This was a long, but great story. It's sad that these parents believe the ridiculous nonsense that comes out of their kids' mouth. That's how our society works these days: people who think they can bully people into giving them what they want. Something like this happened in one of my college classes. One of my professors was a little eccentric and nutty so this girl decided to use that to her advantage. She wanted to get the professor fired and wanted me in on it. Turns out she wasn't don't her work and thought if he got fired, that would not count against her.

This... is amazing. I sincerely wish I had teachers like this teacher in HS. What I got instead - for the most part - were teachers who were more concerned with "looking cool" for the popular kids and went RIGHT along with them to emotionally abuse those of us who just... wanted to learn, get stuff done, get answers to questions and move on.
The big problem I personally have with this read--our school culture and leadership wants parents to be happy and satisfied--even publicly calling patents and students our "customers." It's a toxic culture and it's exhausting being beat up all the time.

As senior if they took a full course load all 4 years, they likely already had most of the credits they needed to graduate. As far as I know, the only subjects that you need 4 years of to graduate are English (literature and writing, etc.) and gym. Then 2 years of math, science. 2 specific classes: US History & Economics/government. And then a certain number of elective credits. For example, I graduated with 7 class credits more than the minimum required.

Great read! This just proves that at the end of the day, the kids are the ones who come out the most affected. No good comes from parents coming at teachers for their child's bad grades and laziness. If a teacher tells you your kid is lazy, listen to them. They are the ones who spend the most time with your kid!
Few years late but this was a great story and I enjoyed reading it. Cudos. One thing. I was a straight A student in high school and college. But. But but but... I completely disagree with forced group projects. Horrendous for anyone who actually wants to succeed on their own merit. I was nerdy and quiet. I had no friends, and anyone who was with me in a project was there solely because they wanted to slack, because I would do the work. My teachers didn't care like you do. It was the 90s, and I was just told to suck it up. I truly believe that group projects do absolutely nothing except punish the good students while benefitting the slackers. If I had my way there would be very few assignments of this type. I now work 36 of my 40 hour week completely alone and unsupervised. I get so much more done. It's heaven.
I don't often read a story this long. But, I thoroughly enjoyed it as I have frequently been that one kid who does the whole group project. This is yet another reason why teachers are so crucial and should receive a MUCH higher wage.

I love a good story! Genius work on your part to utilize emails, time-stamps, etc for proof; big believer in document, document, documet! Great organizational skills & critical thinking, as well. I especially love that you got through to ONE of them. That has to be a boost for you. I loved school, but at one time I was a horrible child & made one of my teachers cry (I have tried to find her to apologize but have been unable). I had a history teacher in 8th grade that I still sing praises of. Teachers are awesome in my book--it's one of those jobs/careers that you really have to be cut out for. Having been a teacher, it was lovely to read that his boss had his back. My LM would support you all the way, but the Principal, different story. He is the reason I quit. You try your best to help all of your students, even those you know that your time, effort and stubbornness to believe in them (or get themselves to believe in themselves) will be wasted. But there is always one that breaks out of this mould and proves the universe wrong. It’s those students you do it for.
It's a shame teachers have to put up with such intense BS. I grew up in a small town and if students were screwing up -- behavior, academic, etc -- they would receive a warning first. THEN a parent would have to sit with them in class for one week. Seemed like this happened once or twice at the beginning of the year, then NEVER AGAIN.
I would love to email favorite teachers from high school, but they are all dead now. Even some of my college instructors are gone. Sucks to get old. I hate class projects. I hate working with other students. I cannot think of maybe 1 or 2 team projects at school - high school, college, grad school - where it wasn't a PITA to get the project completed, let alone with everyone contributing. At work, your team members are motivated, you are familiar with everyone's strengths and schedules, and there is no goofing around. I worked as sys admin - generally goofballs are not tolerated and don't last long. Document, document, document - and Gantt Charts are a great way to track work assignments and progress.

This is why I always tried to be my own group. More work but I could rely on myself. Most teachers didn't care but few that made me work in a group and always when that happened one person in the group screwed the rest of us.. it's sucked. I'm glad I'm not in school anymore but at 38 years old I still have school nightmares. From losing my locker combination to projects being due that I don't know about, and running to my class on the other side of the school and no matter how fast I ran it just keeps getting further away.. damn frustration dreams. I even have dreams where I'm my age now but I've been put back in middle school and must retake all my classes to graduate "properly". God I hate that nightmare the most and of course it's the one I have most often.

A very sad fact of my Millennial generation: One of my college (COLLEGE MIND YOU!) professors said that when some students complained about grades and she didn't give in and change them, she also at times has had to deal w/ their parents whining on behalf of their kid (though a young adult by age and body - such people are clearly children by their psychology, so in this case referring to them as kids makes perfect sense.). For f**k's sake fellow Millennials, grade grubbing is one thing, but if you're stooping to it at least be adult enough to do it your damn self. If the prof says no take it like the adult you're supposed to be and try harder, try again next time. You're not supposed to be boys and girls anymore.

Here are simpler plans for dealing w/ slackers in group projects when you're the teacher: a.) Don't assign group projects. b.) Have a huge percentage of the grade on the group project be based on the avg. rating each student gets from their peers as to how much they contributed, say on a scale of 1-10 (this is what one of my law school profs cleverly devised - and announced this to all, so we understood, slack and you'll be punished). In general though, this person is kind of psycho about it all - it is just high school man. My father taught high school, I've subbed for high school teachers, I know it's not trivial, but it's also not everything.

What an amazing thing! I had many great teachers, and thanked them all. Unfortunately, I am sure they have all passed on as I am 61 now. But a teacher that give you every chance to succeed, is a teacher to emulate. Thank you, for being the amazing teacher you are. My sister is a teacher, and comes up against the apathy of parents who are not even bothered by how badly their kids do. This is really interesting and totally worth the read. I love when teachers get revenge on crappy students because I went to a very underfunded public school in the middle of nowhere and the teachers were treated horribly. One teacher even got her car smashed by students and had racial slurs written on her classroom walls.

This... is amazing. I sincerely wish I had teachers like this teacher in HS. What I got instead - for the most part - were teachers who were more concerned with "looking cool" for the popular kids and went RIGHT along with them to emotionally abuse those of us who just... wanted to learn, get stuff done, get answers to questions and move on.
The big problem I personally have with this read--our school culture and leadership wants parents to be happy and satisfied--even publicly calling patents and students our "customers." It's a toxic culture and it's exhausting being beat up all the time.

As senior if they took a full course load all 4 years, they likely already had most of the credits they needed to graduate. As far as I know, the only subjects that you need 4 years of to graduate are English (literature and writing, etc.) and gym. Then 2 years of math, science. 2 specific classes: US History & Economics/government. And then a certain number of elective credits. For example, I graduated with 7 class credits more than the minimum required.

Great read! This just proves that at the end of the day, the kids are the ones who come out the most affected. No good comes from parents coming at teachers for their child's bad grades and laziness. If a teacher tells you your kid is lazy, listen to them. They are the ones who spend the most time with your kid!
Few years late but this was a great story and I enjoyed reading it. Cudos. One thing. I was a straight A student in high school and college. But. But but but... I completely disagree with forced group projects. Horrendous for anyone who actually wants to succeed on their own merit. I was nerdy and quiet. I had no friends, and anyone who was with me in a project was there solely because they wanted to slack, because I would do the work. My teachers didn't care like you do. It was the 90s, and I was just told to suck it up. I truly believe that group projects do absolutely nothing except punish the good students while benefitting the slackers. If I had my way there would be very few assignments of this type. I now work 36 of my 40 hour week completely alone and unsupervised. I get so much more done. It's heaven.
I don't often read a story this long. But, I thoroughly enjoyed it as I have frequently been that one kid who does the whole group project. This is yet another reason why teachers are so crucial and should receive a MUCH higher wage.

I love a good story! Genius work on your part to utilize emails, time-stamps, etc for proof; big believer in document, document, documet! Great organizational skills & critical thinking, as well. I especially love that you got through to ONE of them. That has to be a boost for you. I loved school, but at one time I was a horrible child & made one of my teachers cry (I have tried to find her to apologize but have been unable). I had a history teacher in 8th grade that I still sing praises of. Teachers are awesome in my book--it's one of those jobs/careers that you really have to be cut out for. I know I couldn't do it, so props to you and others that do!
Having been a teacher, it was lovely to read that his boss had his back. My LM would support you all the way, but the Principal, different story. He is the reason I quit. You try your best to help all of your students, even those you know that your time, effort and stubbornness to believe in them (or get themselves to believe in themselves) will be wasted. But there is always one that breaks out of this mould and proves the universe wrong. It’s those students you do it for.
It's a shame teachers have to put up with such intense BS. I grew up in a small town and if students were screwing up -- behavior, academic, etc -- they would receive a warning first. THEN a parent would have to sit with them in class for one week. Seemed like this happened once or twice at the beginning of the year, then NEVER AGAIN.
I would love to email favorite teachers from high school, but they are all dead now. Even some of my college instructors are gone. Sucks to get old. I hate class projects. I hate working with other students. I cannot think of maybe 1 or 2 team projects at school - high school, college, grad school - where it wasn't a PITA to get the project completed, let alone with everyone contributing. At work, your team members are motivated, you are familiar with everyone's strengths and schedules, and there is no goofing around. I worked as sys admin - generally goofballs are not tolerated and don't last long. Document, document, document - and Gantt Charts are a great way to track work assignments and progress.

This is why I always tried to be my own group. More work but I could rely on myself. Most teachers didn't care but few that made me work in a group and always when that happened one person in the group screwed the rest of us.. it's sucked. I'm glad I'm not in school anymore but at 38 years old I still have school nightmares. From losing my locker combination to projects being due that I don't know about, and running to my class on the other side of the school and no matter how fast I ran it just keeps getting further away.. damn frustration dreams. I even have dreams where I'm my age now but I've been put back in middle school and must retake all my classes to graduate "properly". God I hate that nightmare the most and of course it's the one I have most often.
Woah. Wish the twats in my grade who don’t care about their grades and don’t do the work get this karma. Some of them are doing sports and a few got kicked off the team because of their grades. A very sad fact of my Millennial generation: One of my college (COLLEGE MIND YOU!) professors said that when some students complained about grades and she didn't give in and change them, she also at times has had to deal w/ their parents whining on behalf of their kid (though a young adult by age and body - such people are clearly children by their psychology, so in this case referring to them as kids makes perfect sense.). For f**k's sake fellow Millennials, grade grubbing is one thing, but if you're stooping to it at least be adult enough to do it your damn self. If the prof says no take it like the adult you're supposed to be and try harder, try again next time. You're not supposed to be boys and girls anymore.
I don't understand what was your goal, and what did you achive by doing so. I know you were right to do so, but still, what you did, how you described seems wrong and petty. Especially because you mentioned they were not causing disturbance in the class, until group projects. And your doing had good effects only for 1 of those 7. And that you had waves of students every other year. It looks that your methods are very good for a certain amount of people, but the rest, that dosent fit, can get scares for life. You may disagree with me, that is okay. But I have one question - did F1ghterJet actions made a world a better place?

Load More Replies... Here are simpler plans for dealing w/ slackers in group projects when you're the teacher: a.) Don't assign group projects. b.) Have a huge percentage of the grade on the group project be based on the avg. rating each student gets from their peers as to how much they contributed, say on a scale of 1-10 (this is what one of my law school profs cleverly devised - and announced this to all, so we understood, slack and you'll be punished). In general though, this person is kind of psycho about it all - it is just high school man. My father taught high school, I've subbed for high school teachers, I know it's not trivial, but it's also not everything.

This is amazing! You are amazing! Thank you for being such a wonderful teacher! I really wish I had a teacher like you in school. I went to a school similar to this where they let us all slide. If I'd been challenged and could really see that other kids weren't getting away with everything, I would have been so much more productive. Also, this would seriously prepare students for the real world. I hope the world doesn't beat you down and that you maintain a stalwart teacher for the rest of your career! Also, I would really like to hear more of these stories because I still have a pretty big chip on my shoulder for these types of kids. lol
What an amazing thing! I had many great teachers, and thanked them all. Unfortunately, I am sure they have all passed on as I am 61 now. But a teacher that give you every chance to succeed, is a teacher to emulate. Thank you, for being the amazing teacher you are. My sister is a teacher, and comes up against the apathy of parents who are not even bothered by how badly their kids do. Or she has worked with them all year, only to have them come back the next year, and find they lost everything they learned before. The disinterest of these parents in their kids, period, is so sad. You all need to make the salary of a sports star! Thank you, again!
This is really interesting and totally worth the read. I love when teachers get revenge on crappy students because I went to a very underfunded public school in the middle of nowhere and the teachers were treated horribly. One teacher even got her car smashed by students and had racial slurs written on her classroom walls.
This is the kind of teacher that this entitled twat generation sorely needs! These kind of entitled a******s have always existed but there seem to be more now. Plus, at least in California, students can't be punished for their behavior. This teacher is a saint, in my opinion, and it sounds like the vast majority of the parents finally saw their entitled sons for the lazy twats they were. To all teachers, thank you for what you do.

If even one additional teacher hardens a heart and follows your lead, then between you, you have saved more lives than there are COVID-19 cases. Kudos.
