Some people never cease to amaze us with how entitled to discounted or even free services, products, bargains, and goods they feel. Called Choosing Beggars, they even have a whole Reddit community dedicated to their worst faux pas, and we previously wrote about it here, here and here.

It seems like no one is immune to a choosing beggar attack, it doesn’t matter what kind of job you do. This time, we’re taking a look at the tattoo artists who got their nerves challenged big time.

Think of customers who tried to find an easy and inexpensive way to getting themselves inked with, you guessed it!, little results.

Haggling With Tattoo Artists Is Never Advisable

Haggling With Tattoo Artists Is Never Advisable

reddit.com Report

If you ever wondered where the term "choosing beggars" is coming from, it comes from the old adage “Beggars can’t be choosers.” This effectively means that if you have to resort to the charity of others, you have to be willing to accept what they offer you or do without.

Meanwhile, a choosing beggar is a person who ignores this advice. If someone doesn’t owe them anything but offers them something out of generosity, a choosing beggar will put conditions on it or demand something different.

A choosing beggar is someone who has an enormous sense of entitlement. It comes from the belief that someone deserves special treatment or recognition for something they didn't earn. Arlin Cuncic, the author of "Therapy in Focus: What to Expect from CBT for Social Anxiety Disorder" and "7 Weeks to Reduce Anxiety," argues that people with this mindset believe that the world owes them without ever giving anything in return.

Cuncic explains that entitled people have a tendency to adopt goals based around their own self-image, often leading them into conflict with others. "While they may be able to put up an exterior of being nice and well-mannered on the outside, research shows that it's all just for show; deep down inside this is not how they truly feel about themselves or other individuals around them."

If she doesn't have a lot of money and is a single mom why the fåck would she even consider getting a tat? Save the little money you have, in case child/ren needs something important all of a sudden. Emergency money, not tat money. Geez....

The woman is in the wrong here, of course, but idk, it seems to me that the artist's reply is unnecessarily brutal.

It would be nice of him to show some form of respect towards somebody who doesn't respect him, his time or his craft but sometimes you're just done and answer people in the same manner as they approach you. You don't know the day he's had

I wish single parents stop with this. They're essentially using their kids for ill-purposes and giving the rest of the single parents more of a bad rep than we already gotta deal with.

I loathe it when people pull the "single parent" card. I get it, it's tough to raise children, especially as a single parent, but that does not mean that the world owes you. No one owes you s**t. Also, why the f**k do these people think it's okay to use their children like this? Children are not discount cards, stop treating them like it!

Preach! I was a single mom and never in my life did I think to use my child as a "owe me" or "discount card". Pay full price or go somewhere cheaper...jeeze.

Why are people like this?? I don't think it's a good idea to make a person who is working with needles and permanent ink mad. What this man could do to her. If money is tight either don't get it, ask whoever gives you a Christmas gift saying you would like this tattoo instead of a gift, ask the man if you can pay installments. I want my first tattoo but I didn't realize what the price could be and I was dumb on my part. There's just so many other ways to go about this and the artist is really being straight forward. People like this woman irks me so badly. She deserved everything he said to her but she won't learn from it. Anyone who can't pay for a tattoo and is a single mom then she has her priorities mixed up. Hey can I get a tattoo for free since I agree with the artist?!! I'll wait on the list to be seen!! LOL!

The tattoo artist tried to be nice by recommending other tattoo shops, which they didn't have to do and this person kept pushing. Sometimes being rude is the only way to get someone like that to realize that they aren't going to get their way.

It never hurts to ask except when you’re using a bullshït or offensive excuse. That she needs a discount because she’s a single mother is simply saying, “I barely have enough money for my child, but I want to spend it on body art, which will be at the expense of my child so you should make it cheap so my child can eat.” That’s fücking disgusting.

Moreover, Cuncic warns that when people think of themselves as superior, anything that challenges their worldview is met with defensiveness and anger. "This creates a vicious cycle: the more they are challenged by society's limitations, the angrier they become at these injustices," she claims.

Meanwhile, Jane Adams, Ph.D., a social psychologist, writer, and speaker argues that when people feel entitled, they want to be different from others. But just as frequently they come across as indifferent to others. "That’s why they often provoke such negative responses in those they encounter, especially those they don’t personally know," she explains for Psychology Today.

According to Adams, recognizing when our own sense of entitlement is driving us helps us understand our need to balk at social convention, and rebel against limitations on our autonomy or prohibitions on our preferred behavior. "Marching to our own drummer is one thing; knowing when that sound affects others like chalk on a blackboard is another," she argues.

I've got some tats that I thought up myself. When I went to get them done, I wasn't just paying for the application of ink. The artist spruced up my basic designs and made them look MUCH better. That's alot of what you want a good artist for and why you don't argue about paying them.

Client Got A Small Simple Tattoo On His Wrist And He Was Very Happy With It. Few Days Later He's Frantically Emailing And Calling The Shop When It's Shut, Requests A Touch-Up And Insists He Was Overcharged, And Wants To Speak To The Manager

This dude was a walk-in, and wanted a last-minute tattoo on his wrist. He seemed very friendly and grateful for being seen at such short notice. The first thing I noticed was that he was suuuuper nit-picky once the tattoo was done; going back and forth to touch up a millimetre at a time to his liking. I was fine with it, as it's what the client wants and he's looking at it constantly so it needs to be "perfect". Overall he was super happy with it and we thought that was the end. Days later (when the shop is closed), he sends like 5 emails and tries to ring up several times in the span of like 10 minutes. This pic is just the best part of the ordeal. My boss (who is the manager) talked him through it and diffused everything. Our shop minimum is $130, and we make that very clear at the start. The $100 tattoo he mentions was part of a fundraiser with set prices. Never thought I'd encounter a choosing beggar yet here we are
