Tattoo Artist Gets Accused Of Racism For Tattooing Her Entire Body In Black
A London-based tattoo artist Belle Atrix is being criticized online after deciding to cover her body with Blackwork tattoos.
Belle has been documenting and sharing her controversial tattoo journey on Instagram by posting short clips of her tattooing herself in solid black tattoos. People are not happy about it.
While Atrix sees creating her own body art as a kind of “therapy”, her followers have many opinions. Some are encouraging her choice and saying that it’s “gorgeous”, “fantastic” and an “inspiration”. Others are on the complete opposite side however – “You need to be treated. Sick mind,” “Not saying this is racist cause it’s not but if she goes anywhere near her face it will be” wrote Instagram users. “Some people do it for different reasons, I’ve heard pain over aesthetic being one of them, but everytime I see it i still think how is this not akin to blackface, damn these people want to be black so bad!” wrote a user called jayvoops.
It is clear that some people find it offensive, but “Blackwork” style tattoos have been liked and inked on people for ages, so it’s hard to tell why this time it was too much for so many people. What do you think?

Share on FacebookI don't think it's very attractive, but, each individual makes their own choices, some well reasoned. Some not. To me , racism is an ugly attitude toward races not your own , not, how you decorate your body.
I think you can be racist toward you're own race, but she isn't making a racial statement. It doesn't sound like she is trying to change her race or hate on being white.
Load More Replies...Isn't this like, her own business? Why are people so judgemental about other people's lives but lose it when you judge theirs? How does it affect you if she inks her whole body black? And more importantly, how is this even racist? People who shout racism on every little thing are often racists themselves.
I did a quick google search and yeah, the racist hate stuff is out there. Some people are comparing it to blackface. Personally, I think that's stretching a bit, but people'll find anything to hate on these days.
Load More Replies...I'm seriously getting offended by people who get offended by everything.
?? The only pace where shes accused of racism is in your headline.
I wouldn't call this racist, but I wouldn't call this a rational decision either....
Click bait article. I don't see anything about any racist commentary anywhere. Someone has a lot of tattoos... end of article. I think it looks great.
Oh my god these days everything is racist yes racism is a serious issue that people should look out for but like this isn't racist at all and it's none of people's business so if people aren't bothering others you have no right to go poking into other people's lives.(and yes I'm sorry for my non existent punctuation)
Its nothing to do with racism. This is strong self expression. Has she got issues probably but not our business.
We wear black pants, black shirts, black shoes and more just about every day. Tattooing is no difference. This is a beautiful and meaningful way to express your deepest thoughts and desires to everyone, not a racism stunt.
It looks more like made by marker pen, not ink. Come on!
Load More Replies...WTF is wrong with people?!?! HOW in the hell is it "racist" if she WANTS her skin to be black?!?! IT ISNT!! Its all of these clueless millennials SEARCHING for reasons to get the panties in a bunch! GROW TF UP!! GET A LIFE!! USUALLY when someone WANTS to look like someone else, its called FLATTERY!!! NOT racism!! Do ya'll even know the MEANING of the word?!?!
she looks like the type of person who would get mad if you stared at her even though it would be hard not to.
Well she won't have to wear leggings again cuz now she's got permanent ones :)
It's her choice. Where is the racism ? Racism isn't about hating a another skin color ? So, if she color herself to black.. She don't hate that skin color, it would be absolutly mad and illogical. I know some people can be illogical at that point but here, i don't think. The one who accuse her didn't thinked very far than "skin color => Not black ! => obligatory racism"... And it's plain stupid.
I can think of a couple words I'd use to describe her choices but racist isn't one of them.
Actually, African Americans are brown...not jet black. So, If an African American were to cover their entire body in 'white out'...I wouldn't have grounds to be offended.
How is this even racist? Is she hating on any race? No. Is she purposely hurting someone (other than maybe some butthurts? Probably no. She decided to tattoo her body a certain color, nothing more to it. If this whole cultural appropriation thing goes on, in 2018, we will be accused of being intolerant towards the flamingoes for wearing pink and towards the carrots for wearing orange. Tsk tsk.
So would black people lightening their skin be racist? I mean, how much did Michael Jackson bleach HIS skin? And no, he did not have a disease that caused it.
She didn't even cover her entire body, this has been done by multiple people who get tattoos, do you really think any where in their mind they're attempting to change their race? People who gets tattoos do it to make their body their own canvas, not to try and pretend to be a race they are not. People need to get over themselves, why insult someone for tattoos? This is not in any way shape or form racist or even remotely close to it. Hell a black person could get white paint tattoos, does that make them racist? Does it mean they're trying to change their race? No it means they like the color white in their tattoos and because their body is theirs they'll do what the f**k they want. I'm sick of unnecessary hate and discourse over non issues like this.
I think it’s cool... I mean I would never do this, but she has her own desires i guess
Maybe she doesn't like the tattoos underneath so she's covering them up. Ever think of that?
as a person of color, i just don't see this "racism." many people today do this, so when/ if they do white ink tattooing (not sure but i think it makes branding markings more distinctive as well). also, i think it looks REALLY cool and stylish.
When the liberal values you hold so dearly come back to bit you in the a*s. HAHA you libs never learn.
What the actual f**k? Why there are always people like "You racist because of this, because of that!" ( expecially for nothing) and at the end the only racists that you can see are they? What the hell is wrong with this kind of people? Why they aren't able to do their f*****g business? The true racists are the people judging her for her choises about her own work on her own body, and actually a good piece of work on a very nice woman... Seriously, what the f**k is wrong with this people?
I’m in love with her spirit and self expression, she’s also incredibly attractive imo
I just think of being coloured in by a big fat Sharpie...but this will never come off. I wonder what her rationale is... And shame on Bored Panda, I'm getting big horrible real estate ads even with installing Ad Block.
My first impression was that of a toddler with a black sharpie and the trouble they can get into. However, if she wants to do this to herself, then so be it. She's an adult and can make her own choices. She is the one who has to live with it. I wonder though if she will eventually regret her decision to cover herself in a solid black tattoo? What will she look like in thirty or forty years tattooed like that? As for the people calling her racist. These people do not know what real racism is. They have never seen it nor experienced it. The majority are far too young to remember the segregation that was still very prevalent even into the early 60's; the "whites only" and "colored only" signs everywhere and the harsh penalties for not obeying them. I could go on but I hope you get my point. No, what this person is doing is not racism or race or cultural appropriation. It is simply someone expressing herself in her own unique way.
Ive never seen a actual black person that is seriously 100 percent black
Racism according to the Oxford dictionary: "Prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior." and "The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.". Was this criteria met? No? Then move along. SJW's need a dictionary.
I don't think there is anything racist at all about this young ladies decision. In my opinion, which is my own, is it would be so much more uplifting and interesting if she chose a gazillion beautiful and colorful tattoos. To each, her own.
This isn't racism while people are wasting their time ranting about things like this been racist the true meaning of racism gets lost as people switch off. This isn't getting attacked in the street or on public transport been spat at called vile names. Not getting the job your over qualified for because of your skin. If you over hype an issue picking up every little thing the Message your trying to get out gets lost.
And people call us transgender people crazy and make us jump through all sorts of psychological hoops before we transition to be the other 50% of the population. No psycholical coycelling required for this though. Seems a bit of a double standard.
No one is batting an eye at Sammy Sosa or Michael Jackson for going white. I hate double standards...
These are possibly the weirdest, which I mean a positive way, tattoos I have ever seen. Super unique and cool, also she is a very striking young lady. I say good for her for doing what she feels expresses herself...she looks awesome !
I think this is a sign this woman needs help, seriously. She OBVIOUSLY has self-image issues. Lets face it, this is FAR from normal. This is a cry from a woman who is very unhappy with who she was or is when this began. Either that or she suffers very badly from obsessive/compulsive disorder and just can't stop. I don't think it has anything to do with race or racism, I think it has to do with what or whom she believes herself to be or not be. If this were my family member or good friend, I would be HIGHLY suggesting counseling. The big problem is, should she ever decide she doesn't want this, it will be one of the biggest nightmares ever seen with removing tattoos.
Her eyes look a bit sad, would love to see her smile and to had met her before her transformation, or at least a then and now picture comparison.
What the FUUUUUUCK????? So that means Whites can only use white ink, Blacks use black ink...????? Guys what else? Maybe start to accuse Whites of giving birth to a white children
Someone didn't notice that no one was really calling her racist.
