Commenter Makes A Fool Of Himself By Mistaking This Teacher’s Initiative To Provide Tampons To School Girls With Contraception

Bart Simpson once said what is probably one of the greatest quotes of the 21st century – “I will use Google before asking dumb questions.” A quote that should probably be fixed at the legislative level in all countries – and then it will help to avoid many scandals and problems.

But so far, unfortunately, there are still many people who have access to social networks, but who, obviously, are banned for life on Google in order to clarify the meaning of a word in just a few clicks. By a strange coincidence, such people usually come up with homophobic, misogynistic or simply overly puritanical comments, embarrassing the entire Internet for ignorance of elementary things.

Want a fresh example? Voila! Here’s one from Reddit’s r/insanepeoplefacebook community, whose post gained nearly 13.3K upvotes and over 500 various comments. So, recently the official CNN Instagram account broke the news about Kylie DeFrance, a Texas high school teacher who had the noble idea of creating a kind of “menstrual station” in her school where students could take tampons or pads during their periods.

More info: Reddit

The school teacher came up with an idea to build a “menstrual station” for students

Someone just mistakenly confused tampons with contraceptives and accused the teacher of promoting birth control among minors

Great initiative, isn’t it? Of course, but not for the aggressive commenter, who first illustrated the news with some clown emoji, and then explained what exactly they had in mind. It would be better if they hadn’t, of course, but nevertheless…

So, this person, apparently confusing tampons with contraceptives, was indignant that the teacher, instead of doing her direct duties of teaching children, was starting to promote birth control among minors.

When netizens tried to point out their mistake, the commenter reacted quite aggressively

Moreover, when they tried to explain to this outrageous commenter (yes, in approximately the same aggressive way) that they simply mixed up the terms, instead of thanking them for the clarification, they just attacked their opponent, calling them a groomer.

It remains to be hoped that all this is just an example of unsuccessful Internet trolling, and not to believe that at the beginning of the third decade of the 21st century, in one of the most developed countries in the world, people with such a puritanical way of thinking still remain.

People in the comments claimed that in the 21st century sanitary products have to be easily accessible to everyone

By the way, people also spoke about this in the comments to the post on Reddit, stating that in the modern era, issues related to women’s health and periods should not be scandalous, but something taken for granted. Well, these products, of course, just have to be easily accessible to everyone who needs it.

And, for sure, commenters are also surprised that today, when search engines are absolutely accessible, people continue to confuse tampons with contraceptives. However, as a topic starter on Reddit wittily replied, according to that aggressive Instagram commenter, a person who knows what a tampon is should obviously be placed on the FBI watchlist.

We’re sure you’ve got something to say about this too, so feel free to write your own comment or tell any similar story. After all, as we suppose, it is really worth commenting.

As a kid, a teacher wouldn't let me take my purse to the bathroom and at first I was too ashamed to just grab a tampon out and go. About 5 months in I lost my sh*t and dumped out every pad and tampon I had on his desk. He was very surprised and asked me why I put contraceptive sponges on his desk and asked if I was trying to proposition him. Ugh. I had no idea what "sponges" were (this was in the 2000s too) but I did scream talk at him about how periods work until he shut up. Then I took my purse and went to the bathroom. Every time. Every month. And he shut the f*ck up. No one in class laughed either. They just ignored the whole thing. Like it was normal for a girl to have a period! The shame! Lol

Yes absolutely. I have been naked since I was born in random family functions without being sexualised. Nudity is normal, naked body isn't sexual. I don't really understand maybe it's so many perverts growing up because they have Been taught to be afraid of other people and their perverted thoughts and so you need to cover up in case adults cannot control themselves. I have seen so many penises and vaginas and breasts in my life that I don't react, never comment on other people body parts. There's nothing that turns me on about human anatomy and biology. But I suppose people also have been taught to be sexually too open to everyone. I can't have sex with strangers or random people, even if dating. I need to have connection, something deeper than great body. I'm 32 and I haven't had one night stand, I lived with my partner half year together, sleeping naked together, we had first sexual encounter with each other after six months. Never sleep with anyone who wouldn't support consequence

"Free" menstrual products, versus the costs of the clothing that would have to be thrown out every month... *Should* be a no brainer... A private girl's school in the City I live in collects menstrual products for distribution to low income and homeless women.

It's not usually a problem at the grades I teach, but my husband had slightly older and he just left a box of supplies by the door anyone could grab on the way out. Leaving things in the bathroom was wasteful because we are an elementary school and 1st graders have little sense of other people's needs.

Groomer is a word a lot of the younger people use at will. I was called a groomer because I defended a celebrity who was dating a younger woman, I think a 12 year difference. So I was called a groomer by two different persons, even though the celebrity and the girlfriend are both adults? So stupid.

Honestly what needs to stop happening is blocking out their names. Every time one of these jerks who doesn't know what the hell they're talking about makes a comment on social media...we need to let that stand and force them to receive the shitstorm of comments they deserves to be flooded their way. It's not like he did this privately; he posted this publicly on social media so why are we protecting him??? These people need to start being called out for their behavior and stupidity. They should be getting so many comments that they never, ever, ever want to post something like this again. It's the only way to stop them. You aren't going to change them but we can at least make it so miserable for them to do it that they stop this aspect of it.

"I want to provide them with what they need, whether that be a pencil or a tampon", she said. With Texas' recent abortion laws, and all its citizens deputized to turn in women they suspect of abortion, the problem just might be the pencil. Why else would she need a pencil? HTH can anyone A. Graduate high School; B. Obtaina four year college degree; and C. obtain any states' license to teach our children and conflate mestruation needs with contraception?!!!! Most certainly tells to a lack of parenting, quality education and real world experience on part of some teachers. I am male and grew up extremely naive regaring this subject to the point I was in Jr. HS before I knew what a "kotex" was.(Vernacular for tampon where I grew up in 60s & 70s ) But even then I didn't coflate it with contraception. Then ther is a commentor here who said they wonder how a baby be born with tampon in place..Damn maybe stupid people go through life happier beacause they do not know they are stupid!

There have been free contraception campaigns here in Finland that are targeted at teens and young adults like the Kesäkumi (Summer Rubber) campaign. Of course there have been some pearl clutcers who think it pressures kids to have s3x, but they've been shown to drop the amount of teen pregnancies and cases of deceases like Chlamydia. Not only is the guy a total moron for not knowing what pads and tampons are, but even if the teacher had set up a free condom stand for those who get hit by horny hormones, the criticism would have been off base.

This a great idea. My school has 75% of its students on free and reduced lunch and this would be a godsend for this population. The station would be private because the location is in the girls restroom. As far as free contraceptives go and why they should also be free, it is much cheaper to provide free contraceptives than have people raise an untimely or unwanted baby.

But the right, backed by the "Supreme Court" ultimately thinks that sex outside of " traditional " marriage is a sin and that any woman who would do such a thing " deserves " to be punished for the rest of her life by being forced to carry and raise a child she does not want and cannot support. She should also do this without any support from the dad because he was just one of those " boys being boys " after all and certainly NO government support or assistance because that would be " communism "!!

When I was at boarding school because I was classed by my peers as practical it was me that was asked by many of my year mates to collect pads (Bunnies) on their behalf. The Matron got wise and accepted that this went on and just put the girls name down. But it proves the point that this is not discussed practically/realistically by parents, there are unfortunately quite a number of uneducated children out there and that this sort of thing needs to be implemented.

Please also look into alternative period products that can reduce waste and reduce the cost each month. Period cups, leakproof undies, washable cotton pads, washable cotton tampons. Make your own research to see what could work best for you. I can't even descibe how much better I feel after I made the switch to leakproof undies and organic cotton pads. I feel more comfortable with my period, and healthier too as there are no checmicals in those products. Washing is also super simple on cold setting in the washing machine.

The internet has allowed the village, county, state or country idiot the opportunity to expose their stupidity to the whole world. We used to manage them and keep them under control (give them a slinky to play with or a bowl of silly putty) but now they’ve got a global voice, they are aware of that fact and they’ll damn well use it to shout about anything and everything.

I wish I knew where these people were, I would love to dump a while bunch of tampons, pads, menstrual cups, disks, sponges, anything period related on their fron porch. I would even put red dye on some for good measure, and maybe some vagina, vulva, and uterus diagrams and models. Really freak them out with what our amazing bodies natural do!!! A girl can only dream......

Groomer is a word a lot of the younger people use at will. I was called a groomer because I defended a celebrity who was dating a younger woman, I think a 12 year difference. So I was called a groomer by two different persons, even though the celebrity and the girlfriend are both adults? So stupid.

It's sad that people misuse that term and Pedophile. Those are very serious terms and should be used appropriately.

"Mistakenly confuses" implies the person knew the difference. They didn't. But I guess they can't say, "Moron doesn't know the difference between tampons and condoms".

"I want to provide them with what they need, whether that be a pencil or a tampon", she said. With Texas' recent abortion laws, and all its citizens deputized to turn in women they suspect of abortion, the problem just might be the pencil. Why else would she need a pencil? Land of the free, home of the brave.

And what IF they'd also make contraceptives available to teenagers? Wouldn't that be preferable to unwanted teenage pregnancies?

I once had an extended stay at the house of a family with two preteen girls. Their dad demanded that the older one (12) should wear a training bra at all times so he didn't accidentally see her topless. I was horrified!

I agree with your message around reducing waste and cost, but organic cotton pads, tampons, period panties and cups all contain chemicals, because everything is a chemical - water is a chemical

Don’t be embarrassed Texas, we’ve all got our own version skulking around in the undergrowth, you are not alone.

The punishment for stupidity is self-executing. In this teacher's case, he is unlikely to find a woman willing to aid in reproduction, so he is likely an evolutionary dead-end.
