I'm a graphic designer and illustrator. I started my comic blog Tall N Curly back in 2012 to share my tall girl problems. Do you remember my previously posted funny comics about "25 Problems I Face When Being A Tall And Curly-Haired Girl" here on Bored Panda?
I wanted to create some space in my life for something creative that had nothing to do with my work. By doing so, I realized I was telling the everyday problems of so many other women. Women, who, just like me, want and need to be reminded that it's OK, fun and even special to be different and to own who they are.
Since I started my webcomic series, I've had the opportunity to talk with so many amazing women who shared their girl problems with me. Whether they're tall, short, skinny, curvy, their stories about living their life and not being able to fit any mold inspire my cute drawings every day.
Thanks to them, I never lack inspiration or have to try hard making these relatable comics... There's always something new to tell!

I have the same issue with the pants length. The size that fits me is too short, what's longer is too big. Thankfully they started making different types of cuts and fits and you can have petite, normal or long cut to match your leg length and your hips.
I never understood why women's pants come in "sizes". Men's pants have two measurements, waist and inseam, so a short fat guy can get pants that fit and tall skinny guys can also get pants that fit. Why can't women's pants do the same?
We've been wondering the same for about a century or three. Mainly because the fashion industry is predicated on and thrives on demeaning, dividing and just plain ole dismissing the women they cater for. I grew up in a toxic "suffer for beauty" society and by the looks of our plucked, fillered and always photoshopped youths today, the suffer for beauty thing is still going strong. TL;DR: being a girl is complicated.
Load More Replies...yup. Totally. When we find a brand that accepts that tall chicks can also be slim... HEAVEN!!! On a side note: I have a fabulous Japanese friend, who will wear my tops as mini-dresses, and my long skirts as strapless dresses. Happens regularly. And she totally rocks them!
Exact opposite reasons (super short, petite but with giant boobies) but SAAAAAAAAAMMMME issues
I'm the tall skinny chick. A good friend is the super short, petite, with giant boobies chick... and her struggles are just as bad. I may not have your experience, but I have seen the fashion-hell my friend goes through... so I totally hear you!!
Load More Replies...Jeans are a struggle for a lot of women. If you have any curves whatsoever you have to go up a size and then have to deal with it not fitting in some areas. At least with tall people they have a tall length for jeans
You can stitch a 3" length of elastic inside the waistband on either side to close the gap. It's pretty easy to do. There are videos online. If you are more talented at sewing, you could buy jeans that are about 4" too long. After hemming the legs, use the remnants to re-tailor the waistband so that it fits your curves. I have no talent, so I expect my clothes to fit me, which makes for many fruitless hunts for clothing.
Load More Replies...I mean, the tank top does look cute on her :D. She could think of it as a summer crop top! The jacket would be cute as a shrug, too.
Exactly what I was going to say! I can't shop anywhere else!
Load More Replies...Short ladies dont fit either, we either learn to hem or wear out the cuffs on our pants, and capris can look like we are wearing high water pants
And im not that short, either, average, but shorter legs longer torso
Load More Replies...Try being fat and tall. I'm build like a linebacker, but fashion designers seem to think all tall women are lanky.
fashion designers hate any woman who isn't super skinny
Load More Replies...Help lolll where can I find size 12 and 36 inch inseam pants. Longtallsally is closed in Toronto. Where else can i find fashion jeans or dress pants to fit me. Or should just chop off my legs 🦵.
Yep! .. Don’t get me started on swimsuits and gowns! 🙆🏼♀️Or robes , or stockings!!! Yikes
Long-sleeved blouses that actually FIT are impossible to find. I have to settle for 3/4 length sleeves and forget about blazers or jackets with long-enough sleeves.
Pants are dumb! I'm not tall, not even close. I'm 5'1 and wear "regular" length pants. That leaves no one anywhere to go, since the next length size up would still not encompass women over 5'10. Hip and length only, please!
Choosing shirts when you'd normally wear S or even XS but have a D cup: smaller size is too tight in the breast, bigger size fits in the breast but is ultra loose everywhere else...
Ask for fitted pants for capris, short coat for jacket, knee length skirt for short skirts, knee length dresses for loose t-shirt, and a dress for knee length dressess
It's not even a women issue. Somehow it becomes problematic for anyone 6' tall, even though this is pretty much standard height, at least in central and northern Europe. Sometimes I got the impression that only Germans get this right and all other clothes producers are firmly stuck in early 1900's, when an average person was 2-3" smaller than now.
I have a long torso, so I can relate to the ones about fitting shirts, blouses and "women's cut" t-shirts. The women's cut t-shirts are usually sized to a smaller frame. I have a large frame and the XL women's shirts end up being two sizes too small. Too narrow and too short. The best illustration that I have seen of a small frame vs a large frame is between Abigail Breslin and Jennifer Grey in the two versions of Dirty Dancing. Abigail has a larger frame than Jennifer and is well-proportioned for her height & weight. However, I would bet that Abigail has been pressured about her weight because her healthy weight is higher than Jennifer's due to her larger frame.
Ugh, my life. I keep my sewing skills up by deconstructing and reconfiguring my wardrobe. Adding length to sleeves and ripping hems down in pantlegs, adding ruffles to the bottom hems of shirts......
I'm 5 ft 7 (standing up) and wear dresses as tops (as I am 6ft 3 sitting down) I have a very long body and short legs. Greetings, fellow mutants
Don't forget the jumper...oooh, wait... yes... yes forget the jumper. So much painful camel toe!!!!
I'm 5ft 2" but have a 31 inch leg, tops all swamp me as I basically have no torso which was a huge problem when I was pregnant. Plus I can reach high shelves.
I have trouble shopping for clothes, too... shirts with anything on them, like just ATM are 20 bucks more than without!!! And even then, comes the sizes...
I'm tall (but curvy) and I can say I have a few pants that go past the ankles (for me, tall pants usually work). But I definitely have that dress problem. 90% of all dresses I see are much too short for me. So basically all dresses that fit are almost floor length.
Also, do (comfy and cute) pajama pants that cover all of my legs even exist? All my pajama pants are annoying because they're too short and often bunch up at my knees.
Load More Replies...I once changed skirts with a friend while out, girls do weird things like this sometimes, anyway, the skirt I was wearing had a split in the front so if I sat down it was too high, so as soon as I realised we swapped, when we came out of the bathroom I was asked why I hiked up my skirt, was I trying to be slutty (this was the 80's) I looked at the person, I looked at my 5" 4 friend, stood closer to her as a 5" 10 girl and asked if they remembered how short on me the skirt she was now wearing was before we changed, the split skirt was hanging down around her kneecaps. People really do not understand how height works in clothing.

People do love to point out the obvious, as if somehow you've missed it! I get that about my skin colour with comments like 'Wow, aren't you pale?!' AM I???? One of these days I'm going to tell someone I didn't know as I don't have a reflection.
I'm Native American. People give me looks if I mention this without the caveat of I KNOW my skin is PALE. I can't go to the beach without my (brown) family making snide remarks and jokes about how they're blinded. They all inherited a tan and I did not. I got sun poisoning every time I burn so I have to avoid sun exposure and now I am super pale.
Load More Replies...I would say as a general rule don't point out certain features of a person unless you are genuinely and clearly complimenting them. It just makes people feel self-concious.
Why make yourself smaller? If you're tall ... embrace it and be tall. The spooning problem also exists if both partners are of equal height.
Good point, embrace who you are, don't complain about it.
Load More Replies...Is being 5'9 short in y'all's opinion? I had my growth spurt late. But yes, I do have thick and curly hair that makes combing it like taming a lion.
Just did some reading up on this and here are the averages of a few countries (accepting that there will always be anomolies); for a woman raised in the United States the average height is currently 5ft 4in. In UK it is 5ft 3in, in India it is 5ft, in Belgium it's just over 5 ft 4in and the same for the Netherlands. Latvian women are tallest being on average 5 ft 5.7in. (so nearly 5ft 6in). Being 5 inches taller than most countries 'average' is pretty much going to be considered tall rather than short. I'm sure that some studies probably produce variations on these heights but I doubt that there is much difference overall.
Load More Replies...I'm a powerchair user I understand yourfrustration as I get a load of staring and inane "jokes" stupid questions etc. People are just rude or think they are the first person to ever say that joke ugh like "are you allowed to drink and wheel" its a powerchair not a car I'm allowed to drink like every other pedestrian! there with you.
I used to be tall. I was 5'11 and wore 5 inch heels sometimes. I can relate to all of these comics. Because of back problems and such, I have lost 3 inches and am now 5'8". I still feel kind of tall. My hubby is 5'10" and now he loves it when I stand next to him and he is the taller one. I miss my 3 inches even tho' it was a pain in the a*s at times and finding clothes to fit was next to impossible.
I've lost height due to my back problems as well. Painful and frustrating, isn't it? Was horrified the first time I was measured at the doctors and so really struggled to get as tall as possible the next time - made no difference.
Load More Replies...Most of these are over exaggerated or something that could easily be fixed by not being equally obnoxious about others height . If you want people to respect you, be respectful or ignore them it's better than walking around with a tall chip on your shoulder.
Same being too thin. Everyone must tell me the same 5 jokes, "Don't you eat?", "Do you carry a heavy rock in windy days?". OMG, guys, you are so original, I dont have mirrors in my home'! :D
When I was thin, a neighbor grilled me about my weight and when I told her (90# at the time) she insisted I must weigh even less. "You're lying," she kept saying - "You're lying." This was the same day I got out of the hospital after a 5-day stay (for a severe allergic reaction, not an eating disorder). I didn't have the strength for a snappy comeback.
Load More Replies...What is so much of this have to do around having a boyfriend who is shorter than you..... are you so shallow that you can’t live a life without a man in it??? If he’s too short for you then don’t date him. Don’t lead him on don’t build him up you wanna break his heart you callous c**t
no offense but I don't think you are in any bad problem there are people who have made comics on their dying dogs, serious mental and physical illnesses losing people I don't think this comic needed to be made.
Yep. And you quickly know which men are a******s and can't handle you being taller than them. So you can weed out thew a******s quick.
I'm 5'6", which is tall for where I live, but my torso is longer than my arms. In School the length of shorts had to be beyond the end of your fingertips to be accepted. My fingertips didn't reach past my underwear at the leg! And when jump suits were in style (onesies) I got left out because all of them turned into atomic wedgies.
These are wonderful- all completely on track. Super funny. Add shopping in the tall men's department, praying to find some efeminiate clothes.
Same for being short. I've even had men say "you're so f***ing short" like they're so perceptive. Only I cant reach the very top shelf of our cabinets without a step stool and I would get smacked in the face with backpacks walking down the hallway in high school during class changes. There is an upside tho, it's a lot easier to move through crowds. People see me pushing through and just move out the way like I'm a child trying to make my way to the front.
I once noticed that a tall and beautiful girl in the same group I was had learned -- knowingly on unknowingly -- to stand and sit in the way that it seemed she wasn't taller than others. It made me so sad. I've had some comments myself, and I'm not even that tall
I'm only somewhat above average for a girl and have also spend most of my life trying to look smaller. When seating I almost lay down on the sit so I'm not too tall. I have pretty bad posture even now because of it.
Load More Replies...I really enjoyed this even though I am really short. Some of the tall disses are just brilliant.
I love these ! I can relate to them all. Here’s another: being asked to retrieve something off a high shelf. Happens to me quite a bit in the grocery store!
Both of my daughters are approx. 6 ft. I am 5'3 1/2". When I am in the middle, I call them bookends!
It is funny, but I am not sure I am really getting this. I am a 185cm/6feet quite sninny man and I don't think I have ever got problems or any speciall excitement about girls taller or heavier than myself. Well... I've kind of think sometimes that must be nice to have a skinny tall (no problem if taller, but I hardly know any in real life) girlfriend but it just never happened and I have priorities other than phisical looks.
I think that in the image # 28, in which you put a boyfriend lower than you going down the street, you behave and ridicule him in the same way as those who judge you. You say that you do not want them to notice you and you worry about what they think about you, in that situation.
this kinda annoys me. Like isn't she just like 180 cm? Compared to a lot of people, that's not that tall. She always draws herself so much taller than everyone else but man I have at least three friends who are about 170 cm, and we're in MIDDLE SCHOOL. She's NOT THAT TALL.
Love this!! I’m so bored of people saying- you’re so tall! Then there’s no other comment like- it’s great, you’re fab! How annoying. It’s jusy bloody pointless!
LOVE IT! KEEP MAKING THEM Tall N Curly, wonderful job! As another tall woman I was just so freaking happy.
Why do people feel the need to be obnoxious jerks by asking smart a*s questions when they meet someone on the taller side? Why???
I LOVE these comics and can relate to all of them. I'm 6'. My boyfriend is 5'10" (which is my cut-off). The clothes... the mirrors... the showers... Yup, been there. How about creating a comic of a photo of you with your normal sized friends? I love my height, but when I see pictures of me and my friends, I feel like either an Amazon, or I'm surrounded by children. ha! Or how about a comic of being mistaken for a man? Has that happened?? I'm very obviously a woman (features, hair, feminine body), but NUMEROUS times over the years (especially in winter with big coat and hair covered, I've had people initially mistake me for a dude. "May I help you, sir?" in Home Depot, for example. Then I turn around to see their mortified face. ugh. And why do cute shoes tend to stop at size 10!?!? Criticisms: 1) I think you are making a bigger problem out of a smaller one. 2) Using the same drawing, several times in a row, just changing the speech bubble, doesn't make for an interesting read, it also highlights and makes the next criticism more apparant: 3) You only have one joke, a whole comic series dedicated to one joke gets old, fast, which is a problem when: 4) This isn't very funny. Relatable humour is a difficult thing to make funny, and I have to say here it fails, in every way. Pros: The art's pretty good, although a little crude in places.
While not a girl I can still relate to almost everything on this list. Being 6'9" I can't even count how many times I get have my height pointed out to me every day.
*sigh* this has been my life summed up so perfectly. Being 6 foot tall is no easy feat

On the good sides though... In the 80's never got asked for ID to go into clubs or pubs when underage because TALL! Get asked by people in supermarkets if I can reach something for them, which I am always happy to do, because it would really suck to not be able to especially for the elderly. I have become very good at picking things up with my toes and bringing them up to my hand, who wants to bend down that low to grab the lid to a pen :P
Lol omg I'm 5'11" HATE bending down to get stuff! But maybe I'm lazy lol.
Load More Replies...I'm 177cm, not really tall, and still have problems finding clothes especially pants.
I'm exactly the same height as you, and it never comes up in conversation or anything. Am I missing something??
Ok, I like this because I can share my experience. My friend, or more so: SUPER MEGA BEST FRIEND FOR LIFE is only 4'9? I think... And i'm 5'3 or 4, and every single time, I swear. I have to get the cookies for her.
So, from the looks of your comments, Turd and Ruin here is the tiny guy without chin?

Load More Replies...Sounds like all the mouthy little people with the 'smart' cracks shouldn't be so hung up on height, Bill.
Load More Replies...the problem with height is that your either too short or too tall. People rarely have the perfect height. why does Mother Nature do this to us.
