30 Funny Pics Of Filipinos Dressed Up In ‘Unsuitable’ Donated Clothes At A Volcano Evacuation Center
The erupting Taal volcano on the main island of the Philippines has caused indescribable chaos, with almost half a million people ordered to evacuate the surrounding area. Since tons of ash from the volcano destroyed houses and infrastructure, killing crops and livestock that residents depended on, thousands of people, soon to become hundreds of thousands, have been forced into evacuation centers that are struggling to provide basic necessities.
Although the situation looks bleak at the makeshift shelters where evacuees are staying, people are striving to pass the time and make each other smile by dressing up in the strangest clothes they’ve received as donations. In the rush to get supplies to victims of the disaster, people have been tossing everything from party dresses to work uniforms into donation boxes.
While not all of these stranger donated items will go far to help people get back on their feet, they’re at least providing a bit of entertainment to the people stuck in the shelters.

Organizations assisting the evacuation are not pleased with the clothing selection at evacuation centers, according to local news. The Citizens’ Disaster Response Center urged people to “treat the survivors with dignity” by donating clothes that could still be used. While the statement could have been in response to the pictures arising from the evacuation centers, they added that many of the donated articles of clothing were torn or otherwise unusable.
What is a volcano survivor going to do with that? Swim to the nearest island for help??
Lols.. We Filipinos always look at the brighter side. Every year we always face typhoons, flooding, earth quake or volcano eruptions etc. But one thing were always been proud of, We always find Hope and Happiness in every situation which motivate us to stand up and start again no matter how bad the situation is. Life goes go on.. might as well do it with smile =)
While the Philippine Institute Of Volcanology say they will lower alerts if the volcano has calmed down within a two-week observation period following the ash eruptions that began on January 12, they’re not confident that this is the end. Volcanologists say they have observed magma close to the surface of the volcano, meaning that a more violent eruption could still be on the way and it’s not yet time to start trying to salvage the ash-covered settlements that residents left behind.
that is actually a lovely blouse. Maybe not quite his style, but still...
Double sleeping bags for people who kick in their sleep and double bedspread?
It's disturbing that there are people out there in need of such a large pair of pants and t-shirt.
Size 5x next to a person who wears small. Filipino people are small compared to Americans.
Ah so that is were troom troom gets the idea we can fit in one side a pant leg and not get stuck
Some diet supplement company will pay good money for these for one of their bogus 'before and after' ads.
I'm worried by the fact that there is someone who actually fit these
You could make a few outfits out of that for several people. Your gonna need some sewing skills for that.
They do care, and they are getting on with it.

And i am sure they are aware that the likelihood of someone being as big as they were in a disaster zone is going to be unlikely but their heart has been in a good place. Besides all textiles can be repurposed, the larger trousers could be split to make 2 skirts if someone has the know how. The people at the centre are having fun and keeping. Their sports up in dramtic situation
If you've ever shopped for clothes at your local charity shop or thrift store, you'll understand completely. Imagine the contents of an entire goodwill clothing department were deposited at an evacuation center. All the popular sizes would be gone immediately, and all that's left would be enormous, impossibly tiny, particularly formal, or oddly specific. I'm glad they were able to have fun with it in the middle of an evacuation. :)
For instance, at my local store, there may be one or two pairs of pants that fit my 34" waist, but plenty to choose from in the sub-29" and plus-40" sizes. Unless I want to wear something 'unique' haha.

This is quibbling, but to me, saying that a particular group of people are resilient is almost demeaning. When someone says that, it sounds like they are surprised that a people have the same survival instinct as themselves.... I dunno. Probably just reading into it too much.

However, when you are depending upon donations, you really do not have much if any say so in what is given. I would be grateful just to have something to wear, I would not have the arrogance to complain. This can be seen in quite a few of the photos, they are trying to have a bit of fun with the situation.
Why would People Who have lost everything should je given unwearable clothes Just because they are"beggers". They asked for nothing, it's internationale help given out.

And it's rude to laugh at clothing for obese people. Are there no obese people in the Philippines? (Answer: yes, there are.) Also the bathrobe - what's wrong with that? There's not some girl there who doesn't wAnt to wrap up in a towel after showering?
Actually, @Country Nana, there's only a tiny, minuscule percentage of people in Philippines who are THAT obese that can fit into those big clothes seen here. And most of those severely obese live in the bigger cities where disposable incomes and McDonald's exist. But this place where the volcano erupted is a fishing and farming village. Everyone gets to spend all the rice calories they consume in a day's work, or walking to school. It's a typical provincial city where there are hardly any obese person.

well....at least they got to have a little fun during such a horrific time. i hope the donations get better though.
Now I want pictures of the dump sites in Manila and slums. And prisons.
At least they are having some fun with it in spite of the hardship they are dealing with.
It's like they had a shipping container of donated clothes that they've been moving from disaster to disaster, and this is the last stop on its journey.
The pictures in this segment were chosen specifically for the subject matter. I highly doubt the clothes being modeled by our gleeful friends from the Philippines represent the bulk of donations available.

Personally i gave clothes i actually used. But then on Tv we saw people who would tear up the bags, choose what they considered good and throw away the rest in such a disrespectful way. The least they could do was to take what they needed and pack the rest so someone else could take it. What I saw in this post also made me sad. There were some good dresses and shirts and pants that someone else could use instead of the men in the pics. I also like to think that the people who donated the large size clothes thought that maybe there would be someone of that size who would need clothes in times like these. Making fun of the donations makes me so angry
@Lolo Caty, that's sad, though, seeing other people disrespecting the boxes of donations. But please check the internet first if the same thing happened in the Philippines. That's an evacuation center where everyone in the community takes temporary shelter during the volcanic eruption. If you've encountered any FIlipino, you'd know how much value is placed culturally in the sense of camaraderie in the community. Therefore, trashing donations would be an embarrassing act for them especially in an evacuation center. The province is a typical countryside community where people are typically fit and trim, spend hours of a typical day's work in the farm or sea, and where children are so much more physically active than big city kids. You must also understand that most of these people have only seen extremely obese people from TV and not in real life. Therefore seeing extremely large clothes is quite a bit amusingly strange. Chill at the fact that Filipinos are actually a grateful culture.

See that's my point. The clothes from this post could have just as easily ended up with yall. Clothes get donated to red cross and other places like that and they get dispersed where needed. If you donate clothes you never know where they might go.

I don't think they are being disrispectful, but just trying to have some fun while in a ver bad situation. And as far as I know, unwanted clothes are the ones that are fu beyind any repairs or a hralth hazzard (moldy old clothes) so im fair to tell you your donations won't be wasted. Good on you and your family to donate.
Load More Replies...No, they surely would rather have clothing than none. They are being silly. There are surely normal clothes as well.
