30 Photos That Show The Terrifying Power Of The Taal Volcano Which Just Erupted In The Philippines
As Australia is being devastated by uncontrollable bushfires, the Philippines was just hit by another natural disaster. Taal Volcano located on the big island of Luzon erupted January 12, 2020, reportedly sending ash and steam up to 6-9 miles into the sky. With the alert level of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) escalating from Alert Level 2 to Alert Level 4, it is now believed that "a hazardous explosive eruption is possible within hours to days."
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology ordered an evacuation in the towns of Balete, San Nicolas and Talisay in Batangas and other towns within the shores of Taal Lake. As people watched in awe and terror, some managed to snap pictures of the erupting volcano. The images show the smoke and ash rising from the mouth of Taal, reaching high up in the sky. Due to this, the Manila International Airport Authority was forced to suspend all flights to and from all terminals of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Unfortunately, numbers aren't stacked in the residents' favor as a more severe explosive eruption seems to be just moments away and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs issued a situation report stating that an estimated number of 459,300 people are within the 14 km danger zone.

This is a stunningly beautiful and fascinating photo, awe-inspiring and light-hearted at the same time. Well done!

A devil face was seen in the smoke from the Australian bushfires, now this. It does make one wonder.
That ain't MY Momma, unless she been drinkin' again and is pissed off about something. Oh, wait, that IS my Momma. I better get outta here! You didn't see me, K?

Load More Replies...I remember a myth I heard when I was growing up... According to Filipino myths and legends, Bathala, the creator of everything resides in the sky. He looks over mankind. When his people follow his rules, he is pleased and gives them everything they need. But this powerful deity can also be cruel sometimes, sending lightning and thunder to those who sin against him. Bathala had a son Apolaki who is the sun god. Blackened teeth were considered the standard of beauty. Apolaki becomes disappointed and scolds the people for welcoming “foreigners with white teeth.” When he is upset, and reach a boiling point, he sends out fire from Taal Volcano to punish the people.

Load More Replies...Oh, yuck, that pic is NOWHERE that hideous. EEEEWWW.
Load More Replies...The pic seems taken from the skies... The aerosols can damage the plane's structural integrity, especially the engine, and potentially down it.
If only even a small fraction of the energy released tould be harvested!
A nope-cloud, just like the many similar-looking ones we have seen in photos of the horrendous bushfires in Australia.
And life goes on, oblivious to the power of the planet we live on and the skies above us.
Looks like it blasted its dome off, though it’s probably just smoke and ash clouds.
"Here's a picture of one of the wildest things in nature - but mainly look at me"
Wonder how deep in the earth the particles that make that color come from.
And to think according to them, it is only just clearing its throat. It has yet to actually "blow". Scary thought.
Another picture that looks like it blasted its dome off (like Mt St Helens—-look at before and after pics)

I know this is a disaster, I feel sorry for the people and I'm glad I'm not there. But.....some of these photos are awesomely beautiful.
so i was at home when it errupted. my bf came home that night saying most stores closed earlier because of ash fall. we are 5-6 hours away from that place. though we are not very affected, it still is scary knowing i was there just a couple of years back.
Such mind-boggling power, such terrifying beauty. Only one thing to do - FLEE.

It's a sight to behold. Nature's wrath at it's most beautiful and terrifying at the same time
I am not surprised by this natural disaster, the Bible enumerated so many. It is very scary but I am ready to face each one. Thank you for the amazing photos!

Friction, basically. Mostly friction, plus heat---well, friction CAUSING heat. It causes particles to shed or gain electrical charge, and when you're throwing out as much material into the air as a volcano, that's a LOT of electrical charge being bounced around, so you get lightning. Really, really awesome, colourful, scary-as-s**t lightning. :-)
Load More Replies...Correction: the bush fires in Australia were NOT natural disasters. They were intentionally set by about 200 people.
