After 10 Years Of Slowly Dying, I Finally Found The Cause, And Now I See Abstract Art Whenever I Close My Eyes

Ten years. Ten years of very slowly dying from a number of autoimmune issues, something that doctors couldn’t put their finger on. Finally, in 2011, I found my health by uncovering the culprit for my unexplained issues (gluten, for those who are curious).

When that happened, and I started healing, my brain sort of re-wired. I’d close my eyes in the shower, and I’d see abstract art. I’d go to bed at night, and I’d see unique art before me. I’d laugh hard, and I’d see abstract art. And all of that, when completely sober! My husband insisted it’s just me, healing, but I felt like it was someone programming my mind.

Fast forward to a few months later, and I fell in love with the style of “pop art vintage collage” in 2011 — an art medium brand new at the time, making the rounds online. I started making these photo collages inspired by vintage art immediately as if it was a primal need of mine. I’d wake up in the morning, and I’d have this need to make a collage out of some vintage photos mixed with new ideas. Never before in my 39 years of life thus far, I felt that way, but I cherish that feeling every day now.

Art flourished late for me, it was almost on a “paused” mode, it seems, but it finally did arrive when I was ready for it.

I find it tacky but in a good way ! Like a Tarantino movie could be, or some 70's wallpaper. I don't know if I'm really clear :)) But I like it !

Your work is amazing and what a cool gift you've discovered! I have a similar gluten experience (sans artistic revelations...helas :-))...about 7 years of undiagnosable auto-immune 'issues' that all resolved just by cutting gluten out of my life.

I love these! If this is how you heal, I think it's a pretty great process. I'm glad you found out what was causing your ailments. ;)

If the collage work is the kind of thing you see in your dreams, you don't mean abstract art, it's Surrealism.

Yes, this is surrealism. Abstractness is what I saw during the brain programming, not what art I eventually created.

lovely exciting pieces. It looks more like conceptual art to me, where you juxtapose clear images in an original manner. Love them so much. Especially the ones about women.

Badly cut but all of them put together is very endearing.... I am product of the late 80s but I have old magazines from 60s and 70s so this reminds me a lot of childhood and just makes me nostalgic in general... NICE!!!

"Fast forward to a few months later, and I fell in love with the style of “pop vintage collage” in 2011 — a style brand new at the time, making the rounds online" i really like the artwork but it is not a style brand new at the time. winston smith (no, not the character from orwell's "1984") has been doing it for decades as have others. look him up.

The hostility in the Facebooks comments is bewildering. The level of hate says so much about the posters. I find this art extraordinary. The way that the artist has taken banal advertising of years gone by, and manipulated it into something stunning is worthy or recognition. When will this exhibition be traveling to Australia? I so want to see the works in person and not just a computer screen.

small quibble, that's not abstract art, if it's something like what you see when you dream what you mean is Surrealism. Abstract would be without figurative form, think Mark Rothko.
