Meet The “Queen Of The Dark” Who Was Told To Bleach Her Incredibly Dark Skin By Uber Driver
8.7Mviews
Meet Nyakim Gatwech, the South Sudanese descent African American model who’s teaching people not to be afraid of the dark. With her deeply pigmented skin and fierce determination, the dark skin model is breaking down the barriers of conventional beauty and encouraging others to do the same.
The 24-year-old African model and fashion icon, who now lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has no shame about her melanin, and she makes sure the world is aware. “My chocolate is elegant. So is what I represent… A nation of warriors,” she captioned one of her many Instagram photos, which routinely exceed 10 thousand likes each. In another, she details an experience in which an Uber driver suggested she try ‘bleaching’ her skin – and her only response was laughter. “You won’t believe the kind of questions I get and the kind of looks I get for having this skin.”
Gatwech is not only an advocate for diversity in the fashion industry but also a voice for Black rights around the world. She’s even been dubbed “Queen of Darkness,” a title she happily accepts. “Black is bold, black is beautiful, black is gold… Don’t let American standards damage your African soul.” Love the skin you live in, no matter what color or shade it may be!

24-year-old Nyakim Gatwech is making waves in the fashion industry with her sumptuously dark skin
Before the South Sudanese model found success, though, her unique beauty wasn’t celebrated by all
In 2016, an Uber driver suggested she bleach her skin, implying that her deep complexion was nothing to love
She simply responded with laughter, and has fully embraced her striking appearance ever since
“My chocolate is elegant. So is what I represent… A nation of warriors,” she captioned an Instagram photo
Now living in Minneapolis, Nyakim is a voice of encouragement for the Black community
“You are beyond beautiful and the love I have for you is unconditional because you are me,” she wrote
“Let’s show the world how beautiful and intelligent we are apart from just being dark skinned”
The burgeoning fashion icon has now gone viral, with over 100 thousand followers on Instagram
Though she still receives discouraging messages now and then, she refuses to give up her radiant self-love
She has even been dubbed the “Queen of the Dark,” a title she happily accepts
“My skin absorbs the suns rays and my hair defies gravity. Now you can’t tell me I’m not magical!”

It´s incredible how dark her skin is. It´s like she´s been dipped in velvety charcoal dust. Ahhhhh its so beautiful!!
Skin color is what makes the world amazing. It shows how different we all really are and how we are exactly the same.
Except for bone structure
If I had a million tongues I say Nubian chocolate queen

her skin color is beautiful, but for god's sake, stop saying we are "exactly the same", because we are absolutely not. Differences are beautiful, her skin is beautiful.
We all mixes and remixes of the same human beings. How are we different?

edited pics she is not this dark. a picture of her and a parent is online in the sun. she is not this dark. no one is this dark
'If you've never seen a black swan, does that mean black swans do not exist?' Nice little philosophical question for ya there
You obviously don't have any african friends.
Because there's no way the picture in the Sun could be edited.
It's far more likely her professional shots are edited than a casual snap of her and her mum. Even in some of the photos here she's different shades. And she does refer to herself as chocolate. Chocolate is usually more brown than black. Whatever colour she is, she looks stunning.
She looks like a godess!!
I agree.. I am Hindu and since I have seen her I have been obsessed with seeing her portray our Goddess Maha Kali Devi in a movie or photoshoot.
She could totally be Kali! I was thinking this lady looks like a creature from another world, a superhero, a mystical creature.
Kali is a Goddess I've always liked!
She isn't allowed to...that would be cultural appropriation.
I was thinking super heroine, but goddess will do. :-)
Definitely. Wow.
How anyone can say anything negative about her, I just do not know. She is stunning and her skin is flawless.
How can anyone use his/her breath to be mean to people to begin with, just like that, for no reason? I don't know... even if i was talking to Quasimodo himself what would be the point in hurting his feelings if he did nothing to hurt mine? Plus, you're right, she is trully beautiful.
The internet is 1000 times worse. My kid made a post about something and thankfully there was a moderator because they are ruthless.
I know how they can, the same way these idiots have brought back this team light skin verses dark skin BS & hearing these young rappers have the audacity to say they dont date dark women or (ie darkbutts) interesting enough women that resemble the woman they come from. She is indeed B-E-A-U-T-I-ful, I am going to pass this on and wish her and women like her much success.
You are beautiful, Zenozenobee.
Exactly, she is sultry, really gorgeous. And even if suggesting bleaching her skin was not something incredibly racist and unacceptable, it would be very stupid, especially for someone who works in an industry like fashion, where every trait that makes your beauty extraordinary and unique is really precious. It is not only her skin color that makes her beautiful of course - I mean, look at that hot body and perfect face - but it is what makes her truly stand out among other beautiful models and I do not know how that would be undesirable.
She is a beautiful woman but her skin is not flawless. Still doesn't take away from her beauty.
who tf cares what an Uber driver says, so why does that even come up as an issue? There are idiots everywhere, making fun of everyone and everything. Everyone has had things said to them at some point. Hasn't someone said something bad about you? Yeah, it's not race, it's idiots. And they're everywhere. Gotta take this stuff with a grain of salt.
Jealously and inferiority complex! It's a sickness that's spreading! Especially with trump in office and even the police are not hiding their fear that blacks may be better and smarter or equal to them!

The supposed comment is clickbait. Research the veracity. I recommend an increased level of skepticism when consuming media these days, especially when it comes to the favorite pastime of stoking animosity between ethnicities and genders.

The article would not have received half as many views without the obligatory man shaming. It's what gets half the viewers here.
What are you even taking about?
